Klein Tools ET140 Pinless Moisture Meter, Detects up to 3/4-Inch Deep

This pinless meter scans up to 3/4 inch below the surface without poking holes in your drywall, which was exactly what I needed to track down a slow leak without causing more damage in the process. Seems to work well and readings are reasonable. No, this is not nist-certified but Im not using this for paid professional purposes. I used it to verify that my packages of New wood flooring had acclimated to the house, and that humidity levels of New flooring was within a couple percentage points of the underlayment in the room. The $50 paid for this tool guaranteed that $1000 worth of flooring was ready to install. Get that step wrong and you could have a floor that buckles or shrinks! Money well spent.

It is a good moisture meter, as precise as the needle one.

I’ve had a pin moisture meter for years and wanted something to not leave holes anymore. For $50 you expect only so much, and it works decent. Would recommend calibrating it with another moisture meter to know the accuracy. From what I’m seeing, the hard wood setting is not very accurate and registering several points low when I compare it to my pin meter. The soft wood setting is much more accurate. Mahogany, pine, oak, rosewood, etc all seem to register more accurate on the soft wood setting. Also important to press down a little firmer as you hold the edges of the sensor and it seems more accurate. I wish you didn’t have to cycle through masonry, drywall and hardwood to get to soft wood setting.

Not perfect but works as close enough to a professional model for the regular person. Very helpful tool for tracing possible leaks and for home inspections.

Needed a moisture meter for a leak in my roof that was affecting my living room ceiling, worked great to get a measure in the moisture level.

I just got this. I have a full basement and while the walls appear dry I've always wanted a reasonably priced moisture meter to stay on top of things. I also plan to use it to monitor my boat. I know that it isn't intended for fiberglass but in at least one review I saw that it can be used as a relative check. Find a place that you know is dry and see what the baseline reading is. Then compare that to other areas in the boat. I haven't tried it on the boat yet but I have tried it on the walls in my basement. I like the fact it is light weight, easy to use, has a hold button and the price is great. Klein tools have always been very good to me.

Ne convient pas pour un mur en stepoc ou béton armé. Les barres en métal faussent la lecture du taux d'humidité. Etant donné que le métal est très conducteur, il considère que le mur est très humide. Déçu.

I don't know how this tool works, but it's magic. It is very easy to use and causes no damage to the surface being tested. The hardest part of using this tool is finding a flat surface that fits the entire unit. Most of the time that's not a big deal because floors, walls, wooden boards etc. are pretty flat. My challenge was with crown mouldings. The sensor is a small patch on the back of the meter, but to get the sensor to lie flat on the wall you need the entire unit to lie flat. Fortunately this is easier to use than a stud sensor because you just need to find some orientation that gets a portion of the sensor into contact with your surface of interest. In addition, you can see the readout change as you approach the surface so you can tell how well you are doing. Measuring the moisture level of a dry area helps to determine if you are getting good enough contact to the region of interest. For my need this was much better than a pin type meter because it did not drive any holes or pinpricks into the surface of my walls. Because it causes no damage I was able to test many areas to determine what dry was before getting to the area of concern. I definitely would not have done that if it meant putting little holes into the wall.

De få negativa aspekterna är att den är svår att fuktmäta hörnor med och att den oftast visar maxresultatet 100%. Det är sällan man får resultat mellan exempelvis 45% och 99%. Antingen blir det ett lågt resultat eller också springer mätaren till max, trots att man bara rör den några centimeter på väggen. Står inget om det i instruktionerna men den mäter också fukt genom laminatgolv. Ytterligare ett plus är att den är billig.
