Does it contain harmful materials like lead? Can you post what the material consists of?

Accepted Answer

This has been tested by an independent lab for heavy metals (lead and chromium).  The levels are well below the thresholds set by California Prop 65.  As such this fire glass safe according to the State of California and the standards set in Proposition 65.

How many 10lb jars would I need to fill a 36" diameter fire pit?

Accepted Answer

To fill a 36" round fire pit to a depth of 2" you would need approximately 100 lbs. (10 jars).  Less if you're doing less than 2" depth.  I always recommend you start with less fire glass than you think you need, then add some if you need.  I recommend you start with 80 lbs to see how close that gets you.

Can I use it in an indoor natural gas fireplace? I have a pan with vented log set.

Yes I use it in my indoor gas fireplace that was converted from a wood burner. I have logs on a rack and I spread it about an inch think all around and as far under it as I could. The most pleasant side effect is that the glass generates heat and my fireplace puts out more warmth. I love the glass. One box may not be enough. I bought two.

Can I use it in an indoor natural gas fireplace?

Accepted Answer

Yes you can - depending on they style of gas fireplace.  It can be used to replace the lava rocks which typically are included as a bed in the fireplace.  If you have a gas log fireplace with the burning embers look (a soft material under the logs which glow like embers when lit), you do not want to replace or change the material which glows like the embers.  If you want, you can send me a picture of your fireplace and I can advise.
