Works great, secure with hardware.
These trash guards work great and kill flies and maggots as advertised. The main downside is the tape: one side is difficult to peel, can be easily damaged, and may loosen from the vibration when the trash hauler empties the bin (if you do manage to peel the difficult side off). To secure mine, I used two machine screws with nylon-insert wing nuts. It takes very little time and effort to drill the holes and fasten them properly, and it is worth it because the trash guards work so well. I started with a clean receptacle and used this cleaner: https://a.co/d/03vdpyXc. I sprayed it on, let it sit, and then rinsed it off with a strong jet stream. For materials, I used two #10-24 x 1" black flat-head socket-head screws (https://a.co/d/0gwEcyvm) and two 10-24-inch nylon-insert wing nuts (https://a.co/d/05aviDVH). The nylon insert it to prevent the wing nuts from loosening from vibration. I also placed small O-rings under the screw heads to help keep out moisture, though they probably were not necessary. The hole was snug, the flat head had enough surface area, and tightening everything down firmly likely would have sealed it well enough. I drilled the hole with what I believe was a 5/32โ bit, though it may have been 11/64โ. Start with 5/32โ so the screw fits snugly and requires light pressure to install; mine threaded in, which should also help with sealing. Use the trash guard on the inside as a guide and drill outward through the top. See the pictures for reference. I tightened good and snug, if you use too much force, you may crack the trash guard, so donโt try to get it as tight as you possibly can. Finally, if the lid or other areas have wear holes, seal them if possible. I had a small hole in one corner of my lid and covered it with gaff tape on both sides. I'm so thankful to know about these things!

Kill insects effectively. Not sticky enough to trash can
It removes the odor and kills insects effectively. However, it does have the issue that the tape included is not sticky enough to the trash can surface. I need to use my own double-sided tape.

Infuriatingly Useless Adhesive
Allow me to paint a picture! Mississippiโฆin 111 degree heat. A slightly paunchy 50+ year old man in slides, athletic shorts and a t-shirt. His sweat-drenched body labors in the hot sun and oppressive humidity. He is on a mission to rid himself of the pesky flies that inhabit his garbage can. What stands in his way you might ask? Allow me to answer! A piece of raggedy, pain-in-the-butt adhesive! This maddening piece of garbage(no pun intended) has two sides. The plastic on one side peels off like a dream. The other? Well, the other requires the strength of Hercules himself to remove. In this case, a tired, sun-baked and out of shape retiree had no shot at removing this thing. I can only assume this is some type of sick joke perpetrated by the manufacturer. I can hear them all chortling in some far-off board room. โLetโs make one side super easy to remove and then make the other side nearly impossible!!โ Anyway, fast forward to yesterday. With the creative language still hanging in the heavy, humid air, I FINALLY get the other adhesive backing offโฆat least what is left of it! The remnants of it were stuck to my shirt, a pair of needle nose pliers and my fingers. I carefully stuck the bait station to the inside of the can and hoped for the best! As for the effectiveness of the device, I will report back and amend this review. I can only hope the poison works better than the adhesive strip!! Update: Flies have established a colony in and around the garbage can. They are hanging out and living their best lives. They are undeterred by the bait station it seems. Iโll give it a bit longer but so far it seems the product itself is not working.

Effectiveness great, adhesive strip doesn't work
I have been using Terro garbage guard a couple of years. The actual product works great. It does what it is advertised to do, kill all of the flys, knats, and maggots that once infested my trash cans, Quickly. This would be 5 star review on effectiveness for sure. Had to give it a four star review solely based off of the adhesive strip. It doesnโt stick well. I had quite a few fall off into trash can and get loaded on garbage truck with trash. Product too expensive to be lost after a week or two. I purchased double sided gorilla tape and use that now. Havenโt lost one in trash since. So I recommend this product to kill the insects, but you will need to purchase a better quality double sided tape.

This works if you can get the adhesive strip to work, not a sticky wicket!!
I have purchased this Terro T800 several times for my Simply Human stainless kitchen trash can. The first application in 2023 worked well and kept tiny fruit flies and larvae from sticking to the inside and hatching almost overnight. This first one lasted about 5 months and was very effective. I found that the double sided adhesive tape held well and was even hard to remove it all for future applications. The problem now with the 2d and 3d units was that first, there was no adhesive included in the top half of the pouch that you have to cut off to use,it was not included!! I had to use a separate double stick tape for it to work. The 3d unit had very poor adhesive nand the expensive plastic insect killer fell off the lid and was lost in the trash where I did not see that it was missing until a week later. Besides being over priced, someone needs to make a better adhesive for this product. When it works it works fine for a long time and I now use a spray โZEVOโ can spray one a week with a new bag at quite a savings.

Kills everything as promised, but still leaves a cleanup
Kills everything as promised, but still leaves a cleanup Living in Florida with a household of 10 and once-a-week trash pickup, outdoor trash cans are a constant battleground for flies and maggots. Iโve always trusted TERRO products, and this Garbage Guard definitely does what it claims to do. It won't stop flies from entering or laying eggs in the first place, but everything that hatches or flies in dies. Flies, maggotsโit eliminates them effectively. A few things to keep in mind: Cleanup required: Because it kills them so well, you'll still have dead bugs/maggots at the bottom of the can to wash out. Odor: It isn't designed to eliminate odors, so keep that in mind if smell is your primary issue. Overall, it isn't a total cure-all for keeping a trash can spotless, but it dramatically cuts down the live pest population and does its job. Iโd buy it again!

Works great, but use something other than the tape to attach
The sticky tape will fall off however I put a Ziploc through the holes and attached to my garbage pail. So far even in the high temperature heat that weโve had no flies and no maggots.

TERRO solved my fly problem!
I could not be more grateful for this product! I was ready to move due to our house having ongoing repeated fly infestations. I finally tracked the problem to the excessive flies that get into our garage garbage cans, then breed. It seems some maggots make it under the trim, resulting in flies in the house. I have lot of teenagers and people constantly going in and out of the garage, so perfectly contained trash management can be difficult. I cleaned the entire area, suspended the Garbage Guard from a zip tie inside the garbage can and closed the lid. The next day, zero fly activity inside and around the bins!! And better yet, zero flies appearing inside my house!! I believe this product helped solve a stumper of an issue that no one had been able to figure out! As others have mentioned, you must use wire or a zip tie to suspend inside the bins; don't bother with the adhesive. It was very simple to set up. I'm so happy!

Waste of money
The product isn't working as it was shown. The package seal was loose. The double side tape was missing. The flies wasn't seen for a day or two after that the product seemed disappeared for flies or may be the flies were using some kind of mask to avoid the smell. It's been over a month and not happy with the results.

100% happy customer from Australia
Reading the previous reviews, I was a bit skeptical byuing it. But I can tell you that it works well the day I put it in. Flies are still around the bin but always ended up dying. No more maggots and bad smell. So happy. Back to buy a couple more. 100% recommend this products.
