The tone is conversational and you donโt need to spend a lot of time trying to decipher complex sentences when reading it (looking at you physics textbooks). Inevitably while learning to code, you will end up googling something that stumps you and you will have your mind blown on StackExchange by opposing terminology or someone who isnโt using that same constructors that this book uses, it would be helpful to have little asides in the book that says โyou might see it this way when you Google itโ Review: Computer science required text book - Our son is finishing 11th & 12th grade, via Olympic College, through South Kitsap High. Heโs heavily interested in computer programming, and he claims this text book offers a challenging and very detailed information, which is making it sincerely FUN for him.

Fantastic for Beginners
I learned Java from this book in a two-semester series at a college. I loved it. I wish it had more case studies and was hardback but it will be staying in my collection.

A comprehensive book, difficult if you are self taught.
This book covers everything. I would say it is hard to understand if you are a beginner teaching yourself.

Best CSC Fundamentals Java Book!
Required for my CSC class, but this book hands down is the best resource to quickly immerse yourself in Java along with core CSC concepts. Your learning will progress faster than ever utilizing this resource. Also, make sure to use the companion website "Practice It" for programming exercises (it's 100% free). Highly recommend: 10/10

Three Stars
I purchased this textbook to compliment a recent endeavor into programming. I'm a fan of Mr. Reges' and an alma mater at his university, but this text doesn't escape the typical hallmarks of a college textbook. It is too expensive, and yet the paper is very low quality. I think I know what happened here. Rather than rant about the economics at play with respect to the publisher, I'll simply state that I'd rather go to the DMV than log into the accompanying web application. Three stars because it otherwise contains information that I need, and struggled to access outside of a credible academic resource.

Crease on the cover
There is a vertical crease in the middle of the book cover. It looks like someone accidentally folded the first 60 pages together before it came. Come on. It's a $150 book. I'm so disappointed!
