It is not such a question of purpose but a question of megapixels and video quality. Both have waterproof casing and accesories but the real diference between black and silver editions is the video quality (4K vs 1080p) and photography resolution (12MP vs 10MP). Maybe you'd need a floaty backdoor if you're going scuba diving. Hope it helps.

Yes it has a mode that makes u take photos while u r shooting a video , no it dose not have a night vision

How long can it record a video?

These answers are only partly correct. The camera has a 1 gig buffer so for long videos it will break them in pieces. You won't loose footage but you'll have to string them together.
