Statistics...
Statistically speaking, air travel is still the safest form of travel available to us. Don't let this film fool you otherwise. I mean, what are the odds that a loved one will die in a plane crash. Furthermore, what are the odds that this loved one will be sitting next to the person that they've been carrying on an affair with for a while now? Again, despite the physical and emotional devastation that this film's plot brings to the screen, don't let that fool you...the odds are extremely low. Anyway, this was a decent film that loses a star only because the subplot of Harrison Ford's police officer character confused me a bit. It looked like someone tried to splice an episode of Law and Order in there. But apart from that, a fine film. Ford and co-star Kristin Scott Thomas seemed very natural together, even when the antagonism was in the air. They showed us the struggle of two people who not only lost their spouses in a plane crash, but learned that these spouses had been cheating on both of them with each other. While we hear about this plot point a lot throughout the feature, it's never overdone, so you can sit there without wanting to remove your ears. It's a decent flick and I'll go read the book soon. Enjoy.

I miss Sydney Pollack!
This is a mature, sophisticated movie that deals with a subject (adultery) that, although unpleasant because it affects two unsuspecting, attractive in their own right spouses, it reflects real life. I kept being drawn back to the movie and have watched it several times. It probably has happened many times in real life in the same circumstances. Kristen Scott Thomas' character seemed willing to put her adulterous husband behind her because of 1)her daughter, 2) her very public position as a congresswoman and 3)maybe the relationship wasn't all that great to begin with. The Harrison Ford character found it much more difficult to move on with his life because he "didn't have a clue" that his wife was cheating on him and he was paid as a policeman to know when people were lying to him. In my mind, Scott Thomas gave a terrific performance, as usual. Two of her "speeches" were highlights in the movie: the phone call to Mr. Ford's recorder and her statement to the press as she left the hospital. The hospital statement summed up the movie in a brief, brilliant fashion. At the end, out of pain and disappointment came the possibility of happiness. How many hours of great entertainment and story telling was given to us by Sydney Pollack? Think of all the great movies that he produced and/or directed. He died too soon. I miss Sydney Pollack when I think of all the stories he had yet to tell. ps: The music in this movie is outstanding and played a big part in setting tone and mood.

Makes you say hmmmm....
Enjoyed this movie. Different storyline than typical which keeps you watching and wondering what will happen next. I don't want to give away the storyline but if you like a bit of action in your romance movies, you will probably like this. The actors do an awesome job!

It's ok
Not a fan of Kristin Scott Thomas, . perhaps her part was poorly written, I didn't care for the bulk, but I liked the ending.

This 2006 film was unavailable from LoveFilm hence my decision to purchase as I remembered it as one of Harrison Ford's best. Good films like good books do not go easily out of date. The film opens with shots of an empty bedroom, (2 wine glasses and a bottle placed deliberately in the foreground) and a phone message from an unidentified man leaving a message for someone who presumably might have been occupying the bed! The storyline moves fairly fast and you need to be concentrating as both the police sergeant (Harrison Ford), and those viewing the film, start putting the pieces together to make a coherent jigsaw picture of love, marriage, betrayal and the lies that always go with betrayal. Good performances from both major and minor characters. The weakest part of the film is the sergeant's work with a rather muddled and contrived plot here and therefore if the rating allowed half-stars it would have got four and a half rather than five! Otherwise, excellent: settle down with your own bottle of wine and enjoy.

Was man Ihnen auch gönnt. Nur das Ende ist etwas "verwirrend". Die DVD habe ich wieder Gebraucht bei: reBuy reCommerce GmbH gekauft. Alles war wieder in ordnung. Super.

On paper this is a regular, improbable, coincidence-riddled stock Hollywood film isn't it? Boy-meets-girl, both die in plane crash, very surprised ex-partners discover each other, etc. We get the obligatory US government angle plus a corrupt cop investigation, chase and shooting thrown in too. Now watch the film and read Ebert's review. Janet Maslin, another critic, wrote 'laconic Ford is wrenchingly effective throughout'. That works for me. How accurately the word 'wrenching' describes it all. Harrison Ford is disturbingly, self-revealingly good. Kristin Scott-Thomas is always good. Their cold, understated earlier conversations are first class I think and the opening situation (and scenes) will haunt you for the rest of the film, maybe longer.
