Our house was built in 1938. We love our original glass doorknobs. We hate when they “slip” and lose their ability to actually turn the latch mechanism, leaving our child trapped in her bedroom, or a guest trapped in the bathroom. No matter how hard we tightened the set screw, or screwed then on, they were always a hassle. Until now. This shaft replaces the old ones with the worn out threads. It fit perfectly and provided a much more “solid” feeling immediately. The knob screws in perfectly, and once at the correct depth, the set screw locks it into place. It fits the old door, lock, and knobs perfectly. I wish I had done this 10 years ago. It’s worth noting that we did have one KNOB with worn threads inside. Not much can be done for this except to replace the knobs. Otherwise, these are a slam dunk fix that takes about 2 minutes per door. DID YOU KNOW: Glass doorknobs became common in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s because the USA needed as much metal as possible to build the tanks, planes and other machines for WWII. People were encouraged to recycle their metal doorknobs and replace with glass.

Perfect fit for my glass door knows from 1935. Be sure the screw is put on the flat part of spindle. Just turn it until you see the flat part.

I purchased 2 of these items because I needed 2 spindles. Turns out, despite the product information that specifies this product contains 1 spindle per package, the package actually contains 2 spindles. I now have 4 spindles and can't get a refund on the extra 2 because their return policy won't allow it, even despite the false advertising. Kind of annoying. In any case, if you purchase these, just know that you're getting 2 per package.

Could NOT find these anywhere in my hometown. These are great for replacing old rusted & damaged knob parts. Would like to have a tap to chase the threads in the knobs, but that's not the fault of these.

I never bother posting reviews, but these are such a lifesaver that I felt compelled. We just bought a house built in 1920, and all its beautiful original hardware is intact. We quickly realized this was a bit of a problem when doorknobs started slipping (thus trapping you behind a door that won't open), or falling off altogether. Tightening screws did nothing, so I took a leap of faith and ordered these spindles, hoping they'd fit. I installed the first one (yes, these are two-packs!) in a matter of two minutes, and it is like we have 100% brand-new hardware. I'm so glad we are able to preserve our old brass and crystal beauties, and at such an unbelievable price! I plan to order more and replace in every knob in the house.
