The Hulk comes home
After the tragic events of the spectacular Planet Hulk, Marvel's green goliath returns to Earth with revenge on his mind in World War Hulk. Setting his sights on the ones that tricked him and shot him into space: Tony "Iron Man" Stark, Reed "Mr. Fantastic" Richards, Doctor Strange, and the Black Bolt, the Hulk takes on all those that stand in his way (including the New Avengers, the rest of the Fantastic Four, and more) as he and his Warbound turn New York City (and Madison Square Garden) into a total warzone. While the overall story of World War Hulk is great fun, the story as a whole just feels short. While there are a number of tie-in's to the event (but thankfully not as many as there were with Civil War), the main World War Hulk story just feels like there is a lot missing, especially the involvement of Hercules, who you will find plays a pretty big role in other featured tie-in's. While it isn't the classic that Planet Hulk was, writer Greg Pak still continues to be the best Hulk writer since Peter David (and Bruce Jones to a lesser degree), and the artwork from the great John Romita Jr. and veteran inker Klaus Janson impresses, even in the cataclysmic final battle between the Hulk and the Sentry, which is the comic art equivalent of an exploding sun. All in all, World War Hulk may be too short, but it is an enjoyable Marvel event, and ends up being more satisfying than Civil War ever ended up being.

Great read
This is one of my favorite hulk stories. You really feel for the hulk and the bs the illuminati did to him

Made me a fan of the Hulk
This series is really good. I’m not a huge fan of the Hulk but this trade paperback and Planet Hulk made me a fan. Excellent story, highly recommend it!

The art kills this. The art inside IS NOT the art you see on the cover.
I really wish the artist from planet Hulk came back. This art is so cartoony and not as serious. Every time I start to get into the story the art, again, pulls me out of it. It's like a "Captain Underpants" book. It's HORRIBLE. The heroes are blocky and look like a RoBloks character. The fights are muddled and hard to interpret. The story is decent, no where near planet Hulks story. The art is just flat out bad. Doesn't gel with the atmosphere of the story. I can't stress enough how bad this art is. I had to FORCE myself to finish this book because of this artist John Romita Jr. 🤦♂️ It's laughable.

A real slam-bang, action-packed smackdown
Although it was short (especially in comparison to the year-long "Planet Hulk" epic that preceded it), "World War Hulk" is a very satisfying, action-packed read. This is exactly the kind of story that long-time Hulk fans will love: one by one, Hulk wipes the floor with almost all the other Marvel heros. Been waiting to see the jolly green giant peel Iron Man's armor off like a grape? That's the first big fight. The Avengers, FF, Doctor Strange and others follow. Black Bolt is a mere footnote to the main action. Particularly satisfying is a bare-knuckles smackdown with the Thing that has some of the best action art I've ever seen in a comic: John Romita Jr.'s use of computer-enhanced effects, particularly blurring effects, is stunning, and gives these issues a kinetic texture that we used to have to dream about. I thought this was a completely satisfying action epic. Not sure what the end meant, but I'm ready for the next graphic novel, so I can find out! (Joe Sixpack, ReadThatAgain book reviews)

Histoire super !

Barebones story & art. that's a good thing. Hulk fans should have this book.
Hulk kicks everyone's butt & has a good reason too.

The other best Hulk story ever
From having read Planet Hulk I read this the following day and this story is far more complex with regards to Hulk's character. It is heart breaking and really makes you hate Iron Man, Mr Fantastic and Dr Strange. There is a big question if they caused the 'event' at the end of Planet Hulk but even ignoring that you begin to see all the weak rationalisations for all the horrible things done by the Illuminati and House of M peeled away. This is about Hulk making the world pay. Any Hulk fan knows that the angrier the hulk gets the stronger he gets and he has never been angrier. This is a Hulk of pure rage, even Banner fights when he is forced forward and that just shows how thoroughly this is a story about loss. The Hulk never comes across as unfair, only willing to bring back what they caused him. There is a question of if he is bringing his rage to others unduly but when it comes down to it all the characters on Hulk's side know that 1. many of the marvel heroes deserve it for something they have done and 2. they are going to be damned no matter what but they are with the Hulk because he deserves his revenge. It all ends in the epic showdown of Hulk vs Sentry which has to be read to be believed, in a seriously good way. This is an excellent comic and is very sad. I would have liked to see the 'event' at the end of Planet Hulk not happen all together but que sera. the last few comics are what ifs if things had gone different ways and they are interesting to see almost the road of good intentions and what the Hulk is to others.

Must Have
World War Hulk is a must have for any comic fan. The Hulk is very very very angry and Greg Pak’s writing never lets us forget just how annoyed the Hulk really is. Hulk is after Tony Stark, Reed Richards, Black Bolt, and Dr. Strange. How can it get any better? It is a fun ride with much smashing.
