the book was recommended to me and is as good as she said. It has everything a beginner or expert of crochet could possibly want!

So much to learn easily here . This book came in without damage,in perfect condition. The colors on the book are lovely. This book has and is so useful for me. It has helped me out so much,that I am crocheting more then I usually am. Lots of neat stitches here. All of you chrocheter's out there will enjoy this book.

Vielleicht ist das buch für anfänger hilfreich, ich hatte mir mehr erwartet.Die Anleitungen sind gut und leicht verständlich (mit diagrammen) dargestellt, schön fotografiert ist es auch alles... allein, mir fehlt die vielfalt. Alles in allem fand ich das buch eher langweilig. mit ein wenig internetrecherche hat man rasch eine sehr viel bessere, spannendere Sammlung.

I was a little hesitant to purchase this book because the price seemed a little steep, but I'm beyond happy that I did. As with most crochet books, it begins with the basics -- information about the necessary items (hooks, varns, etc.) and a description of how to start a chain and do basic stitches (pictures are included which will be very helpful for people new to the craft). There is also a concise section on techniques and stitch variations.Before getting into the actual stitches, there is a "stitch selector" which is a fantastic idea. It's just a few pages with little pictures of each stitch so that you can visually pick one if need be. This is extremely helpful if you're designing your own patterns.The stitches themselves are organized by type (i.e. basic, textured, openwork and lace), and the author also includes sections on edgings, multi-color patterns, granny squares, and appliqués. Stitch diagrams are included which are useful for visualizing how the stitches fit together in a pattern, and a key guide on the right side of each page shows which stitches are included in the pattern. Swatches and instructions are obviously offered as well. The book ends with a section on abbreviations and symbols and an index.The book is spiral-bound so you can flip to any page and it will stay open. Another very cool thing about this book is that it includes a few stitches that I had never encountered before. I even Googled a few, and the only sites that came up were ones about this book!As most who crochet know, having an easy-to-use reference for stitches is an invaluable resource. I've been racking my brain trying to think of a negative aspect to this book, and I honestly can't think of one. Tabbed dividers (like the ones used in binders) would've been a nice addition, but the book is easy enough to navigate without them. All in all, this is probably the best crochet reference book I've ever used, and I'd highly recommend it.

The Crochet Stitch Bible provides examples and basics for making 200+ stitches. In addition, there are instructions for a few briefly-described crochet techniques included in the first part of the book though nothing in-depth for the absolute beginner. It is helpful for identifying stitches I've seen and don't know the name of or that I want to try when creating my own projects. I like the spiral binding so it can be opened to a page and lie flat for easy reference.Update: I just received The Complete Photo Guide to Crochet. It is larger, and the photos are large, clear, colorful and much easier to see than the small pale images in The Crochet Bible. I'm a visual learner with aging eyes so that works better for me. Coverage of other crochet techniques is better in the Photo Guide too. If only it were spiral bound.The Crochet Stitch Bible and The Complete Photo Guide to Crochet together are a sound basis for a crochet stitch library. There is of course some overlap, and a few stitches are the same but go by different names in the different books. It's handy to have both.

This is a very good reference book and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in crochet, but particularly to anyone with some basic experience who is looking for patterns to use in their own projects.PROS:The book starts with instructions for how to do all the basic stitches, as well as other basic tips and tricks such as how to hold the hook and how to start and finish a piece. Even though it does contain this introductory information, I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner simply because it doesn't give you much guidance on how to put together an entire project.The remainder of the book contains detailed instructions for about two hundred different patterns, including squares, shapes and edgings. (By patterns, I mean ways to put stitches together to create interesting textures, not patterns to put together an entire afghan or sweater.) The patterns are grouped together in a logical order, and with the index in the front it is very easy to find what you are looking for. The instructions use fairly standard abbreviations and repeats, with a helpful stitch key on each page and a glossary in the back. The diagrams are very clear and easy to follow.CONS (minor):The book does not contain many patterns for squares, although I've seen other books devoted to squares if that's what you're interested in.It is sometimes difficult to get a sense for how the stitches will look from the included pictures, but to fix this problem I think they would have to have much bigger pictures, and I think that smaller pictures were a reasonable trade off for a relatively compact book.I left off one star because of the above comments, as well as because (1) with the spiral binding it is sometimes difficult to turn the pages and (2) for a book that bills itself as a "bible" and "essential reference" I think it could have included more on joining, making patterns, and other larger-scale issues.One note about Amazon - my book came with multiple pages missing from the middle (how random!), and Amazon sent me a replacement right away with no hassles.

Not only does this book provide exceptional guidance in basics, but also has content for the more advanced crocheter. Stitch guides, motifs, joining. . . it's all there.Even better, the book is spiral bound which makes it lay flat and therefore, easy to search and read. All instructional guides should be spiral bound

I have just started taking crochet lessons and this book was recommended by my instructor as a good resource book. She was so right. Even as a beginner, I have found this book easy to use and loaded with information to help me learn to crochet as well as information to help me grow my skills. This book as easy to follow directions and those all important pictures so this very visual girl can see what she should be doing. Not ready quite yet, but there is also a very extensive section with all the "fancy" stitches that will allow me to learn on my own once I am ready. This last is probably one of the most important features - inside that very sturdy cover are spiral bound pages - yes spiral - this means I can open it to the page I need and not worry about the pages flipping closed. Lays flat and on the page I am using until I am ready to move. I would recommend this book for ALL who want an all inclusive, easy to use reference book for crocheting.

WOW!!! that is all I can say. This book is the coolest. It has tons of stitches. It lays flat when you are using it(thanks to the spiral binding) it is big enough to read the print but small enough to fit in my tote for travel. I love that they have a finished picture along with written directions and a diagram of how the stitches are done. (there is a cool legend in the corner that tells what each picture on the diagram is) I love that there are NO patterns to follow in this book. You can play with the stitches and create your own stuff. I have only had this book for 4 days and I have already learned 8 new stitches. I have been crocheting off and on for 20 years. I only knew how to do single stitches, double stitches, and granny squares. Now I can do ripples and fans, and popcorns. No matter if you are a beginner or an advanced crocheter, you need this book. I have a bunch of books but I have to say that this one will be the one I keep out at all times. You really need to BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

I love this book, everyone should have a copy in their crochet library! I like it for several reasons:1) It has no required skill level - it is good for beginning or experienced crocheters.2) It is spiral bound, pages are easy to turn and it lies flat.3) It will teach you odd stiches and patterns that are beautiful, but not used that often.4) The stich patterns feature a picture of what a crocheted block looks like, along with a stitch chart and detailed instructions.5) Over 200 patterns including basic stitches, textured stitches, fans and shells, mesh and filet stitches, openwork and lace stitches, trims and edgings, clusters, puffs and bobbles, spike stiches, relief stiches, tunisian stiches, multi-color patterns, squares, shapes and motifs, and special stiches in the stich collection.Now this book does not have any projects to complete...it is a reference book. Use it to practice a new stitch by making a scarf, add a special motif to a sweater, etc. It is one of the best crochet reference books out there.

I just received this book today and have been looking through it for the last 3 hours. The instructions for the stitches are illustrated very clearly. The pictures are beautiful but could be a little larger for us older people. I can’t wait to get started on some new scarfs!!!!

There are 200 crochet stitches in this spiral bound book which makes it easy to use while crocheting. Useful index with all the stitches by name. Each stitch has illustration, instructions and chart with international symbols. Also a stitch key on right side of every odd numbered page which means you can read the charts as the symbols are right there. Stitches are grouped into broad categories such as mesh and filet. Also more details in back about the symbols and abbreviations. The terms are American with a comparison to the English in the back. My one criticism is that the actual pictures of the stitches are very dull and small when more colors would certainly have brightened up the book. Hopefully Barnden will be persuaded to bring out a second volume with more stitches. Very useful important addition to the growing crochet stitch collection.

The bible is great and am so glad they included charts for all the stitches. I just wish they hadn't used the yarn they chose for the pictures. I think a yarn with less sheen would have given better photo results to see the actual patterns a little better. I buy any stitch bible that comes out and this is one of the better ones. If you had to buy only one, I think most people would be happiest with this one for it's binding (spiral binding that lays flat), written and charted instructions, and wide variety of stitches.
