Works amazingly well!
I rarely give 5 stars on any product so to reserve them for the most outstanding, quality items. But with this SuperEar, i had to give 5 STARS necause of what this device accomplished. In a nutshell, my grama is 97. She actually passed recently. However this SuperEar device imlroved her quality of living for her last 2 years. She was hard of hearing but would not, could not wear hearing aids of any kind. She was old-school in that sense and technology scared her. Anyway, the family began to notoce that she wasnt hearing well, we had to yell and repeat constantly, it was very difficult. I reaearched and found these in Amazon. I read reviews which is when and why i started doing reviews because people really count in them to make informed decisions. I bought them for her and she started using them. IT WAS LIKE A MIRACLE I KID YOU NOT. It was night and day. She used headphones which adjusted and fit comfortably on her head. You place the heaeing device out in front of jer the cord stretches 4 or 5 feet. You can put in middle of room, or front of the bed. This sound mechanism picks up sounds so clearly and so very loudly. It amplifies sound in a big way! You can adjust the sound on ear phones. My grandma turned them all the way up...this is how deaf she was in both ears God Bless her. But, when i put on earphones at that sound level it.just about blew my eardrum. So, be careful...this device is very powerful! You canceasily hear conversations from ACROSS the room and eveythijg in between. The proce is fair and i would buy them again in a heartbeat and recommend them. They are.solid and made well. They are not CIA spy level, however we have never had a problem with them not working...and we used them a lot daily. They take batteries, but it seems to power them for a long time before needing new batteries. As a matter of fact, i dont ever remember having to change batteries.

Good inexpensive device
SuperEar is a very simple device that effectively boosts the sound coming from a tv,or any other listening device with speakers. With it, I am able to listen to tv with the volume on very low, and with the volume on this device turned up, and hear perfectly well, therefore not disturbing others. It does boost other noise in the background somewhat, but not enough to be bothersome. It uses 1 AAA battery, and goes through them fairly often. You might want to purchase some spare batteries along with this. The only negative with this device is the rather small size of the earphones. They tend to slide off your ears every so often. This is a good, effective, inexpensive device that does what it was designed to do.

Excellent highly sensitive mic and amplifier combo!!
I was looking for a amplified mic to use on a large Parabolic dish that i use for recording wildlife in my area. I dident want to spend alot of money and came across the Sonic Super Ear Personal Sound Amplifier and i liked the price!! I wasent sure what i would get or if if this would even work for my aplication. This Mic and Amp combo works Great on my Parabolic dish and would recomend it to anyone on buget. A few words of cation! If you are using this mic for the hard of hearing, make sure there is very little or no back ground noise at all! As this mic is so sensitive, it picks up everything!! This is a great mic if used under the right conditions! As for one on one conversations or TV watching with no other back ground noise in the room this is a great buy for the money!!! As far as for use on my Parabolic dish! I can hear what kids are talking about at 100 yards away, very clearly!! I realy like this mic!

If you cannot afford anything better, this will do until you can.
I was tempted to rate it a 2, but I do use this. The head phones that come with it have a real short wire, this I knew before hand so I bought an extra set that was only 4 feet, still need more length between couch and TV. Now after all that, it picks up the TV great, but the surrounding sounds are also magnified and I mean MAGNIFIED. If you talk while you are wearing them, be ready to remove them from your ears. If someone turns on the blender, that is all you will hear. If someone is sitting next to you, they will drown out the TV. The amplifier is great if no one is home while I am using it. As soon as I can afford a better model, I will be purchasing it.

Not suitable for listening to TV
Although the box for this product shows a lady using it to listen to TV, this product picks up noise in ALL directions making it very difficult to listen to TV. If someone is cooking, walking around or a cell phone goes off, the amplified sound can be damaging to the ear, hardly a way to watch TV. So while it looks like a directional microphone, and the specifications talk about it being a "multi-element" microphone, when I took off the foam wind cover, I was disappointed to see a hollow plastic column and just a single off the shelf (standard) electret microphone element (the same kind used in cheap toys). This kind of microphone is very basic: Gino Small MIC Capsules Electret Condenser Microphone 18 Pcs It is also cheap feeling in general, using light weight plastic. From the picture, it looked like a serious personal amplifier that might be made of metal or aluminum, but it is just rather thin plastic. The included headphones are also very cheap, like the dollar store variety. I had to order a basic Panasonic headphone to at least be comfortable wearing them: Panasonic RP-HT21 Lightweight Headphones with XBS Port Good idea, but this product doesn't appear to have been updated since it was first introduced in the 80s. The photos on the box are extremely dated.

I can hear everything!
I like this little guy. You can pretend you're an on-the-scene reporter and hold the fuzzy mike right up to folks. You'll never miss a word, and they'll crack up! Lots of fun. UPDATE: 2/2015: I got very frustrated with my hearing loss and decided to hit my insurance plan up for some hearing aids. I got a pair for $5000! They were horrible! They amped-up everything, and going into a public place, like a restaurant, was like taking a trip to the Tower of Babel! I literally couldn't converse with someone sitting across the table from me. I returned those rip-off units and thought about this little guy. I had left it on a shelf, for a while, because the novelty factor wore off. Then, I got some ideas. First, I bought some high-tech Altec ear buds. They made a big difference. Then, I decided to deal with the fuzzy microphone. I opened the unit and disconnected the mike, being sure to leave some of the shielded cable. I then soldered in a mini phone jack and, after drilling a 15/64" hole into the other side of the unit, I mounted it. Next, I ordered an Olympus noise rejecting mini mike, from Amazon. I hooked it up as soon as I got it. It mounts on a clip that I can clip on my shirt. Guess what? This unit is ten times better than the $5000 hearing aids I had purchased (and returned). I spent about $20 for this unit (it has since gone up), $20 for the ear buds, and $13 for the mike. The mini phone jack was $2. So, for a grand total of $55, I blew that $5000 rip-off right out of the water, big time! Don't get taken by the hearing aid "centers" that cater to older folks. They're mostly middle men dealers who get a piece of every sale they make, from the primary manufacturer, or further-up-the-stream middle men. They push inferior products at astronomical prices. The unit I have put together will serve me very well. I only wish that some of the major companies would start making skin-colored ear buds. Very odd that you can only find one mono (one-bud) unit in "flesh." That needs to change, and I'll be pushing for it in an upcoming email campaign.

Amplifies background noise so much, it's useless. You will go deaf using it.
The product doesn't work well as it amplified background noise more than anything else and it is basically useless. You will hear the droning noise of electronics, the ruffle sound of the unit as it touches other things and the sound of your hand touching the unit the most. You will end up turning up the volume more just to hear the things you are trying to hear and find yourself going deaf from the even louder background noise also being amplified. The microphone is also not really directional, contrary to it's looks.

It works well but has limitations....
It really does work well, but it picks up any noise near it. If you are alone watching TV it would be great, though there is naturally some static sound, but tolerable. As long as you realize anyone or anything making noise in the room will also be heard, and loudest if the sounds are between the device and the TV. If there's a fan on you'll hear that, or the air it stirs up will add to the static a bit. I tried using it while visiting my daughter; she was on the sofa with me and the TV was turned down very low. I could definitely hear the show only while using this, but when my daughter talked her voice was loud. If anything bangs into this it amplifies that sound, too, so you'd want to set it somewhere and not touch it. Again, if you're alone and want to hear it's great; and it does amplify voices! For the price it's a bargain. I'd like to use it with more discrete earbuds (like those with an iPod) if I were using it in public.

Prueba inicial
Hasta ahora no he tenido tiempo de probarlo bien. La primera impresiónn es que se oye mejor a simple oído que con el auricular puesto. Quiero recalcar que esto es sólo mi opinión, no un juicio de valores. Atentos saludos. Carlos Cibrian Logroño

Impressive performance for the price!
I did expect the microphone to be very sensitive, but this is actually better than I expected! A bit of hiss, when the unit is turned up high, but then the sound picked up is also very clear and easy to identify. It works perfectly with the headphones that comes in the package, but even better with Sennheiser HD 25-1 II. Never again any problems in understanding mumbling speakers during a lecture! The product also seems well built. Good strong spring to hold the battery contact, and nice that only one battery is needed! The battery lid is thin and fragile, so maybe some care is needed there, but this is a minor issue, in my opinion. Impressive product, and actually something I expect not to put away i a drawer, to be forgotten about.
