Merry Pet MPS002 Wood Room with a View Pet House

We took a chance on the Merry Pet after looking at several versions of this particular pet house. We were purchasing it for an outdoor kitty that has adopted us and becoming less feral every day. And we are very glad we chose this model. - Choose the stained unit versus the raw wood version. The other manufacturer makes one that is thinner wood and not stained - This shipped very well, tightly packed. Styrofoam blocks protect each piece, and there is a life's supply of bubble wrap around each piece - No splits, frays, corner damage or dent marks - Other than an extra hand to hold up one piece while attaching to another, one person can assemble the house - All assembly parts are included, except for tools - When assembled, the only odor was strong cedar and residual wood stain (expected) - Even though measurements are provided, I had a sense that it would be big - very pleased that it was just right for ONE cat to use - The top (without stairs) allows a single bath towel doubled over to cover all four corners (puts it in perspective) It will be used outdoors on our deck that has about a 3-4 foot overhang (farther out than most roof overhangs). It's cedar and looks like it will do just fine outdoors, weather and all. For the price, a few years will pay for itself. Drilling a hole in the bag for an electrical cord to heat the kitty warming blanket during cold weather (we are in Florida; hot humid summers, winters average 30-40 degrees on coldest days). It can be re-stained if desired, which will add years to the life of the house. The stairs will remain, mostly because "mama" thinks they are too cute. No cat will ever use them! My cat can reach the top level standing on the ground. My indoor cat, around 14 pounds, immediately jumped up and laid on the towel the first night, and stayed the rest of the evening. It comes down to which make and model you purchase, I believe. We looked at the unfinished version that was a few dollars less and the wood looks thinner and vulnerable to damage just during the construction process. This model looks like it was constructed better. We'll see how long the kitty uses it, but during the windy cold days, this offers shelter from the biting cold that we want to shelter him from. I don't know about dogs, but in general, even small dogs are bigger than the average cat. There's only room for resting with no space for dishes or extra kitty enticements or even a second kitty. Just use household materials for bedding to get them acclimated first. Add store bought pads or pillows later. We love this and may get another one for the one that took to it right away. A great purchase for a great price.

Easy to assemble! Might need an electric screw driver for faster assembly but the pieces were easy to put together(pretty obvious what belonged with what) and it was ready in 30 minutes! Take the parts out, match them up, match the screws up to the holes where they belong, tighten them, and you're done. Made from real wood which makes it sturdy, and a nice piece of furniture that compliments your house for your pup. My only complaint is the super narrow staircase.. I'm convinced that the stairs were made only for a cat. If your dog doesn't have problems jumping up onto high platforms then the staircase won't be an issue. All it takes is a big leap for my dog, as if he were to jump on our couch or the bed. Carmelo is 21 pounds and has a super long body and he fits perfectly in the top of the castle, unfortunately the bottom scares him a bit. BUT, since he loves it so much it gets 5 stars anyway. My boyfriend calls this thing his(our pup's) castle and he melts every time he comes home and sees how cute he looks in the window sleeping in the top floor of his castle. Like Macy's around Christmas time and the puppies in the window sleeping soundly. It was a HIT, for our little one. Again, Dog owners, beware of the narrow staircase. The same seller sells separate staircases that fit perfectly if you are specifically concerned about the stairs.

It's a good bargain as an indoor pet house for a small dog . The construction is decent and sturdy, assembly is easy and it's a pretty little pet house to look at. For less than $ 70 I think it's a steal. I do have a couple of chips on one of the pet houses that I bought but they are minor. That been said, I don't have dogs. I bought this for my adopted feral cats outdoor since the product also markets as outdoor use. The delivery is prompt, with a week, and I'm very happy with the seller Plumstruck's customer service which was efficient and courteous. ( I contacted them concerning the shipping date and they shipped out the product the same day.) However, if you're going to use this for cat shelters, you might need to caulk the walls and floor for insulation because it's not insulated for storms or snow. Applying waterproof wood stain to weather the elements is also wise. Also the door is too wide and other large animals like raccoon might go in and chase your cats away. It also lacks an escape back door. From my experience, my feral cats won't go in any shelter that doesn't have a back door to escape when other cats or animals try to get in as well. But it's not the manufacturer's fault. This product is not marketed for a cat shelter. But since it said it can be used outdoor I thought it would be a good bargain for cat shelters if I made a few alternations and improvements. It might still work. If it doesn't, I'll put them out for the cats to just hang out and chill. They will be pretty among the flowers and grass. My husband stacked the two pet houses together last night and I like it even better that way. For the product itself with its indoor use purpose I'll give it 5 stars, specially for this price. With the outdoor use purpose, I'll take away one star because you need to caulk the walls and waterproof it. Overall, a pretty and sturdy indoor pet house for small pets. With some improvements, it can be a pretty functional and cute pet house outdoor too.

Lets start from the beginning. 1. Packaging was great. It came in it's original box, it was not put into another box for shipping. When I opened it, I was pleased to find that it was very well wrapped. I could have dropped this item a 100 times and I am certain that all contents would remain fully intact. 2. Unwrapping it was pretty easy. Used a pair of scissors to cut threw the cellophane. 3. Instructs were easy peasy. All you need it a screw driver. 4. Actual assembly was a breeze. 5. Quality of the product was great. It is made out of cedar. 6. Size is just right. I have an 8lb dog and it's big enough for him, yet small enough to make him feel secure. You could put 2 small dogs on the top of it comfortably. 7. You will need to put a blanket on top and on the inside because otherwise the dog would be laying on the wood. 8. My dog loves it. It took some time for him to get comfortable with the stairs. They are a bit narrow and he appeared to be afraid that he would fall off. I ended up taking a piece of cardboard and taping it to the side of the stairs so that he felt he wouldn't fall off the side. As soon as he got comfortable going up and down and didn't feel like he was going to fall, I was able to remove it. I would recommend this product. It's fashionable and cute!

Arrived quickly. However noticed this while assembling: The house is built from cedar and something else (for color, I guess) with a strange odor (not cedar like) - and within 2 hours of touching it, ANYWhERE that it had touched me during assembly-- my hands, arm, leg, etc -- I have severe itching and hives. Like driving you nuts severe itching and bright red irritation and hives, ugly hives!!! Something has been treated into the wood on the little house that i am super allergic to. I was up most of the night itching, even after taking a double dose of benadryl! Secondly, The stairs for it could only accommodate a tiny chihuahua - my furbabies are shihtzus and the stairs are too tiny. plans are already being made at my house to do a re-make of the stairs into on long ramp up the side. Luckily we live in an old big house with plenty of openness. As for the reaction, the entire house will have to be sealed with a varnish so not to expose myself or my fur-boys to anything irritating. The house comes in with some kind of stain on it WITHOUT any varnish or sealant-/not a smart move but they DID save about $1 spending on improvements on THEIR part. It would have been better to add the varnish, Merry Pet Company! In the end, would I recommend ? Without sealant and stair modification? Nope If they were to invest that $1 for sealant--yes if you have a very tiny dog If they were to invest $1 for sealant AND redesign stairs? A strong YES -- it iS extremely cute -- our shihtzus love to play house in Amazon boxes, we thought they should have a real little castle of their own!

I absolutely love this dog house! I had noticed that there were several versions of this exact house being sold, and I was skeptical as I wanted one that was of good quality, and this one is! Shipping: It arrived a day early. It was supposed to come on the Thursday, and actually arrived the Wednesday, which was awesome. Product Materials: The dog house, stairs, balcony and lattice are all made of real wood. I'm not too familiar with woods, but it seems like a cedar and smells amazing! It has added a nice fragrance to my room since having it installed there. There are no faux wood, or plastic pieces, every single piece is real wood. Some of the spacing on the panels is a little wide in some places, they aren't all flush and completely touching, - but it's nominal spacing, surely nothing that anyone would notice without very close inspection. the pieces themselves were in excellent condition, no chipping, cracking or scratches. The house is made for dogs no bigger than 8lbs, so I wouldn't push it - it is a small space that fits neatly in a corner. But for dogs 8lbs and under, its perfect. Assembly: The assembly was fairly easy and following the instructions, only took me about an hour. All that is required is one screwdriver. The construction is sturdy, and solid. I feel very confident about this dog house standing the test of time. I highly recommend this house and this company.They're awesome!

The first thing I noticed when opening the box was that the smell of cedar wood wafted out. It smells great, and that was an unexpected surprise. The box (and hence the completed product) is lighter than I expected. I'm happy about that. I had been a little worried that it would be heavy and cumbersome to move from downstairs to upstairs or vice versa. Assembly is easy and took about 20–30 minutes. All you need is one philips screwdriver or drill. I used a screwdriver since I didn't have my drill handy, but I would recommend the drill, if possible. The screw holes are typically drilled through on the outward-facing part but not on the inner part, which means that you have to drive the screw through the wood. The cedar is soft so it's not too bad, but it would be quite a bit easier with a drill. The craftsmanship is surprisingly good for an $80 all-wood. Everything lined up perfectly. The inside area is about 17" by 17". We bought a 22" by 15" pad (since we couldn't find a square one) and it fits in there perfectly (it curves slightly up the walls on the pad's longer dimension). We put ours in our bedroom facing the bed and decided to only install two of the pieces of lattice. It fit perfectly, the sunroof being only a half-inch lower than the bed itself. Worth every penny.

I think we love this more than our Chihuahua right now. This was very easy to put together with a power drill, about 10 min tops. Its light weight, but made very well and smells fantastic. Our living room smells like Cedar which is awesome. So far out little Chihuahua has chilled out on the upper deck, but she doesn't like the ladder. I may have to modify it and make it more of a ramp instead of mini stairs. Not sure most dogs will enjoy the stairs if at all. Oh well, that's why they are dogs. Our chihuahua has only camped out a few times in it right now, but I think that is because she is used to living on our couch and being spoiled. Eventually she will get used to this as her home. I think this is an exceptional little house for a small dog and it looks great and smells great as to keep pests out of it for sure. I have no complaints.....its a cool little dog house and if you're dog is scared of the upper deck...well put a plant on it as it doubles for a nice plant stand too. Right now I have a plant on top...just because I have to modify the stairs so our dog is more comfortable going up and down on it. Good product, good design, super fast shipping and made very well.
