We Really love this game. The pieces are really nice and good quality cards. The board is nicely decorated. For those who love the strategy games like scythe, ticket to ride, Catan, this is same sort of ground. You don't need to be a bird lover but if you are, double bonus! My daughter in law loves playing scythe with us and being a nature and bird lover I thought this would make a nice gift and it went down a treat. A valuable addition to games night!

We purchased this at a time when the main Wingspan board game was out of stock everywhere and my daughter was desperate to play. We were not disappointed with this expansion pack as it has everything in it for a great game. My daughter had played before and I was completely new to the game - both of us enjoyed the experience so it works well for new and familiar players. Initially a bit surprised at the cost, after opening up the box and playing the game, I can see why it is relatively expensive for a board game. The quality of every element from cards to 'eggs' to the playing boards are superb and very well thought out. I particularly liked the instructions. As quite a complex game for new players, having the 'first run through' instructions to help walk you through the first few rounds in an excellent idea, making complete and quick sense of how to play. It also teaches you some of the game tactics in an intuitive and straight forward way. A lot of other game companies should take note! I have now bought the full game as we enjoy this gorgeous expansion set so much. Thoroughly recommend for a gentle, absorbing and tactical game to play with friends and family.

Really nice game like other Stonemaier games. Easy to get to grips with and has a nice relaxing feel to it with the eggs and bird information. Definitely recommend.

Note: There is a very well made software version of this game available on PC, iOS and Android for a much lower price than the physical edition if you’re just looking to try it out, or maybe get a tutorial. Well worth a peep. Wingspan is a fairly straightforward engine building game in which you play birds into a choice of habitats (woodlands, grasslands, and wetlands) for points which are all counted up at the end of the game to decide the victor. Each bird has its own special effect, which over the course of the game combine with the effects of other adjacent birds to create large combos to more efficiently gather food, eggs and more bird cards to play. The first few turns don’t feel particularly rewarding, but as your arrangement fills up, it creates a satisfying system of synergies - “I will do this, which gets me this, and this too, and because of that, I can do this and that and get these as well.” While this is undeniably fun, it’s not particularly competitive. Some may relish the chilled layback nature of just playing their own little game on their own board which is almost entirely self contained (with just a few small exceptions) and just comparing at the end who did the best, whereas others will lament that lack of direct interactivity with other players. This isn’t a game for those that relish sabotaging other players around them as much as possible. The games components are really quite lovely. Little food tokens that have their own little lidded tubs to keep them in, dinky colourful eggs that look like they should contain chocolate (but don’t!), and a nice container to keep all the cards in, but the real pièce de résistance has to be the little dice rolling tower in the shape of a little wooden bird house. It’s a really nice touch that makes the whole game feel very classy. Neat as a pin all around! In terms of strategy and balance. I have very little negative to say. Because high scores can be achieved in a number of different ways, players are very rarely in a position where they were doomed from the start, destined to fail. It CAN absolutely still happen, but the elegant design allows you to circumnavigate those obstacles most of the time. In the approx 30 games I’ve played so far, I’ve only had a fully fledged starting fail 2 or 3 times max. If you pivot your original strategy soon enough, you can nearly always come out with a respectable score at the very least. So yes, all in all I heartily recommend Wingspan. It’s really quite straightforward once you’ve played a game or two, and works quite well in a more social gaming session, allowing people to just chat and have fun without having to spend the entire time obsessing over what everyone else is doing. It’s lovely to look at, easy to set up and pack away and is very replayable. Good stuff!

Wingspan is an outstanding board game that’s both relaxing and engaging. The artwork is absolutely stunning and the components are excellent quality, especially the bird cards and the little wooden eggs. It has a great balance of strategy and engine-building without feeling too heavy or competitive. Every game is very different thanks to the variety of bird powers and bonus cards. It plays well with just two but also scales nicely for larger groups. Easily one of the best games in my collection. Highly recommended for both casual and serious board gamers.

As sure as eggs is eggs this is a game that everyone (14+ years seems high) will enjoy - if they can make keeping birds work towards the variable targets. There are points for lots of different things at the end of a round and at the end of a game. Games can be quick (30mins-hour) or leisurely fun with conversation. This is a great game. It looks nice and friendly and is at that. The mechanic of the game is well crafted to reward careful planning and responding to options that arise. The turn (8 down to 4) cubes keep each round (of four) well policed and allow everyone to keep track of what those around them are up to. Some bonuses depend on what turn options are covered by cubes and how many cubes. Playing some bird cards gains an extra bonus target. Most birds have some ability and when you find a synchronicity between them you make out like a bandit. The cards are standard size for those that like to sleave. I would have liked to see less plastic from such an environment educational game (should be zero rated for customs/VAT for that) The resource storage trays could have been cardboard. I understand the card trays are now egg box card (apt). The eggs could have been wood. Otherwise this is a perfect one (yes solo with automa opposition) to five player game. Grown-up social gaming.

I bought this for my stepdad as a Christmas present and we have been playing it nonstop since he opened it yesterday! We did have to watch the video linked on the back of the instruction book rather than reading the rules as they’re very dense. But the video was great and clearly explained how to set up and play. Halfway through the first game everything because clear and the game is actually very simple and enjoyable. While still competitive there’s not sabotage or anything feeling personal in the competition like other board games. There have been no arguments! While simple to understand the gameplay is complex and massively replay-able. The quality of the game is amazing as well. Even the instruction booklets are high quality paper. The cards of birds are gorgeous and everything is very nicely made. The only lower quality thing is the card box which is a fairly thin plastic and I could predict it cracking with rough handling. But for the quality of the things that are handled more often through the game it’s a fair sacrifice. Overall I’m really happy with my choice to buy this as a present!

I bought this game against my GF's will (she said we had enough games). Well, for the first time in a long time she was wrong... She and I (I don't really love board games) fell in love with this game. It's nice. Not 2 games are the same and there are a thousand ways to win. We are considering buying the expansions too

Please note that this is an expansion to the Wingspan base game, and although the base game is not required, you might as well add that to your collection as well! I would strongly recommend fans of Wingspan to purchase this expansion. If you don't currently own Wingspan, this is a great introduction into the base game! The gorgeous card art and new birds makes it a fantastic draw. There is a new duet mode that is perfect for two players, and a 6-7 player flock mode to add another player to the player count of the base game! Seeing that this is a cheaper and more accessible expansion for Wingspan than the base game, I would highly recommend new and old players alike to purchase this game!
