A very good old-fashioned strainer - just what I have been looking for!
This is an excellent strainer. Good volume, not overy deep but also not too shallow. I have been looking for a replacement strainer for the longest time - my grandmother's finally gave up the ghost (it is 30 years since she passed & the strainer was old then). I don't know if it is from the same maker, but everything about this satrainer is identical to her's. I'd estimate that the original lasted about 60 years. If I get 1/3 of that service from this strainer, I will have had more than good service from it. lol Construction is sturdy, it can be filled completely and handle resting on a bowl or pot without strain. I have already used it lined with a light weight cloth to strain a small batch of stock - held the bones & aromatics with no trouble at all. This strainer has a double mesh which also makes it very good for straining pulp for jelly making. In the product description it reads, "Good quality product." That is not an empty boast. Most of those who pan this item seem to be expecting a chinois. This is not a chinois, it is a strainer. [NB: If you are concerned about rust, do not wash in a dishwasher & do not let it soak in a pan of dishwater - the failure is not the product's but the user's. Treat your tools well & they will outlast you - see grandma's strainer for an exemplar. ;) ]

Great but still searching for a perfect quinoa strainer
Great price to quality ratio. I am pleased with this strainer, it strains most everything exceptionally well, save for the one thing and the sole reason I purchased this item... cleaning quinoa. Now quinoa is such a tiny grain that it's hard for any strainer to be perfect here. I feel like the market is yearning for a specialty product that doesn't exist yet. A strainer that will handle quinoa without any of the grains getting stuck in the mesh, we need even smaller mesh for this grain! Saying that, the strainer does do well for this purpose, but it's not perfect. After I'm done I have a small handful of quinoa grains that have managed to get stuck or slip through the first layer of mesh. 4 stars because this is as close as I've gotten to a perfect quinoa strainer and it works for everything else as well. Another reviewers tip was to clean as normal and then let it dry first and the rest of the stuck grains will pop out after several good shakes and smacks. I have found this to be true, it works well, but it does add an extra step which I feel like shouldn't be necessary if a specialty product existed. Overall: great product!!!!

Extremely Durable and a TERRIFIC Price!
This is a TERRIFIC strainer. The construction is solid. By itself, the wire frame is strong...it's built out of heavy gauge and has a really firm feel to it. But add to that a wooden support down the middle of the handle and you have a really concrete grip that doesn't budge. The sieve portion is equally solid. The outside circumference consists of the same heavy wire gauge, and the interior strainer consists of a double fine mesh that is extremely strong. It is the ideal sieve for almost anything I can think of that you might wish to strain: noodles, rice, veggies, meat...I can't imagine the item that could bend it. It also has "grip" tabs at the end that allow it to cling to the edge of the surface of whatever container you're pouring it over...say, a mixing bowl, or a pot. It will not relinquish its grip or slide off due to the bent tabs. While I would definitely vouch for its functionality in a kitchen, I am going to add what I think is a real testament of its durability. I've bought TWO -- but not because I expect it to break (anything but!). No -- in fact, I use them for straining out impurities in my HORSE TROUGHS. This would include hunks of hay, dirt, even wood or other harsh, crappy junk that falls in there. Despite the punishment these strainers go through they have shown almost NO signs of wear. I am amazed that this is only costs $6.90. If you have Prime, the PRICE includes shipping...you simply can't beat this bargain.

Excellent Strainer - fine enough for rice, quinoa, etc.
This is a great strainer for pasta and works well for finer things such as washing rice or quinoa. I've run this through the dishwasher every time I use it and there are no signs of rust and everything holding up well. The little hooks around the outside of the strainer that allows you to sit it on top of pan for easy draining but I've also used this for steaming - just bring a pot to boil, fill the strainer with veggies and set on top of the pot of boiling water for a few minutes for perfectly steamed veggies.
