#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER An idealistic lawyer makes dangerous enemies as he fights to free an innocent man sentenced to life in prison in this “suspenseful thriller mixed with powerful themes” (Associated Press). In the small Florida town of Seabrook, a young lawyer named Keith Russo was shot dead at his desk as he worked late one night. The killer left no clues. There were no witnesses, no one with a motive. But the police soon came to suspect Quincy Miller, a young Black man who was once a client of Russo’s. Quincy was tried, convicted, and sent to prison for life. For twenty-two years he languished in prison, maintaining his innocence. But no one was listening. He had no lawyer, no advocate on the outside. In desperation, he writes a letter to Guardian Ministries, a small nonprofit run by Cullen Post, a lawyer who is also an Episcopal minister. Guardian accepts only a few innocence cases at a time. Cullen Post travels the country fighting wrongful convictions and taking on clients forgotten by the system. With Quincy Miller, though, he gets far more than he bargained for. Powerful, ruthless people murdered Keith Russo, and they do not want Quincy Miller exonerated. They killed one lawyer twenty-two years ago, and they will kill another without a second thought. Review: Not So Little, White Lies - A former clergy collar waring lawyer fights with words to get men off of death-row before time runs out for three men behind bars. the book is fast paces, but you need not be a law student to enjoy this book. I use to read the author's books frequently, until the one book after another appeared similarly to his previously written books. Even one of my favorite writers can get burned-out with constant writing. However, I enjoyed the various characters and their varied backgrounds. For instance, the main character had a background in religion and law. He had a nervous breakdown and turns within. This is current, since everyone is speaking of mental health. Good mental health is as important as a health heart, kidneys, the many organ we relay on to make it to retirement. It was refreshing to read about a next door neighbor, and not the wealthy Techy who makes millions of dollars and does not have to worry about paying his office rent and supporting his car notes. The main character is interesting, because, money does not drive him. He needs a balanced life, but he can't afford one and he is aware of his weak areas. I could hardly put the book down. The book was not action-packed, but fast paced, and kept me guessing. Gresham is an excellent writer and I can tell by his story lines that is well-rounded and can place himself in various individuals shoes. I won't wait another ten years before I start reading his books again. I recommend this book, it is a good summer read. Review: classic Grisham - Quick read. Great detail. Fun characters. Always fun to read his books. You’re never quite sure where he’s going. Enjoy.

Another Grisham Classic
This is another great book from John Grisham. In my view, he can tell a story like no other author. I highly recommend this book.

The Guardians is a worthwhile read.
Our first audio book, on a long road trip. We really enjoyed and learned a lot of sad truths about our systems and wasted tax dollars.

Another Great from a Great!
Grisham IS one of the greatest story tellers of our time and this book only adds to that fact. I absolutely recommend this one to lovers of legal thrillers like myself

Good story, intriguing
We listened to this on a car trip. Good story! Sometimes, I felt like there was a little too much play on stereotypes of Southerners, those involved in the justice and penal systems, etc. so I removed a star.

A slow read
I wasn’t surprised to learn when reading the author’s note at the end that the book was based on a true story because so much of it reads more like an overly detailed non-fiction account of problems within the justice and prison systems than a fictional legal “thriller.” So, while I appreciate Grisham’s exhaustive research and attempts to remain true to the actual events, it’s a slow read as the protagonist methodically details one painstaking step after another in his attempts to try to get his clients out of prison for crimes they didn’t commit. The minor characters are often boring, disagreeable (or both), and we’re forced to endure quite a number of them. Although the story of an innocent man wrongly convicted and forced to endure year after year in prison is in itself incredibly moving and often heartbreaking, the way the story was told was so cumbersome and tedious there were times I didn’t think I’d make it through to the end.

amazing
Typical John Grisham, except for one of his books, I haven’t read a lousy story written by him, I won’t mention the one that I didn’t enjoy, because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else, they might like it, but it wasn’t to my taste. This story was riveting, I breezed through it, couldn’t put it down, keep up the good work John and thank you.

私が印象深かったのは、Quincyという冤罪をこうむった人のことを、「But Quincy is still serving hard time for a murder committed by someone else.」、と表現していることである。
