A book for anyone to read, with love for everyone
Maya Angelou is a must-read author. And this book, being accessible and honest for any audience, is an excellent way to introduce yourself to her work. But that's not why I bought this book over and over. I give this book away, to my friends, to my family, to coworkers. Once I donated a copy to a community center. It's a book meant to be shared, so I buy it and give it away to people who are important to me. It's a book to read when you feel lost in the world, and in times when you're at peace with life. Angelou shares her past and her hopes for the future. She talks about her most painful moments and moments of incandescent happiness. In these stories and essays, she shares experiences from her life that have shaped her and that she has grown from, experiences she wants to pass on that others might benefit from. It's like a love letter to the world. This passage is a good summation of the general theme of this book: "When I decide to write anything, I get caught up in my insecurity despite the prior accolades. I think, uh, uh, now they will know I am a charlatan that I really cannot write and write really well. I am almost undone, then I pull out a new yellow pad and as I approach the clean page, I think of how blessed I am. The ship of my life may or may not be sailing on calm and amiable seas. The challenging days of my existence may or may not be bright and promising. Stormy or sunny days, glorious or lonely nights, I maintain an attitude of gratitude. If I insist on being pessimistic, there is always tomorrow. Today I am blessed."

A Letter To My Daughters by Maya Angelou
I bought this book Used from Amazon. The quality was very good. Other than a large stain on the second page, which did not cause any problems in reading, the book was in perfect condition! As for the content, well, I found the book to be an easy read. This is a book of memoirs, each with a moralistic point. Beautifully written. Maya's introspections are clever, insightful, heartwarming, sometimes prophetic, even fun, but never boring. This book helped me to realize what I wanted to say to my daughter. It gave me a deeper understanding of my own mother, and an appreciation for the knowledge that my mother, my daughter and myself are, in many ways, one. READ IT.

a heartfelt guide for all.
This was a special book. Really enjoyed reading it and learning about Dr. Angelou’s perspective as a black woman. Even though the book was written many years ago, some of the observations remain true

Motherly Wisdom
I enjoyed this book. My only complaint is that it was too short! It felt like being spoken to by one’s mother attempting to pass on her wisdom. There were some stories repeated from Angelous previous works, but there were more new stories told than old. There are so many short stories in the book that display not only Angelous wisdom but her desire to share her wealth of knowledge with her inherited daughters. Wonderful read.

Another taste of wisdom from the Mother Poet
This collection of autobiography was a comforting, reassuring read after enduring the passing and physical loss of such a profound, prolific, poetic matriarch. Though she left us, she also left us her wise words and experiences. This easy reading autobiography yields another inner look into Maya Angelou's soul, her psyche, and her very brilliant intellect. Here, you will see gain glimpses of her errors in action and thinking, but most importantly, you will see how she amazingly recovered from each redeeming herself over and over again. Life was truly a song that Angelou sang, no matter what the time or tune. LETTER TO MY DAUGHTER was exactly what I needed to read in order to carry the spirit of this amazing woman forth even after her death. It's timely, not just for the millions of daughters she left behind but for every sonship created by her living as well.

The Title, although I "get it"...was misleading. I enjoyed it, a quick read. Not what I thought tho.

Maya is a voice, that doesnt shiver She awakens the dormant shakti in each woman. While the english is very very different from the Indian english, I had to use the dictionary But some of the lines, are such that they speak to my soul. In less than a week I am almost going to complete reading the book! And I am planning to buy the next Maya book! If you need a loving nonna, (nani) she is the one!
