Excellent Technician Support, fuel conversion, runs smoothly, easy assembly
Verified purchase June 2026: Impressed with the design and workmanship of the generator. It was boxed well and easy to disassemble the box and attach the wheels. I put gas and oil in the generator and hit the fob to start and it would not start. After the 3rd attempt to start, I could tell the motor was not getting gas so called the Westinghouse Customer Svc. They explained I would have to first start it with propane gas because sometimes the valve would not switch over from propane to gas. Once I attached propane to the generator and hit the fob, the generator started immediately. The Svc Tech, said to let it run for 5 minutes and stayed on the line with me and then to switch the knob from propane to gas. The motor hesitated a few seconds as he said it would and then ran smoothly on gas. I let the generator run for approx 15 mins as instructed and have no problems with it since. I'm very impressed with the help received from the Westinghouse Technician and they even followed up with me by email that there were no other problems. Based on this alone, I would recommend this generator highly. Of note, we have not experienced a power outage, however, I have run heavy duty power tools to test the generator itself and I am certain with 9500 running watts it will be sufficient to operator anything in my house when we experience a power outage. 5 STARS!

Westinghouse Wgen9500DF generator; very well-made, exceptional performance, a proper warranty.
This Westinghouse generator is a fine example of how a back-up generator should be designed and built. My use is for a whole house back-up generator that will be semi-permanently installed, ready to go at any time (still doing the install). On gasoline, the generator is rated to start heavy loads of up to 12,500 total Watts (52 Amps at 240 Volts). Or, with just over 100 Amps of 120 Volt starting power available, it can start a collection of 120 Volt devices with motors that can take a little extra time to start under load, such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, compressors, etc. This generator has serious creds and can start/run most household combinations of 120V and 240 V loads. This well-made beauty will last for a very long time. In my opinion, the main reason for its conspicuous strong performance is that Westinghouse has designed-in a very strong 18 HP, 457 CC engine which can readily power typical loads that, on startup, exceeds the continuous rating of 9,500/8,500 Watts (gasoline/propane). A great many generator engines will run out of horsepower during electric motor starts, but not the Wgen9500DF. I've not yet tested the generator with propane because my propane plumbing is not yet complete, but with gasoline the engine has been an exceptionally strong performer. Other reviewers of this genset have expressed no problem with propane, so I expect the same. Compared to my earlier unfortunate choice of a Genmax 7250/6000 Watt (starting/running) with appropriate loads, the Westinghouse 9500DF is far ahead in all aspects, from capability to quality. One obvious example of a significant difference is that the 9500DF is rated to deliver full output at up to 5000 ft of elevation without carb adjustments, which should make it an absolute beast of a generator for starting and running max loads in the areas around sea level. An available high- altitude carb kit enables operation above 5000 ft. Compared with the Wgen9500, the Genmax can deliver its specified output power only when below 2000 ft. A "high altitude" kit is required for anything between 2000 ft. and 4800 feet, it's max altitude. I'm at 4000 ft where the 9500DF has significant reserve horsepower and readily starts and runs heavy loads well within its specifications. The quality of Westinghouse generators is well known and thus are recommended by respected consumer organizations. It only helps that I can easily start the 9500DF at all temps between 24 deg F and 89 deg F, and the remote-start fob works 200+ feet away with a good battery installed. The WGen9500DF dual fuel generator is very unlikely to disappoint, especially with respect to the warranty. The Genmax warranty is only for "substantial defects", and they decide what that means. They require that the purchaser pre-pay round-trip shipping of any generator with a problem to their single US repair location for evaluation and possible warranty repair. My Genmax had a dead display out of the box, but the warranty requires that pre-paid shipping before they would inspect and consider whether or not to repair under warranty. Several phone messages were left at their repair center, but no call-back. Later, after I'd already returned the new Genmax (thank you, Amazon!) and had purchased a Westinghouse generator thru Amazon, Genmax finally called and eventually said that they would provide a free replacement display to me if I would fix the brand-new generator myself. No, thanks. The Westinghouse warranty is simple: If the customer provides for reasonable care and use, parts and labor are fully covered for 1 year, and parts-only for 3 years. There are many, many authorized repair stations, so shipping is typically not required. The only thing that bothered me a little, and this is picky, was that the 9500DF user manual had some mistakes. Someone must have converted another manual and missed 3 or 4 items, such as that, on the cover, the genset is said to be a Digital Inverter Generator (I wish), that it has an ECON switch (nice, if it was true), and a couple other nits. When mentioned to customer service, they thanked me and told me that a revised manual was already in the works. All's well that ends well. If you get one of these fine gensets from Westinghouse, you'll not be disappointed. Westinghouse and Honda set the standard for top-quality generators, but Westinghouse wins the price/value comparisons.

A GREAT value for a seriously well-built generator.
Easy to assemble. Rugged frame. Love the Dual Fuel option. Have not tried gasoline but the propane was so easy. It's reasonably quiet for it's size. Replaced a gas only generator, and the exhaust fumes are exponentially less with this one. Primary reason is for back-up power, so having the 240V option was critical.

Great generator
Just purchased. Packaged well, easy setup. I tested it running on propane. It took a little cranking for the initial startup but once it has fuel it ran great. Plugged it into the house to test it out on a load and it worked great. I like the option of running on propane or gas and push button start or using the key fob is a nice feature. It also has a manual pull cord for backup

Works well
Does what it claims. Seems well made but lacks automatic load/speed control. Starts easily with remote control but you still have to turn the power switch on at the generator. The auto start works (transfer unit not included) but is of very limited use. Reasonably compact. Easily repositioned. Loud.

Illinois Westinghouse 12500 Watt Dual Fuel Home Backup Portable Generator
I recently picked up the Westinghouse 12,500-watt dual fuel portable generator, and so far I’m really impressed. It feels solid and well built, and the setup was straightforward thanks to clear instructions. I plan to run it exclusively on propane, mainly to avoid the hassle of storing gasoline and dealing with fuel going bad over time. I also skipped the factory oil and went with 5W-30 full synthetic (4-stroke), since I’m in Illinois and we get a wide range of weather conditions. The remote start works flawlessly, which is a great convenience. I haven’t had a full outage yet to properly test it under load, but that will come. For now, my plan is to run essentials only sump pump, refrigerator, internet/network equipment, and a few lights. I’ll be using extension cords for the time being, keeping it simple and taking it one step at a time. Eventually, I’m looking into integrating this with a load-shedding setup alongside a solar battery backup system, but that’s a future project. Overall, it’s a fantastic generator and exactly what I was looking for.

Great Generator! Plenty of Power! Purchased an "Open Box" item and saved $$$!
My lovely bride and I LOVE to go camping! For 30+ years, we started in tents and then worked our way into a travel trailers. We had a 4,000-watt generator with our first 2 trailers, but our new 31' trailer has the 50 Amp service package with dual A/C units, so we needed more wattage. Enough about us, but this info helps others when comparison shopping, right? The WGen9500DF PROS: For starters, the dual fuel option prevents you from being screwed when the fuel gauge reads empty! Even while running just flip the switch from Gas to LP and this generator won't skip a beat. The push button start/stop fob is nice because it allows you to start the unit before putting on your britches! This way the unit is warmed up and stabilized prior to you plugging in your power cords. Then, when no longer needed, you can unplug the cords and allow the unit to cool down/stabilize before you push the stop button. The digital display is helpful for showing your voltage output, frequency (Hz), a "per use" timer to track how long the units been running and a total life run time hours display to assist with maintenance upkeep. If the power grid ever goes down while we're at the house, this unit will easily cover my power needs. I will have to buy the ST Switch and pay a qualified electrician to tap the switch into my house but what's the first rule for being a Happy Camper? Be Prepared! As for the Cons. If mid 70's decibels seem too loud for you consider this, most RV power cords are 20' long and I carry a 3-sided blind that covers and deflects sound away from my site. The unit will normally run for 2.5 hours and then be off again for 2-3 days until my 2 batteries run down. The unit will average 12 hours on 6.6 gallons of gas. For me that'll be 14 days of wonderful wilderness! Then I'll flip the switch over to propane! As for the weight. This unit weighs 211Lbs. I'm 61 and a "can do" kind of guy. If I need that unit to be somewhere, I can get it there! If I can't, I still remember how to ask someone politely for help. As for the "Open Box" concern you may have, Westinghouse inspects and tests every return so there's no surprises here. I'd include a picture of my unit, but it looks exactly like the pictures on the internet of new units. Funny side note; The unit arrived at my home on time. Sure, Amazon got it to me in 2 days with free shipping. I saved more than $200 over the "new" unit price on Amazon for $999 by buying an open box unit. So, you can imagine my surprise when I arrived home to find my generator on the front porch upside down! (See Photo) ARROWS UP ALWAYS, DUDES!! Not all ways are the same as arrows up! Anyway, I read the manual, applied the wheels, added the oil and followed the prestart procedure and VOILA! I was in my trailer with the A/C running and dreaming about where the wife and I would go next! Hope this helps with your generator shopping! Thanks Westinghouse! Thanks Amazon! Thanks Delivery Dudes! Tim in Sunny Arizona

Fantatic value professional level generator
This generator is not only extremely powerful and can drive my entire home, but the setup/instructions and user friendliness are exceptional. I was easily able to set it up and have it running in 30 mins with all tools, oil, funnel provided. The remote start is a great bonus here in Ontario where -30C is a certainty at some point this Winter. The build quality is superb - heavy duty materials, vcery tidy assembly and no loose fittings (yes I checked). There are only 2 small comments I would make, and 1 is something the manufacturer cannot really address without a lot of expense. The item is shipped without the the wheels or feet attached for understandable reasons, and the buyer must install them. Doing this is extremely simple and takes just a minute or 2, but the generator must be turned onto it's side to do this, and it is a very heavy piece of equipment. I am a 200lb guy and no stranger to the gym and I had no issues with this, but it is something to be aware of - if you are not able to handle heavy weights, you will need assistance to do this. Secondly, the website I ordered from said that the generator came with a spare spark plug, which it did not. Not a big issue. Overall, I am absolutely delighted with this generator and would not hesitate to recommend it

A very well built unit.
Item arrived all in excellent condition. All packed as new. It was easy to assemble, as all instructions were given. Started on second try and runs smoothly. The remote start key fob was already paired for simple and fast operation. I really like all the added features and flexibilities on this unit... Will be a great power unit for my yard and back-up to ease the worry.
