This book was everything everyone said it was. That plot twist I didn’t see coming a mile away! My mind was blown! Good writing. Kept me interested. Great audiobook also !

The Silent Patient was incredibly interesting, and once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. The mystery kept me turning pages, and if I’m honest, part of me never fully believed Alicia did it. I wanted to believe she had been set up. I wanted her to be the victim. In many ways, she was. Rather than a helpless bird fallen from its nest, Alicia felt more like a flower slowly crushed beneath a stone—trapped, suffocating, and unable to grow. She was emotionally defeated, and by the time she acted, it felt as though she believed she had already died inside. What followed was simply the final response to years of psychological torment. The characters were interesting overall, although some felt underdeveloped and were used so sparingly that they seemed more like plot devices than fully realized people. The ending, while satisfying in some respects, felt rushed—something I often find with thrillers. It ended in tragedy, but perhaps there was a sense of earthly justice woven into it as well. The twist was good and kept me engaged, but it wasn’t the kind of shocking revelation that completely caught me off guard. Still, it was a compelling psychological thriller that explores betrayal, trauma, and the devastating consequences of emotional abuse. Definitely worth the read.

this one was an amazing read. I really loved the twist. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, the ending completely surprised me. A compelling read for anyone who enjoys psychological mysteries with an unforgettable twist.

This story unfolded partially how I thought it would, but I truly was not expecting the loop ending. I love that justice was served in the end. I think the author wrote each of these characters beautifully & it was so intriguing to hear the diary portions + Theo's portions. I could not put this book down!

⭐⭐⭐✨ (3.5 stars). I listened to this book in audiobook format and, although it was narrated in British English, it was easy to follow. The narration felt effortless and the accent was strong and never annoying, which definitely helped keep me listening. I am giving this read 3.5 stars because I do not fully understand the hype around this book. I also could not believe how long the plot dragged before finally revealing what was actually happening. It felt like the story kept pulling me along through many small side stories and fillers, only for most of the payoff to happen in the last 20 minutes. That said, I would not call this boring. It was slow, but in a different way than other slow books I have read. Somehow it kept me engaged because I kept expecting something big to happen soon… and it never really came until the very end. Unfortunately, waiting almost the entire book for some kind of action or major revelation in the last chapters felt like a waste of my patience. The story was flat from beginning through end. For me, the ending did not fully make up for the long buildup.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I finally understand why so many people recommend this book. I’ll admit it—the beginning was a slow burn for me. It took a little while to find its rhythm, and I had moments where I struggled to stay focused. But once the story hit its stride, I couldn’t put it down. Every chapter had me questioning what I thought I knew, and every new revelation made me rethink everything that came before it. One of my favorite things about this book is that it doesn’t hand you easy answers or paint its characters as simply “good” or “bad.” Everyone feels damaged, flawed, and incredibly human. I found myself understanding characters I didn’t necessarily agree with, and that’s what made this story so compelling. I also loved how art was woven into the story. Looking back, there were so many subtle details and pieces of foreshadowing hiding in plain sight. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to immediately start over just to catch everything you missed the first time. The ending genuinely caught me off guard. I had several theories while reading, but none of them came close. When everything finally clicked into place, I just sat there trying to process what I’d read. Those are my favorite kinds of thrillers—the ones that leave you staring into space long after you’ve turned the last page. If you’re looking for nonstop action from page one, this may feel a little slow at first. But if you enjoy psychological thrillers that reward patience, challenge your assumptions, and leave you thinking after they’re over, this one is absolutely worth the ride. Alex Michaelides delivered a story that is haunting, intelligent, and impossible to forget. A solid five stars.

What a tangled web some scary spiders weave. I have had the physical book of The Silent Patient for at least three year and never made it past the intro. At first I was excited to read it but the excitement wore off as so many people that read books gave reviews about it on Instagram. People either loved it or they hated it. It gets a great deal more hate than it does love lately and I suppose that happens when a book has been hyped up for as long as this one has. It’s not fair to the author to read a book that he or she wrote a few years ago and compare it to other authors books of the present. I think when this story hit shelves and peoples Kindles it was the latest and greatest psychological domestic thriller at the time. I decided to listen to this book and also read when it was too late to listen. Also I find that sometimes when listening to a story, it helps to be able to go back and read certain parts or chapters that may have not made sense. I tend to get involved with cleaning and can tune out the story if my mind begins to focus on something else. My opinion of this book is that it was boring at first and sad. I loved Alicia’s voice and then it was Theo who droned on about his terrible and abusive childhood at the behest of his deranged father. I did like when Theo pointed out that those who go through traumatic childhoods tend to latch on to psychology and possibly become therapists because they are trying to find answers and heal themselves. So very true. Theo seemingly breaks the pattern by going to university and becoming a psycho-therapist. He even meets his American wife Kathy by a chance encounter on a double date where he and Kathy fell for each other even though they were with other people. He falls madly in love with her and feels God has blessed him for the horrific experiences he had growing up and is so grateful for meeting Kathy. Then the story takes on additional information as Alicia is in a psychiatric facility and does not speak to a soul. She is non verbal and gives zero indication she is in any state of awareness. Her silence is deafening to Theo who strongly believes he can help her. Throughout the story the reader is blessed with tidbits about Alicia’s life growing up (a little bit) as well as her life with her husband Gabriel who she very much loves. She is a very talented artist and he is a professional photographer. This story is filled with symbolism, Greek mythology, psychology and artistry really. It’s also about betrayal and murder. I had it figured out about 48% through, until the final twist or reveal. It’s very good. This should definitely be a movie. Highly recommend to anyone who is late to the game in reading this. The Audio is spectacular. The English accents are so elegant and truly make the story come to life.

This is Alex Michaelides debut novel and what a debut it is. I just don’t know how he’s going to top this. I loved this book. The story entices you in starting off with Alicia’s diary. Although not every time, the chapters to alternate between Alicia’s diary and Theo’s POV. Its hard not to spoil this book with my review. I’m about to write something down and then realise that it would give too much away. There are so many twists and turns to this story that once you’ve started, you just can’t stop. And I love thrillers like that. In fact, I love any novel like that. Alex’s writing is outstanding! There were point in the book where I was a little bored with Alicia’s silence (my problem – I’m impatient – not Alex’s) but once I got to the end of the book and had a few days to stew over what actually happened, I realised that it makes total sense and is absolutely necessary for her to be silent for as long as she was. There is a shocking twist at the end of this book. As always, you wonder how you didn’t see it coming. But with this one, it is literally staring you in the face the whole time. I gasped when I read the ending, I also laughed and shouted at myself for not seeing it coming. I couldn’t get enough of this book, of Alex’s writing style, of the twists and turns, of the journey he takes you on. I’m already itching to get my hands on something else written by him. I highly recommend The Silent Patient. I originally gave this book 4/5 stars when I reviewed it straight after reading, however, a few weeks have gone by and I have mulled it over, and it really does deserve 5/5 stars. So, that is now my revised rating. 5/5 stars.

... with a superb twist at the end. Quite a harrowing tale, and at first quite slow reading... basically because the patient is silent, so there's not much dialogue! But as the narrative broadens, the story becomes a real page-turner. The conclusion is a work of genius, in fact this is super writing, thoroughly recommended.

I recently purchased "The Silent Patient" and I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed. I came across this book after watching a video on Instagram discussing its upcoming movie adaptation. After scrolling through the comments, I discovered that the movie was actually based on a book, and being someone who likes to compare the two, I knew I had to give it a read. It is fun for me to watch the movies and then read their books to see what details should have been given in the movie. The writing style in "The Silent Patient" is exactly what I enjoy in a thriller - it's fast-paced, suspenseful, and keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Without giving away any spoilers, I have to say that the plot twist at the end was absolutely mind-blowing and left me reeling. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller. Whether you're planning to watch the movie or not, "The Silent Patient" is a must-read. So, if you're looking for a book that will keep you up all night and leave you questioning everything you thought you knew, this is definitely the one for you.
