Not only did this book help with the original objective, but it provided practical tips on practical meditation techniques that I found useful. It's documented medical fact that medication can have health benefits, so I'm glad I purchased this book. The first time I read this book, I was unable to finish it. I would not recommend reading this casually over a long period of time. Understanding the undertaking requires new words, and not all of the terminology meanings were in the glossary in the end. I recommend reading the book in a short period of time. It's not particularly long, so that's easily achievable. The book begins with his personal journey to enlightenment, the realizations he had, and how he combined training from multiple disciplines to create his approach. I've had a few visions that went beyond words at about the same age, so some of his experiences rang very true to me. I'd forgotten about my own mystical experiences. In Chapter 19, he talks about the Truth or Lie game. That does seem to be a good icebreaker way of getting people to share their stories like that. Later parts cover tuning into consciousness, information on meditation, including practical tips. I like that he went over how to approach chants and mantras in a way that allowed them to be adapted based on religious practice or lack thereof. Achieving harmony seems to be the main point of the book. I found the Q&A very helpful. I read the 3rd edition, so some earlier versions may not include that. While it's tempting to mark off because the URLs in the book no longer, as an author who neglects his own website, I can understand that. Compared to the extensive insights contained in the book, such consideration is but a pittance. Despite the problems I had in my first readthroughs, I still rate The Unbound Soul 5 out of 5 for a supremely thought-provoking read. I plan to read it again as a reference book and to incorporate some of the techniques as habits. Review: One person will graduate and light the way for many (author of A New Vision) - Haight tells about his spiritual journey to God. On this journey he discovers a God beyond the God of the Bible, who reminds him of โa violent, racist, jealous, wrathful, insecure, judgmental man.โ Haight has a vision where his spirit rose up through spiritual dimensions, beyond the galaxy and universe. He encountered a great void and beyond that a presence, an intelligence, and a power, that was perfect, loving and whole. Haight lays out a plan for his readers to experience this intelligent presence and find their wholeness. How to resolve disharmony, tune into consciousness, receive inspiration, remove the veil, and experience unconditional love are covered in his book. In the desertcart jungle, Haight had a vision of the purpose of life on earth. He learned of the destruction and renewal to come in the near future. He saw there would be a spiritual awakening, and that it will lead to a shift in consciousness throughout humanity. But first the corruption in the world must be fully exposed. Conscious light from the center of the galaxy will bath the earth in increasing intensity. This light will cause corruption, greed and selfishness to collapse upon itself. The three pillars of humanity- economy, ecology and society will fail. Everything based on lies will be exposed. Haight saw two possible futures. If we stay selfish, negative, and resist positive change, our suffering will be immense and life on earth will reach near-extinction levels. This horror was beyond words. If we choose a positive, loving path that honors all life, and embraces the truths that are revealed, the world will be better off. Even so, the population of humanity will shrink. Those remaining will make a transition to an inspiring way of life. Life will be richer and people will commune with all things. One person will graduate and light the way for many. We would then see a great enlightenment on earth. Haight received a knowing that when he had gone far enough down the path of enlightenment, he would be protected from malicious intent with an energy field. Haight learns a type of bodywork meditation called sotai-ho where he could detect areas of heaviness in his body and use energetic touch to free up the heavy energy. He combined sotai-ho with his martial arts and discovered his body would move on its own, as it opened up energetic pathways. This combination developed a protective field around Haightโs body when meditating. โThere is conscious light from the center of the galaxy, bathing the earth with ever-increasing intensityโฆ we will meet that light with the conscious light of our being, bathing the entire multiverse in unconditioned love and thereby resolving all sense of separationโฆ we will transition into a sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, just human presence on this planet.โ

Comprehensive, Provocative Spiritual Work
"The Unbound Soul Applied Spirituality" is an autobiography and instructional book into the author's "Observation Meditation" and "Dance of Self" Techniques. The author also discusses such topics, among others, as the mind, memory, psychic sense, physical body that relate to seeking the path of "Being" which seems very similar to Advaita Vedenta Philosophy. Most provocative and fascinating is the author's chronicling of his prodigious spiritual and psychic experiences that molded his philosophy through the years. Very early in his life, the author had very profound dreams of Jesus who exhorted him to find the essence of his teachings. At one point, Jesus stated "find my bones for they are the core of my teachings" This probably marked the beginning of the author's long journey into his spiritual unfoldment. He later had visions of himself as a spiritual teacher. It is very interesting to note that in the author's youth, he suffered from a severe depression, had suicidal tendencies and was on the verge of committing suicide when a profound peace enveloped him and the author described a power that transformed him instantly. After this post depression period in his life and after fracturing his ankle practicing marshal arts, the author had a spiritual experience of encountering a great void and "just beyond" a presence and intelligence. When the author queried this intelligence as to what it was, the answer received was that there was no other and that the author and "Presence" were One. I believe this is the essence of the book that is so difficult to fathom that we share identity with this "Presence" ("God", "Absolute") but are simultaneously the "self" or "personality" It appears that the author's early vision of Jesus and the exhortation "to find my bones" led the author to a deeper spiritual enfoldment . Shortly afterwards, what the author describes as the "Isness inspirience", he went into a long depression for several years. No early visions, dreams, or spiritual experiences could compare with it and, I believe, the author was never able to understand or duplicate it completely. Perhaps describing it would be infinitely greater than explaining the difference between yellow and green to a person who never had the benefit of vision I believe the instructional exercises outlined in this book appear somewhat difficult to negotiate without the proper guidance and coaching. It should be noted, however, that the author does provide a number of videos and articles on his website free of charge. Another alternative would be the "Self Inquiry Method" outlined in various books by Ramana Maharashi and Paul Brunton In closing, achievement of "self realization", indeed, is no easy accomplishment. I'm reminded of the great mystic and psychic U.G. Krishnamurti who stated that there was no self realization, no prerequisite to it and that only one out of a billion people could ever achieve this state. U.G. described this state as a state of not knowing, which was not something that he ever hoped to achieve and, furthermore, the experience depended on the background of the individual. Notwithstanding the foregoing, this is a provocative, comprehensive and, most importantly, hopeful book which I would highly recommend

Amazing book, but not 100% accurate for me
On the topic personal profound spiritual visions, around 1 year ago I was a hardened atheist when I accidentally entered the spirit world and met a dragon god. She very definitely is not of the physical plane (though I have subsequently had physically interactions with her right here in the physical plane, as in IRL). She has her own identity, emotions, desires, and goals, what Ruchard would call 'of the mind', and she is very willing to do some dark things to send a message or get stuff done. After meeting her, my psychic abilities began opening up and other dragons started coming to me. The dragons I have met so far are extremely emotional and willful, and they are very interested in procreative activities. They are overwhelmingly powerful spiritual beings, and do share amazingly intense love with me, so intense that when it's focused on me it feels like my soul is burning, but they don't really match Richard's discription of the unbound soul, one who exists solely in the state of unconditioned love. So I'd say from the things that are hqppening to me personally now that while Richard's message is extremely good, it may not be completely applicable to everyone, depending on spiritual origins, and spirit family, etc. I think it's a great thing to strive for unconditioned love, but I'm also thrilled to look to the dragon god sitting here next to me as a living (just outside the physical plane) example showing that I can become a spirit and still maintain much of my personality, and a few vices, without issue.

Excellent! Richard's well written book inspires and instructs - very interesting and enlightening!
After a most unusual vision experience at age eight anchors his heart and soul to a commitment he did not fully understand, the author moves rather haphazardly (like most people) through many experiences -- humorous, surprising, embarrassing, challenging. As he overcomes a youthful learning weakness, and becomes skilled at martial arts and meditation, he also acquires a gift of understanding and intuitive vision that reveals to him, with considerable help from divine sources, the lessons that open his consciousness to the dire straits the world is in with its culture of fear, violence, ego, greed, and disunity. He is shown the tragic destructions that we are bringing upon ourselves, but also is told and shown what we can do to prevent or to survive them. Richard spends no time going into graphic detail of coming troubles. Instead, he confirms the impending apocalypse is real, and then, with dogged determination and the help of God-sent people to assist his journey, he is able to accomplish his mission, which is to provide the world with several chapters of important insight and methods to reconnect with one anothe r consciously and increase our ability to live in unity with all. While he holds out hope for the best outcome, he knows that many will not choose to awaken. Nevertheless, the principles revealed will help those who use them to endure and to survive.

Mostly based on his experience
I did not like it, there is some good information in there but mostly based on his experience.

I can't remember a more transformative book
Intensely rewarding. I had read the 1st (autobiographical) part of the book - available as a free pdf download and well worth reading in its own right. The remainder of the book looked more philosophical and I wasn't especially interested in someone else's theorising. Nevertheless I decided to buy the book and I'm very grateful that I did. The core of Haight's experience resonates with my own - and I'm sure countless others. But he places it within an over-arching context that effortlessly and with grace draws out the essence of the impulse that has led to the creation of all the world religions and that rests comfortably with the further reaches of modern science. One of the things that rings deeply true to me is the humility of Haight's vision. I've been grappling in recent times with how humanity can envision a positive, sustaining and sustainable future, rather than the bleak future we seem to have created for ourselves with our unconscious actions. Unexpectedly, this book brought a compelling and inspiring answer. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th parts of the book contain many useful exercises and perspectives. It is worth buying for the Observing Meditation alone but there are many other riches, for example Haight's observation that we worship with our attention primarily. How much of our attention is directed to the self, he asks innocently... I haven't yet had an opportunity to explore the Dance of Self to any degree but am hoping I will be able to. Chronic pain has been deterring me and yet I somehow sense that the Dance may help with this.. If you feel any drawing to read this book, know that it has the potential to transform your life.

Transcending the false ego
In "The Unbound Soul," author Richard L. Haight takes a common theme in the realm of Metaphysical books, namely the road to connecting with the unchanging, formless, true Self which resides within us all. The key lies in stilling those incessant trains of thought in order to reach it. Haight shows us how to reach what he calls the "Isness" within by revealing his own unique meditation method as well as insights he gained from a series of eye-opening and very insightful mystical experiences that revealed realties far beyond what ordinary consciousness can perceive or imagine. The bottom line: removing the veil that stands between the thinking mind and the eternal bliss that lies behind it creates a pathway to reduced suffering. That's something worth reaching for and Haight makes it all seem entirely achievable.

Incredible
Very bold, enlightening and powerful book to guide your spiritual journey. I read it slowly to digest some of the authors experiences leading to powerful guidance for those just starting out. Some insights are priceless. I've no words to express gratitude for some of the deep wisdom shared in this book. Thanks Richard L Haight.

For those looking for the one book on meditation that covers all.
The book is the quintessential road map to illumination for meditation practitioners at any level - beginner to advanced, step by step. What is it, what to expect, goals and pitfalls. Not a book to read in one go but to consult at every stage of your spiritual growth.

Excellent read
It started a bit slow, in my humble opinion, but soon transformed into what I consider to be essential reading for anyone interested in pursuing a spiritual journey towards actualisation.

Insightful read
I am well into this book in one sitting! Itโs an easy read and the author is very down to Earth in his descriptions of his experiences. He does not have the depth of an author such as Wayne Dyer or the aesthetic writing of other spiritual authors but itโs a fascinating read and a message we need in these times.
