Great EDC Knife, Excellent for Kayaking, and LIFETIME WARRANTY!
UPDATE (5/23/2018) UPGRADED TO 5-STARS: I have owned this knife for almost 5 years now. My preferred EDC at the time was the following: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00322HR2C/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It is a good knife that I still own today and still carry from time to time; however, after carrying both knives for a short time, the Gerber quickly became my favorite. It is a bit smaller, just as sharp and useful as the Cold Steel, but it has a better feel to it... a bit heavier, and sturdy, not that the Cold Steel isn't sturdy. The CS just feels really light for what it is, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Note that I'm an avid kayaker, and this knife has been in and out the water (fresh water) throughout the years, with no issues. In my original review (see below), I made mention of the one-handed opening operation to be a bit rough. It has since broken in, and has not been an issue for years. It took maybe a year of EDC and usage, but even though it can snap open easily with just one hand, the blade is still tight. After almost 5 years, however, the pocket clip just got so worn out from using it every day, that it began failing to hold the knife to my pocket. It would come loose and either fall off and into my pocket from bending over throughout the day or just falling out onto the floor. The Gerber carries a LIFETIME WARRANTY, so I figured I'd put in a request to see if the clip was covered. Within 12 hrs of submitting a claim on their web site, I received an email confirmation with tracking number for the replacement clip. AMAZING!!!! I didn't expect as much as a response or at most a "sorry, not covered" message, but I was pleasantly surprised! Gerber stands behind their products, and they respond quickly! UPGRADE TO 5 STARS! =================================================================== ORIGINAL REVIEW (2013-2014) 4-STAR REVIEW: I use this knife as my safety knife for kayaking, so this is the context of my review. * The BLADE is comparable to any other knife I've owned; sharp and strong. * The LOCKING MECHANISM is good. When engaged, the blade will lock, similar to other knives with the same mechanism. It uses a tension bar that automatically slides to the right to lock the blade in the open position. The fold the blade into a closed position, you need to manually slide the tension bar to the side so that the knife can fold. I have no clue if this is better or worse than traditional buck-knife style locking mechanisms. * The CLIP is great for clipping onto your pant pocket for every day use; tight enough to not slip out, but not so tight that it's difficult to slide on or off. * The HANDLE is comfortable for my (medium sized) hands. My observations about the knife: One-hand operation (opening/closing the knife) is possible, but not easy. There is a thumb tab to push on, but either the angle or the tightness of the blade doesn't allow a quick wrist snap + thumb pressure to open the knife. I also tried silicon spray to see if this helps but in my case, it did not. Two hands, there is no problem, but in a quick emergency situation where one hand is ideal, this knife wouldn't be my first choice. Perhaps after some wear, the blade will open much more smoothly, but as of now, quick one hand operation is not so simple. This is the main reason for dropping 1 star as I feel that this is the most important feature for a knife for MY USE. Closing the blade is pretty simple when you understand how the locking mechanism works. When holding the knife with blade open, I slip my index finger through the hole and it's very comfortable. Even gives me a sense of comfort knowing that the knife won't slip. I actually love this feature about the knife. The CLIP is not strong enough to remain on my PFD's lash tab. I understand that it wasn't designed for that, but it would have been ideal for my use if it were, but if that were the case, it wouldn't be so great when just clipping to your pant pocket. No issues when wearing in my pant pocket as it comes out of the box. I use a caribiner to hold the knife to my PDF. It just clips into the large finger hole and the blade can still open/close with the carabiner on. All around, it's a good knife, but I would try something else if you're looking for a quicker one-hand operating knife. Like I said, in time, the blade may open quicker/easier, but out of the box and after a month of use, it's still tough. The hole is a great feature for putting your finger through while the blade is open to ensure (or at the least, give you peace of mind) that the handle will not slip out of your hand.

My GO TO knife
I own a few knives (My wife would say a lot). I love knives, I have knives for every foreseeable project you can think of with a knife. Gerber knives are high on my list for everyday use and I keep one in my pocket at all times. The Gerber Remix Tactical model is my favorite pocket knife. Durable stainless steel and the finger/axe hole for a secure hold. The tanto blade is a striking feature I like in a tactical knife. Weight is well balance and a solid composite handle well suited for medium to large size hands. Pocket clip keeps my knife secure and a plus with smooth and serrated edge. This is an affordable knife that is well suited for rescuing kids from cowboy Bob knots and self defense.

Sturdy and well made
Had one of these for a while but recently lost it so I had to get a new one. I have to say it is worth the price, it is extremely comfortable, rust resistant, and its easy to use due to the light weight but sturdy metal. I like to keep the knife hanging out the side of my pocket its not to long and fits just right.

Great knife. Received compliments on it and wear it every day.
This feels well made and I am very happy with it after weeks of use. When i broke this out to help open Christmas present boxes I got a few compliments on it from the guys in the room... didn't expect that, but if another guy is giving you an unsolicited compliment on a knife it must look pretty mean. I carry this everyday for utility use and I like it better than my last similarly setup Gerber that disappeared. This has a flat tip, which my last one didn't, but it fine for me. The serrated edge is a definite upgrade for me. My only criticism is that the open process is a little tight, so you need some serious torque to one-hand snap this open.

A near perfect everyday knife.
This knife has made me veeeeeery picky when it comes to pocket knives. Between the overall craftsmanship, keen edge, and unique handle, if you're looking for something with both form and function, this is the last knife you'll ever own. It's not quite perfect, but with Gerber's lifetime guarantee, it's pretty darn close. The one major problem I had with it when I bought my first one was that the belt clip ended up breaking a couple months after purchase. I called their hotline and they sent a new one out to me pronto. I installed it and it worked well for years. After years of rough treatment, the blade still held an edge better than any other knife I owned. The big problem, again was the belt clip. It was bending out of place, so I removed it, bent it back in place, bit I accidentally overtighten one of the retaining screws and snapped the head off. Between that and the bent tip (I've dropped it more than a dozen times and it only got a slight dent on the blade tip), I decided to buy a new one and will gladly use it for years to come. Plus it's super fun to spin around.

It's an OK knife, but not a 5 Star knife.
This is a light weight knife, literally light weight, and intended for light duty use. I'm sure the "Tactical" mention is purely a marketing gimmick for Tacticool shoppers because I don't think it's heavy duty enough for any type of tactical application. As a light duty knife it's fairly good. It looks pretty cool and the finger hole gives you a safe grip. It is still only a $30 dollar knife and you can tell that when you hold it in your hand. I carry it when I don't want the weight or need the durability of a heavier duty knife and it works fine that way. I would not consider this a good candidate as a self defense knife because of how difficult it is to open. The body of the knife is only 3/8" thick and the spine of the blade is 1.5/16" thick. The design of the folding mechanism makes it difficult to flick open with one hand because the blade rotates around the whole of circular finger grip. That's just a lot of friction involved, it's not a single point pivot. A little gun oil will help, but not very much. If you unseat the blade by pressing the thumb tab out with your thumb then give the knife a hearty flick, you can definitely open it with one hand. Very difficult, though, to close with one hand. Depending on the size of your hand, it might be impossible and require you to press it against your leg or something to close one handed. It will not flick closed. I don't fault the knife for this, that's just the price you pay for the fancy finger grip design and it's probably why you don't see many knives like this. I would rate it higher if it weren't so obvious that it were made in China, but at $30 I wouldn't say you're overpaying for what you get. For comparison, I will mention that for $30 you can also pick up the Kershaw Ken Onion, which has a smaller body, but the blades are the same length. It is equally useful for light daily/duty use and has a much better mechanism. It also has a better rating among users and Kershaw customer service is highly regarded. http://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-Onion-Folding-Knife-Speed/dp/B0009VC9Y0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350947563&sr=8-1&keywords=kershaw
