White's Woods Pen Blank - Purple Heart, Zebrawood, Sapele, Walnut, Padauk

These blanks were delivered quickly and as advertised! Some reviews have stated the purpleheart is not very purple, I have learned from online that adding heat or sunlight will brighten it, mine were fine, but I have used a heat gun in the past and gotten more color out of basically brown purpleheart.

I didn’t order these for pens. I used the pieces to craft a couple cutting boards and a charcuterie board as gifts. My first time ever attempting to do that. Most of the blanks were pretty straight and with some sanding I was able to use all but one piece of the black walnut, which wasn’t straight at all…but no worries as I used it for sawdust for an inlay (not shown). I’m sure for a pen; it would have been fine. Overall, the pieces were nice quality and color. Once sanded and oiled, they really shined up and are quite pretty.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Excellent!

My father requested a wood turning pen kit. The pen...insides? Innards? Were sold separately and this was a frequently bought together item so i decided to follow, thinking maybe they were strips to wrap around the pen. Nope they are blocks of wood. They are nice blocks of wood. Very solid, like a tree. Im assuming you all who know wood turning would firstly not be surprised they are blocks of wood, and secondly be pleased with their timber. Smooth lumber. Colors of brown. Yes, very nice blocks of wood.
