Great cables, worked better than expected
This works great, and even better than the Seagate ones which cost $30+. I work in an IT department where we do a lot of laptop data transfers, both from 2.5" Sata and the 1.8" Micro Sata. For the Micro Sata, I've had to use Micro SATA Cables connected to more conventional Sata connectors, the ones with external power etc. I've tried to use them with the seagate ones I had as extras and they didn't work. We purchased one of these to test if it would work with our 2.5", as these are more convenient, and lo and behold, they work with the Micro Sata converter as well! Definitely a plus I wasn't expecting. Very recommended.

does NOT work with Toshiba Laptops! (And possibily all laptops)
What I was using it for: I needed to clone my old hhd (that is still in my in my laptop) to a new ssd (that I tethered to the laptop from this adapter). What I did: I bought a Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5-Inch SATA III drive and this Kingwin USB 2.0 to SATA Adapter and used the Samsung cloning software included with the ssd drive to clone the drive. What happened. :( The ssd drive started to accept the data for about a minute or so, then the program froze on me. I had to power the laptop off to regain control of the laptop. Thinking that I did something wrong, I read the manual and followed the manual to the letter and started the process over with high hopes. The second time it stopped again 1 min into the cloning process. Frustrated, I uninstalled my antivirus, internet, and other background running programs. The third time I tried it, it failed again. (1 Min into it each time) Each time it failed, I had to restart the laptop, power the laptop down normally, then restart the laptop with the Kingwin USB 2.0 to SATA Adapter unplugged. then plug the adapter back in start over. Very time consuming. I took me most of 3-4 hours of pulling my hair out for this part. Then I tried everything over again on my tower computer, and had the same issues. The second day I downloaded a new cloning software off the net and tried using it. (once again, a few hours of researching different software, reading reviews, and learning how to use the software. Once again, it froze up about 1 min into the process with errors. And I tried it a few times and had the same errors every time. The third day, I downloaded a hard drive erasing software and tried to write zeros the ssd drive hoping to get a fresh start and try things again. I couldn't write zeroes the drive due to errors I was getting, I finally RMA'ed both the ssd and this adapter back to amazon thinking the ssd drive was the issue possibly. I got a new sata adapter called Sabrent USB 2.0 TO SATA/IDE 2.5/3.5/-INCH Hard Drive Converter With Power Supply & LED Activity Lights (EC-AHDD). and a new ssd drive in 2 days. (I heart Amazon). and hadn't even had time to send the old ssd that I was returning back, so I decided to the do some testing with it. I plugged the old ssd drive into the new adapter and used the cloning software that I had tried on the first night and BLAM! the ssd works just fine with the new Sabrent adapter on the first try, and I didn't have to do anything special. Exactly what I wanted. Conclusion: This $12.99 cheapo adapter cost me nearly 12 hours of troubleshooting and nonsense because it dosent work for what I needed. Get the Sabrent USB 2.0 TO SATA/IDE 2.5/3.5/-INCH Hard Drive Converter With Power Supply & LED Activity Lights (EC-AHDD) and save yourself a ton of headaches and time.

Great Interface
I bought this to use with an SSD in my Jeep Wrangler. Worked perfect out of the package, no special drivers to install or anything like that. Too bad my Wrangler's USB interface is impossibly picky with devices, otherwise this would have been perfect for it. Now I use it on my TV to play digital movies... still works great. I took off one star because of a slight design issue. You have to be careful porting this thing around because the body of the device doesn't sit flush with the hard drive. Only the SATA interface and power interface touch, nothing else. No extra power adaptor needed. FYI - this will not work with 3.5" drives, only 2.5" "notebook" drives.

Worked as Hoped
The SSD drive I bought came in two versions: just the drive, or a "kit" that contained a bunch of stuff I didn't care about - except for an adapter to simplify mirroring my old drive onto the new one. I looked around and found this guy. I just plugged it into my drive, and then used the USB cable to plug the drive into my computer. Windows 7 figured things out within a few seconds, and I was able to use mirroring software without issue. Great for the price and ease of use (don't have to mess with external bays for temporary usage).

Doesn't seem to work?
This was a great price for what I needed, however when I tried it on several different SATA hard drives it did not work despite the red light working. I plug the hard drives in directly using an internal computer cable and they work so I know it is this product that does not work.

Best SATA Adapter for SSD's
Based on the ratings, I selected this adapter over the rest. Right away the drive connected with ease, my SSD was recognized right away on my macbook. The reason I purchased this adapter was due to a recent purchase of the Samsung Pro 840 256 GB SSD. I can attest to that this adapter will work on the Samsung Pro 840 drives. You don't have to put a lot of thought into this one…just purchase it!

Learned a lot about using the old .cmd program to set up a drive
There was something horribly wrong with the unit I received. It refused to be initialized or formatted not matter what I did. After many different attempts and using different .cmd instructions and sequences, I finally got the unit to be recognized by my win 7 computer. I was trying to use a Crucial 240 MB SSD as a USB auxiliary drive. So when I finally got that far, all the files I tried to transfer to the SSD were corrupted and would not open. Tried it with a win 10 computer with same results. So ordered a cheaper Sabrent unit and had it running 5 minutes after opening the box. Worked with win 7 and win 10 computers. Looks like some of the Kingwin adapters might work but mine sure didn't. No more Kingwin products for me. This thing isn't even worth the trouble of getting a refund.

Very slow to receive part
Finally got the part and works as should. This took way too long to get shipped to me.

Inconsistent device compatibility.
Seems inconsistent. Unable to read via Wii U. USB port but worked fine for my PC and other devices. Other USB-Sata adapters do not have trouble with my Wii U.
