English Pronunciation in Use: Elementary is a comprehensive reference and practice book for learners of English and can be used by individual learners working alone, or in class. There are 50 easy-to use units with key pronunciation points presented on the left-hand page with a range of exercises on the facing right-hand page. All units are supported with audio material which is available in cassette or CD format. The audio material uses a clear model of a standard British accent for presentation and repetition exercises. In receptive exercises different accents used to give learners the opportunity to listen to a range of English accents. There is also a useful reference section. The elementary level will focus on those areas of pronunciation relevant to elementary level learners (e.g. differentiation of sound pairs and pronunciation for listening). Great for individual practice and\or in class
I love this book because it has not only explanations and audio CDs, but also a lot of exercises for extra practice(e.g. grouping together words with the same vowel sound or finding the odd one out).

とても分かりやすく体系だっている
前半は発音記号ごとの解説で、似た発音のペアを見開きで紹介して口の形の違いを図入りで解説しており、どの発音とどの発音が似ているのか、同じ発音をするサンプルを単語やフレーズを紹介しており、体系的に学べて非常に良い。CDも5枚でほぼテキスト全ての文が録音されており、トラックも細かく分かれているので集中的に練習しやすい。後半は単語でなくフレーズになった時のイントネーションや強調の仕方、単語同士で発音の結合、長文の場合、など色々なパターンの例や練習問題がついており、この本のレベルは三段階のうちの初級ということだが、この内容をマスターすれば外国人の英語としては相当なレベルになれると思う。Self studyと書いてるだけあって一人で学習できるように記号やイラストなどふんだんに使って分かりやすく工夫されていると感じられる。ケンブリッジ大学が製作しているので解説も全て英語、平易な英語だが辞書引かずに読める程度の英語読解力がないと発音に集中出来ないかも知れない。その代わり英語圏の人が作製しているので、日本人がうっかりミスで作ってしまうような変な英文は絶対存在しないという安心感がある。

It says book and cds, but it was only cds.
I thought this was a book as well as the discs but they are good recordings.

English pronunciation opinion
Voy paso a paso pero el libro va cumpliendo mis objetivos. Hecho de menos la posibilidad de grabar mi pronunciación y compararla con la pronunciación del libro. Las explicaciones son claras y los CD están bastante bien al igual que los dibujos o esquemas con la posición de labios, boca, etc.

ottimo libro per studiare la fonetica inglese. correlato da libro si esercizi e 5 cd rom. molto utile. l ho utilizzato per preparare un esame universitario.
