Boss PSA-120S Power Adapter

In my opinion, the “Boss PSA-120S Power Adapter” is an industry leader in on-the-floor or desktop pedalboard power supplies. I own several and have never had any noise or wire interference, and the power is stable all the time. I would recommend this adapter to everyone looking for an easy-to-use 9V power supply for their pedalboard units. Just don't try to power several units at once for a long gig.

This is an excellent power adapter that fully meets expectations. It is unquestionably an authentic PSA-120S unit, even arriving in official Boss/Roland packaging — a reassuring detail for anyone concerned about receiving a genuine product. I connected it to my Boss ME-90, and it performs flawlessly, delivering clean, consistent power while saving me a significant amount on AA batteries. Thus far, I’ve experienced no unwanted noise or interference. As the adapter officially recommended by Boss for their gear, it’s clear this unit was designed specifically with these devices in mind. While it is priced higher than many generic alternatives, the peace of mind that comes with using the manufacturer’s recommended product—especially when powering high-end equipment—is well worth the investment. The only reason I’m not giving a full 5 stars is simply because I’ve only recently purchased it, and I’d like to see how it performs over time. That said, based on the build quality and performance so far, I don’t anticipate any issues.

Daisy chaining 4 or 5 pedals, this works perfectly. The MRX and True Tone gave me nothing but noise.

I bought this adapter for use with an old roland mixer(MX-5). The universal adapter I was using with it (PowerLine 600mA) caused the mixer to emit a high-pitched buzz (not 60hz hum) especially when the mixer is set to high levels. The buzz disappears if the mixer is run on battery. I searched for alternative adapters and found several that were cheaper than the psa-120s. However, on the pictures I saw that the psa-120s seemed to have a ferrite core(?) which function I've read is to filter line noise. The cheaper ones, and even some models that cost the same didn't appear to have it. So I decided on the psa-120s and was not disappointed. Upon turning on the power button on the mixer with the psa-120s connected, I was relieved to hear silence. I increased the sens(gain) and volume controls and listened to music coming from my computer and was glad to hear pure sound with no perceptible noise. The adapter is auto-volt from 100-240v sources which makes it good for travelling and the redesigned wall wart now only occupies one slot on the power strip. I was glad I spent the few extra dollars.

I purchased this to save batteries on my Boss ME25 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal , which has a healthy appetite for them. I did consider a few after-market supplies, but opted for this one because I felt it was a safer choice. This will work with any 9 volt DC device that consumes up to (but does not exceed) .5 Amps. To make sure this is right for a non-Boss device check your connector receptacle. The male barrel connector on this adapter is 2.5mm x 5.5mm (inner x outer diameters). The piece right behind the barrel connector houses two coils that function as RF filters, and they do work on my BE-25, because it is noise-free. Another feature that makes this safe and handy for non-Boss devices is it has a protection circuit that will go into overload mode if the device to which you connect this requires more than 9 volts DC or attempts to draw more than .5 Amps. The wall wart is less than an inch thick and is about 2.25 inches long, so should not interfere with adjacent plugs in a power strip. The wire itself is fairly thick - much beefier than many power supplies I own, and there are four separate strain reliefs in the total wire run, so with care this power supply should last a long time.

The recommended adapter for most Boss products. I got it for my Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat Metronome. Now no worries about batteries. It is well built and hardy product. An original Boss. Highly recommended for professional musicians and students.
