Meta Portal - Smart Video Calling 10 Inch Display - White

OMG - thank you FB for creating such a simple and fantastic product as the FB Portal!! It has transformed our life!! My 86 year old Mom, is deaf and suffers with Vascular Dementia; she resides in a Care Home and we have not been able to visit her since March 2020 when the UK went into lockdown ☹ Purchasing the Portal was the very best thing we did! We speak to her multiple times a day now! Her friends and other relatives are now in regular contact with her and her mental health has improved significantly since she's been able to see people again. The quality of the audio and camera is superb. The volume goes really high, so Mom can actually hear us without us having to yell at the top of our voices! The way the camera follows us around the room is a bonus as she gets to see the dog whom she misses terribly and she does't miss out on the hustle and bustle of home! I can't recommend the Portal highly enough. Everybody should have one! It's an absolute lifesaver for the elderley. Worth every penny!

The Portal has a number of privacy features, such as a physical camera cover and the ability to disable the microphone. This makes it a secure device to use in your home. Cons: -Pricey. The Portal is a bit pricey, especially when compared to other smart video calling devices. -Facebook integration. The Portal is integrated with Facebook, which some people may not like. -Limited app selection. The Portal only has a limited selection of apps available. This means that you may not be able to use all of your favorite apps on the Portal.

When it worked, it was OK. Very quirky, needed repeated signing in and out of my phone. I liked the cam which kind of follows you round the room and it was good for video calls. Then, after 4 months, it died. Too late for a return via Amazon. So contacted Portal Support. Told they would send a postage label within 2 working days to return it for repair or replacement. After a week with no label, requested again. Same outcome. And again. Same outcome. Then wrote a review about the crappy device and Sony contacted me offering to send me a new power cable. Which didn't come. And seems to be making its way to some place in the US instead of to me. So another interaction with Portal support for the replacement cable. After a month with a dead device I'm still waiting. Kafka couldn't put it better

At £40 this is a great product. The software is simple and although being a closed system (sideloading apps is impossible) this works in its favour for the portal 10 which is obviously powered just enough to run the apps it has built in. The browser is a bit slow but I use it to run bbc iPlayer and itvx to have the world cup on in the background just fine. I would never pay its original price but at this price point it's a steal and I think might even if as rumoured FB allows for sideloading in a final security update become a long standing product on my work desk. Google.meet calls in the browser work great, zoom and WhatsApp calls are better. Alexa is brilliant although I haven't figured out how to get announcements on it yet.

I bought this for my elderly mother. It kept us in touch while she was in hospital for several months. She is unable to work a mobile phone but can use this easily. It’s brilliant but it’s being discontinued which is a shame

Bought this due to my last webcam not working in less than a year re the volume and as my dad lives in America needed something else to video call them on and as I had a bad thing with a webcam went for this and so glad I did. My 9 year okd uses it alot to chat to his cousin while playing and loves the different features and it's very easy for everyone to use. Only downfall is it has to be plugged in all the time on the call so you can't move around easily with it but that's my fault for not seeing that.

Purchased for my parents during covid and was brilliant for keeping in touch and easy enough for them to work. Bit disappointed that it now won’t work(blank screen) and have tried resetting but having no luck.

We have now purchased two of these to keep in contact with elderly relatives during lockdown- they have been invaluable in helping reduce the feeling of isolation. As neither recipient had a smart phone we simply used old phones we had and purchased a payg SIM card. We also set up Facebook accounts for them to allow contact via Messenger. Both relatives needed help with the set-up, but as one is his 90s we expected that! Just love the fact that we can see each other now and the way it pans out/zooms in if he moves in his chair or stands up. We bought the medium size ones which are perfectly large enough and I love that there is nothing to pay after the initial purchase. For some reason the ability to phone my dad via WhatsApp keeps stopping but I’m sure that is something that could be overcome. We just ring him via messenger instead. Great way for him to keep in contact with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Would definitely recommend.

My dad is very happy after I brought him this Gadget. - The audio and Video call Quality is excellent. - The camera has auto focus, moves with you, zooms on you etc. - has the advantage of making FB Messenger & Watsapp calls.

Acquistato solo per poter aver assistenza all'accesso del mio account facebook bloccato senza alcun motivo nel giugno 2020, sono riuscito ad accedere all'assistenza, perchè se non hai un prodotto facebook o oculus non ti danno assistenza, ma purtroppo neppure avendo in mano il loro prodotto non sono stati in grado di ridarmi l'accesso, quindi ho restituito il prodotto inutilizzabile, nel 2021 avevo provato con l'acquisto del visore oculus, anche li senza successo..... restituii anche quello....... praticamente Facebook è inaffidabile sull'assistenza, se vi informate sul web è possibile trovare migliaia di casi come il mio..... P.s ottobre 2022 non ho ancora accesso....

This is great! I can talk and see my Great Grandchildren. They can all call me even the two year old can find my picture and press on it. I use this most days. I read books, help with homework, watch them dance and sing, do cartwheels. We bought ours about 7 years ago,when my son bought one for himself and his daughter who moved out of state. We now have two granddaughters with 7 children between them, so we bought another one this year for the other family, and keep connected with each other. It works better than a cell phone for the kids to use. The camera pans in and out so if they are doing cartwheels I can see the whole cartwheel. Ours is still going great after 7 years.

I don’t live in the UK but it was cheaper to buy it here so please don’t forget that you have to buy a Uk adapter
