Q: is the product affective in france?

It has some European data but this isn't updated every week like the UK data so will not be as reliable. A better product for Europe would be the DriveSmart Alpha which has physical radar and laser detection in addition to the database, but be aware both these products are illegal in France and some other European countries.

No I am afraid not. You cannot power it from the USB port, that is just for database updates. It does need a 12v socket to use I am afraid. This is the same for all the DriveSmart products.

No, although the laser sensor would, it only has a database for Europe, which is the main part of the product.

Q: I attached the evo to the windscreen mount, but it won't come apart again, however hard i pull. am i doing something wrong, or is it a permanent fix?

It should pull straight out with a small amount of resistance. Might be worth sticking it to the windscreen and then trying it. I remove my evo at the end of each day and leave the bracket in place..
