Sliding T Bevel 10" Blade

This sliding bevel works great and resolves the issue of a nut that juts out and effectively renders other similar products useless. I bought a low priced composite bevel from a different Amazon vendor and the quality is fine. I have no issues with it except the large wing nut at the pivot point that keeps me from flipping it over. This sliding bevel releases and tightens from the bottom of the handle so it is possible to turn the bevel over for marking dovetails, etc. I believe this bevel will last longer and be more accurate because it is made of high quality metal. I would recommend this to everyone.

I purchased this 10" sliding T bevel because I was unhappy with the one I already had. This one is much more to my liking. With it's aluminum handle and stainless steel blade it is both light and sturdy. The one I already had was sturdy, but I didn't like how heavy it felt. The feature I love on this one, and that sets it head and shoulders above my old one is the locking mechanism. On my old one it was a knurled knob located at the top of the handle near the blade. I just didn't like the knob. I never felt like I could really lock the blade down, and often times I would move the blade when trying to lock it in place. It sucked, but with this one both of those issues are eliminated. The locking mechanism is on the bottom away from the blade. It's more comfortable, and I have no problems locking the blade in place. This product is great, and the seller provided great customer service when my first one was damaged by the carrier. I contacted the seller, and they quickly got back to me, and then sent me a new one.

I'm working on a set of chairs and was frustrated with my cheap Swanson bevel gauge. Never felt like I could tighten the knob enough and I had to be very careful not to bump the gauge lest the blade move.With just moderate torque the Shinwa's blade holds quite firm. Using a modest amount of pressure I tried to move the blade after tightening and could not. It's also quite nice being able to tighten the blade from either side of the tool.Tip: apply a small amount of oil (3-in-1, mineral, etc.) to the blade to let it slide more smoothly.

I get frustrated from losing exact angles due to cheap tools. A few degrees off really matters. When you are ready to invest in better tools--add this to your toolbox.Good price. Great quality. Honestly the only reason I went with this one was because it’s not made in china. About twice the price of the Chinese made product, but I’m confident it’ll outlast any Chinese made t-bevel out there. It has a durable feel to it. The tension screw is easy to adjust due to the shape. It’s a simple design. I would prefer made in U.S.A. But Japanese made is a close second. Works as designed.

Love this sliding bevel, nice and big enough for my needs. Super fancy locking system, which really keeps the angle part stable and locked tight. The base part is aluminum, bevel part is stainless steel, and the adjust lock is brass. So all in all, pretty solid construction for this sliding bevel.

I have an inexpensive stanley (POS) that wouldn't hold a setting no matter how hard you cranked the wingnut. I have an an old Millers Falls that works similarly, but it clunky and seen better days. I can't imagine a better functioning bevel gauge than this one. Very positive lock up, nicely finished, easy to set and all metal. If you are serious, get this one. You can pay more, but you can't buy better.

Contrary to opinions, this bevel has no advantage over one with a wingnut on the face. Why? Because this bevel’s lock screw practically touches the surface of what you are taking the angle from. There is no room for your fingers to tighten it.Furthermore, the claim that you can flip the bevel over to make a mirror scribe on the opposite side of your project is an exaggeration. The tool’s blade is not equally sandwiched in the handle (See pic). One side is a useable 3/8 inch deep. The other side is a measly 3/16 inch thick. It won’t work on lumber with a 1/8 inch rounded edge.The only quality that sets this bevel apart is its thicker blade. It is ~50 percent thicker than my previous tool. Will I keep it? Dunno. The end screw turned out to be a hassle rather than a feature. And this one cost almost three times as much.
