What material are the slats made out of?

Wood! This is the best bed ever!!! Absolutely no noise or creaking!!

How big is the gap underneath the headboard? If we have a 12 inch mattress will there be any type of gap?

Gap between headboard and bed frame is about 18 cm. I have same thickness mattress, and there is no any gaps visible.

Is this easily disassembled for moving?

Yes, it should come apart even easier than it went together.It is all metal screws and insert, nothing to bind.

Why is the wood darker then the advertised pictures ?

Because the wood in the advertisement is lighter
