The complete kit for a colourfully lit home
Normally smart lights can be problematic, As several components are needed to get them fully integrated into my home. This comprehensive kit includes everything i needed to get it set up within minutes. My kit included 2 smart bulbs that can be dimmed, Put on timers - and includes a wake up function, And best of all, Voice control. This set gave me a beautiful colour range, Allowing me to set to mood, Times and colours to my exact specifications. The kit also includes a hue button and bridge, Making it very convenient for me to access controls from anywhere. So far I'm very impressed with its performance.

A great piece of tech that needs to be tried!
These smart lights bulbs are fantastic, it's great to be able to change the mood of a room by customising the settings and to be able to set programmable times. Installation involves downloading the app, plugging in a few cables, and a few minutes adding the bulbs to the app - there's really not much to it! The only downside I found was that it seems to struggle with displaying shades of green, but it's hardly a deal breaker. A little tip that could save your bacon - get used to setting timers on your lights when you go on holiday or regularly go out in the evenings, it'll look like someone's home ;-)

Phillips Hue is a really good system but this starter pack is poor value for money
I’ve played with a number of different types of IoT devices (thermostats, sensors and LED display panels) but this is my first foray into lightbulbs. The Phillips Hue White and Colour lighting starter kit contains two colour bulbs, a switch and a Hue hub. The box contains everything you need and the contents was well packed to protect everything without using excessive packaging. The hub requires a mains electricity source and is connected to your network using an ethernet cable, and the bulbs in this kit are E27 screw fit. So you either need an E27 screw fit socket or you’ll need to change your fittings to match (legally this requires a qualified electrician). Phillips also sell kits with B22 bayonet cap bulbs as well so this shouldn’t be necessary. The bulbs are LED and are quoted as having a 1000h lifespan (three years if on for an hour every day) although I’ve read of Hue bulbs lasting much longer than that. I’m not going to describe the set-up as that seems a bit pointless (and may change). It is however is really straightforward and the hub will automatically find the bulbs provided that they are already turned on when you first power it up. Phillips provide a Hue app (iOS and Android) to control the bulbs and set up programmable schedules, and this can be used inside the house on your WiFI network or from anywhere in the world provided you have a connection to the internet and your home network is running. Hue supports voice control via Alexa and Google assistant (I had no problems getting this going) and home automation - Apple Homekit and SmartThings are supported as are other automation platforms. The Hue hub supports up to 50 devices and Phillips sell a range of bulbs and light fittings as well as switches, plugs and motion sensors. Plenty of room for expansion. The colour bulbs are fantastic and the smart button is great in that it can be programmed to control one or more lights as if it was a regular light switch. Personally my favourite feature beyond the obvious on/off/brightness is the home and away controls so you can make your house look occupied when away. As a starter set this is a little on the pricey side considering there’s a set with two white bulbs (and no switch) available at half the price. The colour LED bulbs are most definitely fantastic but at a price that makes it unlikely you will buy many of them. Phillips could really clean up in the smart lighting space but only if they work on reducing their prices or guaranteeing the bulbs for significantly longer than the 1000 hours stated on the box. I've removed one star because although these starter sets are really good, prices need to be lower.

Premium quality
First I can say that this Philips Hue is excellent stuff. E27 fitted my bedside lamp which I bought from B&M well. Setup is quite easy as clear instruction provided. Only tricky thing was for me that when I had to scan barcode on the bridge for some reason app couldn't accept it so I had to restart the app on phone few times to make it work. Then to control the lights is very easy either you can use the app on the phone (each light can control independently)or use dimmer switch (with it you can dim the lights turn them off and change the colours) of course you can still use these lights with the original on and off switch. Dimmer switch is very small also wireless and magnetic. App is very smart with loads of options such as routines,,Home and Away" you can set time when you coming back home or leaving,,Wake up time" to slowly turn lights on in the morning as well,,Go to sleep" which is my favourite because it dims the lights few hours before bedtime so it makes me to fall asleep a lot quicker. Obviously app have much more options for everyone use. Overall amazing product great quality would definitely recommend.

Leading brand with robustness and well supported - tested devices.
It did initially take a few times before the hub connected to the screw-in bulbs. Once connected everything worked as aspected via the app. Now I wanted the Phillips Hue to work with my Alex and Hive. This was a lot easier than the initial setup and I was pleased. Please note it also works with Google Assistant and Apple Home Kit. The are many controls in the Phillips Hue App and you can customise your lights to your liking. Its fun and the number of colours are almost endless. 16 million colours and shades of white. Wow, that's a lot. Everybody should have LED lights in their homes as its currently the most energy-efficient way of illuminating your home. And may I add brighter brightness than the old conventional light bulbs. Package includes: Smart Bulb 2x Pack LED [E27]. Hue Button + Bridge The great thing about this pack is that you receive the Hue Bridge. The Hue Bridge uses your Hue bulbs as stepping stones for its Zigbee network, allowing you to add more lights to even the furthest corners of your home. Adding a new device is easy - go to the settings icon - choose Light setup for example and then follow the "Add light" instructions. I love the Phillps Hue technology and will be expanding my home with a mixture of Hive and Phillips Hue devices in conjunction with Alexa - Amazon Echo. I do recommend Phillips Hue, it is pricey but you are paying for the one of the leading brands with robustness and well supported - tested devices.

An utterly briliant implementation of flexible home lighting
I've tried a few home automation systems, and I've never been terribly impressed. But when I tried this Philips Hue Starter Kit, I was immediately and utterly hooked. The latest (2019) generation has both WiFi and Bluetooth integration, or so I believe. What really matters is that it's flexible. You can use a button to turn the lights on and off, or you can use an app on your phone. You can, apparently, also hook your lighting system up to Alexa, and you can configure remote access so the lights come on when you're nearly home, but that's too much clever for me. I just want lights I can control easily. You get a button that you can use to turn the lights on, turn the lights off and fade them up and down. You can put this button anywhere: a couple of magnetic baseplates (one the size of a wall-mounted lightswitch, the other tiny) are provided, but you can carry the button around with you if you want. You also get a lighting hub to connect to your wireless router using a network cable. Once you've done that, you can download and use the Philips Hue app on your mobile phone to have detailed control over the lights in each room. The app is not completely intuitive during the setup phase, but once you get the hang of it, it does the job. Using the app, you group lights into rooms, and potentially into groups of lights within a room. You can then dim them and (if the lights are capable) change their colour and/or the warmth of the white light. You can individually control the lights, and you can save "scenes", so you can set the lighting just the way you want it with only a couple of taps. You can also automate the lights to (for example) gradually fade in over the half-hour before you're due to wake up. It's not completely obvious, but, other than the light fitting, these lights come in three basic flavours: "White and Colour" ones are the most flexible. You can dim them, but you can also set the colour to whatever you prefer. "White Ambiance" are second best, offering white light that can be adjusted from a blue-white "bright sunshine" all the way down to a cozy warm yellow. However, you don't get the reds and oranges of early dawn. "White" is a warm white, dimmable, but the "warmth" cannot be adjusted at all. I bought and tried several of each, and my conclusion is that - certainly for bedrooms - the "White and Colour" bulbs are far and away the best, because of the ability to have a lovely dim orange nightlight setting, that's just like the embers of the fire. They are also the most expensive, but they had me giggling with delight. "White and Colour" is of course also best for the living room if you want complete flexibility. "White Ambiance" is probably best for kitchens - you don't need restful colours, but it is useful to be able to switch between bright whight and a more restful yellow-white at will (by default, the Hue software will not the time of day you turned the lights on, and will choose an appropriate warmth setting). "White" is suitable for hallways and passageways, utility rooms and for poorch lighting and the like. They're substantially cheaper than the other sorts, and the mid-warm yellow is as good as any "normal" lightbulb. I've bought more of the Hue Buttons, and - despite the "premium" pricing of the White and Colour bulbs - I'm gradually fitting my entire house out with them. It's an absolute winner.

So far so good!
What an amazing smart bulb kit! It was quite easy to install, my husband helped me, and works perfectly. The lights are very bright, more bright then I was expected and it it energy efficient! Works with Alexa, but also with Google. It may be great as a gift and I will highly recommend! We really love it and was very fun for the whole family to play with the lights!

I just don't see the point
I suppose if you are reading this review, you have already researched these light bulbs and have decided you want to control your lighting through an app. But I just don't see the point. Previous to installing these bulbs, I would flick a strategically placed light switch, which was always in the same place and therefore never required me to walk upstairs in order to adjust my lights. Now, for the brief period I have these installed, when I want to adjust them I have to find my phone, unlock my phone, navigate to one of many, many apps, then make an adjustment to the lights. (I know, I know, I could use a smart home assistant, but I don't like the data harvesting.) And I get to pay £130 for the privilege. I can see the value of smart home devices, I really can, but to me this is an expensive solution in want of a problem. I can't decide whether I am a curmudgeon before my time, or everyone else has just drunk the Kool-aid.

Starter KIT Philips Hue: UN MUST!
