what size are the marbles? I am looking for 1/2" or 12mm

That is exactly what size they are = 1/2".

Are these really 1in in diameter? That seems quite large.

Don't know what the official measurements on these are but I just measured one and it is closer to 0.5 inch in diameter.

how much does the product weigh?

I don't know as mine are now in a vase of bamboo, but the shipping weight on Amazon show just under 13 ounces and that sounds right to me.

will these work in a firepit. will they take heat?

I don't think they will. they are still glass and may break or shatter.
