Battlestar Galactica The Board Game: Pegasus Expansion

I'm writing this review with the assumption that readers have bought the base board game (Battlestar Galactica The Board Game); this is not a stand-alone expansion -- it requires the core game to play. What makes this expansion so great is all the variety it adds to the core game without changing the formula too much, and it also allows the owner to adjust game variants or exclude some from the game all together, without ruining the game's balance. For example: we rarely play with the New Caprica variant; while thematically suitable, it feels like a completely different game and makes the game even more difficult for the human player's to win as it legthens gameplay by another hour or so. Even if you're not often using aspects of the Pegasus expansion, I still think there's more than enough here to warrant a purchase. New cards, the Pegasus ship, new characters, rule changes and adjustments and plastic basestars (may be the most wanted item in the expansion) are all easily implemented into the core game without throwing the game off balance. Cylon leaders take more time to explain and master (recommended for experienced players) and take away some of the mystery of the game, but it's great to have them as an option. The same goes with New Caprica; one can never have too many options (I recommend playing New Caprica with only experienced players and when said players want a more challenging and lengthy game). Like the base game, to get the whole BSG board game experience one should watch the reimagined series (particularly because of all the spoilers in the game cards) and play with fellow fans. This is a very social game, so enjoyment varies depending on who you're playing with and overall experience. This is not a necessary expansion, but it does include several cards and rules that help balance the core game (such as replacement cards for the overpowered or underwhelming ones included in the base game). All things considered, I would recommend this expansion to all fans of the original board game.

This is an amazing game and the expansion just makes it better. The addition of the Pegasus ship, as well as it's additional risky options like trying to force a jump, and execution really add to the variety of the game's mafia style politics. Cylon leaders lend an interesting dynamic as well, since they want one side to win, but only they know who, and it has to be after certain events have occurred which mean that if the game ends too fast, they lose (so they help draw out play similar to a sympathizer but with more power and motive).

We loved the original Battlestar Galactica Game, and so when I saw this expansion, I had to get it for my hubby. It definitely takes time to learn the extra rules and additions, but it's so worth it. And it's fun that someone can start off as a known cylon. (see previous reviewers for a crazy amount of details!) We've always been really skeptical on games based off of movies and tv shows (who isn't?) but this game is amazing. Just make sure you plan to have at least 3-4 hours to play- it's a long game. We also really like Settlers of Catan, Agricola, Pandemic, and Dominion. If you are a gamer, you'll love Battlestar! Even if you've never watched the show, it's a fun game. But I'd recommend watching the show first- it will give you a deeper understanding of the characters and why they have the abilities and disabilities that are on their card. So fun! Great role-playing game.

This is a fantastic expansion. There additional characters and game dynamics really enhance the original game. The BSG board game to this day still gets a lot of play. I would add one house rule to make the expansion more enjoyable. Do not play with New Caprica (aka "Hoth"). I think of New Caprica like a mini-game. It's kind of interesting, but overall, it doesn't add a lot to the game play. Frankly, the addition of the Airlock (to toss people out of) itself should be enough to make you buy this expansion. I would also highly recommend playing this with Battlestar Galactica: Exodus Expansion .

Amazing expansion with a much more frantic and epic final endgame sequence rather than just jumping. Sympathetic cylon excellently replaces the sympathizer well but the new ship Pegasus and the cards are where the expansion really shines. Trechery is a lit'le weak but best used with the cylon leaders

The game was brand new, in excellent condition and well packaged. It was also delivered very quickly. A hassle-free purchase. This product is ideal for people who like strategy and role-playing board games, although bear in mind this is an expansion and you'd need to have the original game to be able to use it. However, the expansion adds new characters to the existing game and a whole new dimension to it.

I brought this game for my husbands birthday. I'm pleased to say he loves it . It's a great game to have while friends are over, I hear friendly banter while their all playing the game and for days after. In fact his been asked several times to have a Galactica games day as they enjoy it so much (and I enjoy the TV to myself.)
