Smaller size, but very handy
I have a Spellbinder Platinum cutting machine and this plate works perfectly. It is only half as big as the standard platform, but l am finding that to be very handy. The magnets are very strong. It has a warning to say that the magnetic field it generates can interfere with a heart pacemaker, so be aware before you buy it. This platform is perfect for cutting a bunch of tiny dies in one pass without having to use tape to hold them all down. It is also great when you are cutting patterned papers and you want your die to line up with the pattern. A smaller platform is much easier to use. Fewer cranks to get it through the machine. Very few dies need the full-sized platform. Another benefit of the smaller size is that it is more affordable. The standard size magnetic platform costs around $70, so this is a great deal. I did purchase brand new acrylic plates and a self-healing mat to use with this platform. I make a sandwich using this platform, a sh mat, the paper and dies, and one acrylic plate. Then l use lightweight cardboard, aka cereal boxes, as shims, if needed. Very happy wirh my purchase. Planning to buy one for a fellow crafter as a gift.

This small magnetic board has resolved my frustration with ornate dies
I bought this Sizzix, Multi Color, Magnetic Platform for Wafer-Thin Dies 656499 several weeks ago, and finally had the time to experiment with it yesterday. I have several very pretty ornate hearts, butterflies, and frame dies. But I couldn't get the entire die to cut out all of the die. So much wasted paper and time. Very frustrating!!! I have the Sizzix Big Shot Plus. I found that using the small magnetic board, Heavy Weight Scrapbooking paper, and the Blueberry plates, I am able to successfully get a full cut out of these lovely ornate dies. It takes extra time, but it is worth it. Here are the steps I do: ~ I cut heavy weight scrapbooking paper to fit the magnetic board. ~ I make sure that I am using 2 flat Blueberry plates that have matched curves, but are as flat as possible. ~ In making the "sandwich", the magnetic board goes on the Big Shot Plus face up. Then place one Blueberry plate on top of the magnetic board. ~ Place the heavy weight paper on top of the center of the paper. Then place the ornate die FACE DOWN on top of the paper. ~ Place another Blueberry plate centered over the magnetic board and first Blueberry plate. ~ I then run the "sandwich" vertically through the center of the Big Shot Plus, and wind it backwards too. I repeat this 2-3 times. ~ Keeping all the "sandwich" together, I now turn the sandwich horizontally which fits perfectly from edge to edge in the 9 inch wide opening of the Big Shot Plus. ~ I run the "sandwich" back and forth through the machine. ~ I lift the top Blueberry plate off. I pick up the die with the heavy paper still attached to the die. I check the paper very carefully to see if there is still a place that needs to be cut. ~ If there is an area that still needs to be cut, I use another set of flat Blueberry plates and repeat the process, making sure that the paper is not shifted out of the ornate die. ~ Success and no wasted paper. Gorgeous ornate frames, hearts, and butterflies. I am very happy with this small magnetic board. The magnet is truly strong. It is so helpful in holding a die in place through the bottom plate of the sandwich. Kudos to Sizzix for making this magnet board.

Works great
I used it to cut out a โญ with one smaller circle and one larger and all of them I did came out great, no tape used. I use it on my Big Shot Switch with the Big Shot accessories. Works better than the platforms it came with. I would buy it again. Thank you.

Helps keep your dies in position while diecutting
Best magnetic platform to run your thin dies through your non-Spellbinders, non-Anna Griffin, non-Crafters Companion machine. I use this in my manual Big Shot (6 inch opening) and my electric Big Shot Plus Switch (9 inch opening). This platform does not warp.

Love it! Wish I bought it sooner!
I was discouraged from buying this for the longest time because the first, โmost helpfulโ review that comes up rated it a 3 and said it was basically not worth getting and the magnets make it jump all over the place. SO WRONG! I attached a video so people can see exactly how the magnets work. The green border is not magnetized. However, as long as part of the die is on the magnet (crossing over the border) it will stay put. You just cannot lay the entire die in the green section (which only affects small dies). Secondly, large dies generally will stay where you put them. I have a โhappy birthdayโ sentiment die, and it does not move from anywhere I place it. On my 1โ x 1โ dies, they may move a little bit here and there, but for the majority of the plate, it does not (except if I lay the whole die in the green border). My smallest dies is 1/4โ x 1/4โ and as you can see from the video, that heart moves the most when I place it on the board....however by just a little and it is easy to adjust. The only way I could imagine this being an issue is if I tried to lay down maybe 20 of these small hearts to cut at the same time? I am not sure...I do not have that many tiny dies...As for warped plates, I could see how that would be a problem with the magnet. My plates do not seem to get that warped....I definitely do the test when I place my plate down in whether it gives when pushed in center, if yes, flip it. Mine have a slight curve and I have no problems. I am saving so much time and money not having to use washi tape to adhere my dies to the paper. I also have a Gemini Jr and it comes with a magnet shim to keep your dies in place but I like this so much better because that shim ultimately gets warped and marked up and I have replaced it several times over. Looking at it this way, the price of this platform in the long run is cheaper than my Gemini when you factor in the constant replacing. Last, this platform removes the need for the thinlet die shim that came with my machine. I no longer need it in my sandwich with this and that was always giving me a problem because I sometimes made the mistake of not having all the layers lined up straight before cranking. I highly recommend getting this...it is a no-brained for me!

Comparison: Sizzix Magnetic vs Genius Magnetic Platform
I have both the Sizzix Magnetic Platform and the Lifestyle Crafts Genius Magnetic Platform. Since you have probably already read what everyone loves about this Sizzix item, I thought I would contribute my thoughts comparing the pros and cons of each. The Sizzix platform is 6 1/8" wide (15.56 cm) which means it won't fit in the Cuttlebug. The Genius platform is exactly 6" wide, which makes the Genius compatible with the Cuttlebug. Both brands have other important differences, including which platform simultaneously cuts and embosses (Genius), and which is easier to use when lining up an image(Sizzix). My biggest beef with Sizzix's product is the continued use of Clear Plexiglass Cutting Pads. I can't imagine why they keep using these, other than the fact that they are a consumable which needs to be replaced. Even more so with the magnetic platform. Here's the breakdown of PROs and CONs, as I see it: *Sizzix Platform PROs: more compact than the Genius platform (6-1/8" x 8-7/8") and the die cutting edge faces down, making it easier to line up and cut an image. Sizzix magnetic platform has a much stronger magnetic pull. The cutting sandwich is the platform, one un-warped clear cutting pad, the paper, the die facing down, and another clear cutting pad. No tabs or shims to deal with, unless you want to emboss. *Sizzix CONs: You still have to use those awful clear plastic plates that warp. Once it warps, the dies have a harder time making contact with the magnetic surface. Some reviews say that's a myth. No, it's no myth! It's true. I bought a brand new set of Sizzix Cutting Pads just to use with my new Sizzix magnetic platform. I made one pad dedicated to "No Cut"... both pads are still beginning to warp after just 5 or 6 cuts, because the "no cut" pad has to be on top. *Genius PROs: No clear plexi cutting mats to warp after five cuts! The Genius platform embosses simultaneously because of a flexible cutting mat. I really like the self healing mat, so much better than Sizzix clear rigid plates. The Genius only uses ONE cutting pad. The sandwich is: the platform, the die, the paper and the cutting mat. Also, the Genius has a much longer, but slightly narrower, cutting surface (6" x 13") which means it will fit through the Cuttlebug. *Genius CONs: The Genius platform has fewer magnets, spaced farther apart. If you are making a frame with multiple dies, you do have to move and turn the dies to find a good position. And of course, the fact that the cutting edge faces up, is a real bummer. To ensure a perfect image cut, you may want to use a bit of washi tape or a post-it note to keep the paper/die aligned, which is a disappointment considering I bought the Genius magnetic platform to skip that step! Still, the magnetic feature keeps the die from sliding on the platform, which I like. The best thing about both brands of platforms, is that you can toss all those cardstock & cardboard shims you have lying around, because both magnetic platforms cut the wafer-thin dies without a jerry-rigged sandwich of shims! I really like that feature so much! If I was only cutting shapes with no image to line up; I prefer the Genius. If I need to line up the die on a photo or an image; I reach for the Sizzix Platform. Too bad they don't make a hybrid of these 2 brands!

Glad to have the Sizzix Magnetic Board again..miss it!
When I had my previously Big Shot Cutting & Emboss machine I had used for years the Sizzix Magnetic Board, but somehow I missed placed it when I replace the Big Shot. Works great with the Dies from Stampin Up, no longer need to use tape to keep the Dies from moving on the Card stock.

Perfect
I don't have a Sizzix but this platform works brilliantly in my die cutter. The extra length allows me to use longer dies. I bought the cutting pads to match and have increased the usefulness of my die cut machine.
