Electro-Harmonix 12BH7 Gold Pin Pre-amp Vacuum Tube

I purchased a pair of these for a vintage Sansui amplifer that uses two 12BH7 tubes. In a quest for the perfect tubes for my amplifer I have tried matched NOS tubes from GE, RCA, Westinghouse, Sylvania, and Raython. All of these tubes sounded great, and all differed in certain ways but never really made a lasting impression. I've always believed that NOS tubes were better than the tubes being made today, and depending on which tube and manufacturer, I still believe this to be true, but this Electro-Harmonix 12BH7 took me by surprise! This tube sounded better than every 12BH7 I've tried. These two tubes transformed the sound of my amp for the better and defiantly left an impression unlike the others. The soundstage is much wider, the highs are airy without being harsh, the bass is deep and more defined and the mids are sublime! This is a great well rounded tube.

Excellent tube. Replaced a JJ ECC82 in my Harman Kardon A-300 stereo amplifier in the phase inverter position. Hard to explain why I prefer the EHX except to say that it "evens-out" and "warms up" the overall SQ. I've always found JJ's too sterile (these came with the reconditioned amp), so no big surprise that I would prefer the EHX, but it was definitely a worthwhile step in upgrading the tube cohort in this particular amp.

I'm using it in a Blackstar HT-5 Metal head, it honestly sounds incredible when it works. Hint, when it works. This tube opened up the top end quite a lot compared to the Ruby that was in it when I got it. It was almost like turning up a presence knob on this amp to my ears. Anyways though despite that this tube has been having some issues with heating up correctly and as such likes to pop and hiss randomly, despite that its an alright tube overall, I just hope that its a burn-in thing and that it'll get better over time.

Garage1217 Project Sunrise and Project Horizon headphone amplifiers allow for almost any 9 pin tube to serve as the voltage gain. Having tried many types and brands, both vintage NOS and current production, the Electro-Harmonix 12BH7 stands out from the rest. It is quiet, open sounding with accurate reproduction, especially notable in the bass. A true find among the plethora of (often expensive) options on the market.

I did a mod on my 2 watt amp, I replace all the Chinese crap tubes. I put this in place of the 12AU7 and it kicks now.

Tube was microphonic right out of the box, this marks the end of my shopping through amazon.

I used this as the phase inverter in my crate stealth 50gt and WOW !! what great tone!! it made my amp sing with harmonics that were not possible before!! awesome little tube!!
