This shell is perfect for what I was looking for
This shell is perfect for what I was looking for! The color is great; very cute! My child is just barely 2, about 26 pounds, and on the taller side; tallish and fairly thin for a visual! He typically wears a 2T, but some of his shirts are starting to become a bit short for him. I have started putting him in some 3T shirts for the length, even though 2T is best for width. Anyway, I purchased the 3T hoping it would provide a little extra room to allow for a sweatshirt or another layer underneath once it gets colder and more winter like. The 3T fits perfect for this! With just a tee shirt underneath it is a little big but not overly so and I will definitely be able to use it over another warm layer as our Utah weather soon becomes winter. The sleeves are a tad long but just pushing them up works fine with the elastic in the wrists. You could easily roll them up if needed. Additionally, I found I was able to tuck the jacket all the way into one of the pockets, similar to some of the Columbia adult shells that pack into themselves, for easy packing while traveling. This is not a feature of this shell, but I figured I would try it anyway and while it is not perfect and does not zip closed or anything it worked out fine for me! You could easily do this and tuck it away into the pocket of a diaper bag, backpack, purse, or another jacket! I'm very happy with this purchase and would definitely buy this jacket again.

Great kids rain jacket for light rain
This is a great rain jacket for light rain days. Don’t expect to use this while your kid is in a heavy downpour outside for longer than 5 minutes. I also went into it knowing this is for quick trips to stores (in and out of the car) or bus trips to school where they likely won’t have outside recess due to rain. I own a similar adult sized cost for the same purpose. I’ve worked outside for years and have a heavier rain coat for that. This is perfect for light rain to go in and out of places. Amazon asked how I liked it for warmth. Well, I don’t. But I know that! It’s for layering on cold days. It’s not a base layer on a cold day. Toss on a sweater or hoodie underneath and you’re good to go. It’s not insulated but isn’t meant to be. Ball it up and shove it in a bag in case it rains later. I’ve been buying this style for years for myself and the kids. But knowing it’s for light rain and needs layering on chilly, rainy days and you won’t be disappointed. It’s a great jacket at an awesome price! They don’t break down easily either, so they’ll last 5-10 years.

Great Quality Raincoat at an Amazing Price!
I purchased this for my 10 year old for this fall/spring going to/from school. The Large is a little big on him, but he runs small (12% on height and weight charts) and it gives him plenty of room to grow. The quality is great and feels sturdy without being rubbery. We have not yet had a chance to test out the waterproofing, but being a good brand that I trust, I imagine that won't be an issue. It is a thin jacket. I don't think it will provide much warmth other than keeping him dry and blocking the wind, but it will be perfect over a sweatshirt for the cooler days. I liked it so much that I returned the "cutesy" raincoat I bought my 4 year old and bought a second one of these in a size Small for him!

Great, affordable, versatile jacket for the kids
Needed to gear up my little one for a trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where the weather is super volatile and unpredictable, and temperature can range 30+ degrees between highs and lows even over the summer. This is a great option -- affordable, versatile, and durable. My wife and I have more "adult" gear that need care and maintenance -- our rain jackets use the newer laminates that have to be used and stored w/ caution b/c you dont want that stuff to peel (or else you lose the rain and wind blocking qualities). This one is waterproof nylon. Worked amazing to keep out the rain (it rained a lot, and it was cold rain!), the wind (a great layer to wear on the lake or after getting out of the water), and -- super importantly -- mosquitos can't bite through it! Also tolerates bug sprays and sunscreens. This is a great material to use for kids over the more expensive laminates and goretex etc. Only reason I took off one star is that the pockets should REALLY have zippers. Every outdoors grade jacket should have zippered pockets!!!

Perfect rain coat!
My son loves this rain coat, it's light and breezy but keeps him dry and the hood stays up! The zipper does get stuck on the jacket sometimes when he zips it up but he loves it and wears it as often as he can :) I ordered him a size larger so it wasn't snug and so he could get another year out of it and I don't regret that! Although I do think it is true to its size!

Five Stars
Update after owning 2 years: This jacket could become sentient and try to kill me in my sleep, it would still get 5 stars. This item has stood the test of time and still keeps me dry, even when the rain is coming down so hard you don't know whether to walk or swim. It's so light, it should be a mandatory item for hikes and backpacking. It stuffs into a tiny little ball, so you can keep it anywhere. It looks good too, so points for style. Pros: Fits great, price is right. I've been camping, hunting, and hiking with it. This year the Elk hunt was BRUTAL, it rained the whole time. Even though all my other waterproof/resistant gear eventually soaked through, anything under this jacket stayed dry. I wear it when I bike to work if it rains. I have gotten more than the $30 worth of use out of it. I have snagged it a few times in branches and it hasn't ripped. Cons: Not vented, so If you are exerting yourself during a warmer rain, you'll get wet from your own sweat anyway.

“Big Boy” sizing seems somewhat small: Overall great jacket!!
Big Boys Size Medium claims to be equivalent to a 10/12. If you’re child wears a 12, I think this jacket would be too small. My son walks to a designated pick up area after school and our off-brand rain jacket didn’t keep him dry. The approximately $30 price tag on this jacket is a great deal compared to our $25 generic jacket that didn’t keep him dry. Since the seams aren’t sealed, this would probably leak if you were on a long rainy hike, but to get from point A to point B, this jacket does the trick. Hood is nice and zippers are quality... they operate smoothly. I can’t fins any flaws in this jacket. The workhorse works s expected and is a good value. I would buy again and recommend to others.

but I like the length on his body right now)
My oldest just started kindergarten and we're walking to school every day, so I ordered him this rain jacket and some rain boots for wet days. We got to try it out on meet the teacher night and he loves it! I had considered others with cute designs, but decided to buy a larger size and go with Columbia so it will hold up for a couple years for him and then we can pass it down to his younger siblings. He likes the color and it fits him well. He is a tall kid and almost six-I bought him a size 8 and it should fit him through next year (we did need to roll the sleeves a bit, but I like the length on his body right now). I especially like that it is simply a shell and does not have any warming layers. We live in Texas and it rains plenty while it's hot, so I want him to be able to wear this on warm rainy days without getting overheated. We're very happy with the jacket so far and my son is now looking forward to rainy days when he can use his cool blue jacket!

Looks and feels a bit thin
Yeah, it's just a casual jacket for windy or rainy days (not a raincoat). Hoped the material was a little bit thicker. Overall an OK jacket.
