Good filters
It's interesting to see how much stuff is trapped in the white filter. We have "city" water and these filters catch a bunch of particles that make me worried about the water we were using before we got these. I have 2 of them in a series on the main water line. I use a "white" filter on the first one and a carbon filter on the 2nd one. IMO they are not super easy to install. You need to buy a few more parts to install them. I used pex connections. They do need to be firmly attached to a wall using the included bracket. When you replace filters, there is a special wrench (included) that you need to switch the water line to bypass the filter. The same wrench also removes the filter compartment. I have to use a lot of torque to get these off. There is a thin gasket (oh-ring) that you have to use or they will leak / drip. It's included, but I made the mistake of losing it once and had drips. They also sell these rings separately. I have also used these on well water and they trapped a lot of sediment! I suggest buying extra filters.

High Quality water filter features
We bought this AO Smith whole house water filter after our extensive search on our favorite supplier website, Amazon. We were looking for a water filter that had a high quality filter abilities, off, bypass, and filter adjustments, as well a highly competent 3/4 inch filter “in and out” threads. This filter has metal inserts, which were highly important to us after having read so many reviews demonstrating most of the other brand filters with 3/4” plastic treading usually leaked according to many reviews. Why buy something right off the bat that has build in flaws like a leaking from in and out soft plastic threads. We have the new AO Smith filter that we just received and haven’t installed it yet. The included photos of our pump house setup for a rain catchment tank in Hawaii is still under daily use. That filter has plastic threads and Does Not leak, but we opted for a new filter after several years, because our filter o-ring was a problem. Keep in mind too, not only does the AO Smith water filter have water line metal thread inserts, it also has a unique o-ring placement that looks great in the top of the high tempered, plastic screw off, filter containment chamber. I believe the O-ring has the good possibility of not giving us the trouble as compared to the o-ring we have now that sits up in the filter upper housing. Time can only tell what’s what’s once we get the new water filter installed. I’ll try to update this review with any pros or cons once the new filter is in operation a reasonable amount of time. In the meantime, I suggest you carefully compare as I did before quickly buying a water filter. It is important to be an informed buyer. There are so many water filters on Amazon, but we think we may have bought the best one for our purpose. We do know the AOSmith filter has those real important features I mentioned that are a must in a filter. Having taken the new AO Smith filter out of the box as soon as we got it, we were very impressed over the high quality appearance of this filter it presented. We considered too the AO Smith name, a long standing reputable company name.

+Has metal connectors, -1/2 inch ports, shutoff and +bypass on handle.
+ Has metal female thread connectors vs solid plastic threading. Has shut off, bypass and thru filter selection on handle. - reduces water flow thru less than 1/2 inch ports. & the bracket is weak so I used oversized washers to bolster it. fyi:I added a water regulator (on 3/4 inch copper lines) so psi is less but workable. Used 1807 astm pipe and parts (the most common size). Shark uses its own pex size for crimping. I avoided it. Their product is good, but I chose a more universal size-1807 astm. I set up a manual bypass of filter system in case of a quicha event. The Lower connection w the 1/2 inch white pex is for flushing filter when new or when the water company sends excess debris when working on street lines. Not necessary if you flush out to connected exterior faucet. Using pex w crimps was a joy. (vs soldering) You can still rotate pipe after crimping. I'll let you know how the filter works in a few months...maybe. The sediment filter dropped the hard water count by about 10%. Less junk for my kidneys. (the carbon filter on the fridge also reduced the hard water count)

Above average construction
Unlike many filter units this unit has stainless steel inserts for the pipes to screw into. Many with plastic threads become loose over time and develop slow leaks, that shouldn't be the case with this unit.

Good quality
Plumbed in nicely with PEX adapter. I like the clear housing to check filter status. SS threaded inserts are nice. No leaks.
