It will remove light colored pencil, but if you've colored really heavy it will leave some color on the paper.

How well does it erase charcoal pencil marks?

Depending on how heavy the mark is, there may be some residual charcoal that will not get erased. Otherwise it's good for making marks in a charcoal field or erasing "accidental" lines or marks.
