The "wrap" is some type of wire,possibly brass or copper, that holds the wood handle and the knife together.

What sharpening angle should be used with this blade?

The blade is a convex grind... I set my sharpener at a 20 degree angle which cause a secondary bevel but seems to holds up well when cutting brush and such...
