Seagate Barracuda 2 TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 8.89 cm (3.5 Inch) SATA 6 Gb/s 5400 RPM 256 MB Cache for Computer Desktop PC (ST2000DM005)

First of all, I would like to tell you that the hard drive came in a plastic case and there was no bubble wrap or any kind of protection for shipping purposes. This really gave me a shock and I thought that hard drive would not have survived its journey. But luckily, the hard drive worked just fine. I am writing this review after 6 to 7 months of usage. Already I can tell that the hard drive works really good. I am using it to backup my data. Please note that the hard drive can be used for the operating system installation but is not recommended and will lead to shortening it's life. I use it along side a 250gb m.2 nvm express SSD (model A2000). The hard drive provides adequate data transfer speed. It is also darm easy to install in the hard drive 3.5inch bay of a normal ATX cabinet. The price that I got this for is 4999 Indian Rupee. Overall, I would recommend this hard drive to everyone. But if you want more redundancy, than look of a Seagate ironwolf NAS drive(network attached storage drive) with a capacity of 4 tb. It would cost you around 10000 rupee so the price to storage ration remains constant. The picture included is the plastic case that I got the hard drive. The hard drive inside it however is a different one as I have installed the 2tb seagate hdd in my pc cabinet.

If you want to save your data and then read at fast speed, then this HDD is for you at low cost. But If you want to install windows 10 on this HDD, then you will face lag issue. Because this drive is not made to handle much faster write speed. Also if you planning for RAD then it's not for you because in RAD config, lot's of write operations is there. This HDD is SMR, SMR is best to store data and read any time. If you planning to install windows then go for CMR HDD. You can identify SMR and CMR HDD drive by looking Cache memory, if it 256MB then it's a SMR and if its cache memory is 64MB then it's CMR. Remember less cache memory doesn't mean it's slow, CMR HDD are faster then SMR HDD. Advantage of CMR HDD is it's both read and write speed are equal in Seagate barracuda its around 180MBps. Look in image, Benchmark show its read is 161MBps but I bet you will also get 190MBps speed. write speed in benchmark is 156MBps but you will not always get that much speed, write speed is near about 128MBps. Final word, It's good HDD but only for storage/Archive.

I ordered this and got one which seemed faulty. My PC already had one WD 1TB SATA disk and I wanted to add one extra drive as my backup drive. The first drive that came was not working properly. I tried to troubleshoot and saw that many articles are suggesting to check the power and data cable. I knew that there is no issue with my motherboard as it is already detecting another SATA drive and all other SATA ports are enabled. So, I swapped the power and data cable without any success. I ordered a replacement, it was delivered to me on the next day; I connected to my PC with same cables and it started working like a magic. It gives you 1869 GB of effective storage, which I think is great in this price range.

The drives are very low quality. I may be one of the many customers who is having the same issue as most of the customers have of this drive. The drive worked only for a few months then it started making a click sound and drive suddenly becomes unresponsive. The drive stops reading and writing and the head is constantly making the click sound. The drive finally gave blue screen error and then a black screen appeared S. M. A. R. T. status is bad backup and replace. I gave the drive to seagate warranty but they said data recovery is not covered so lost all data and i did the RMA to seagate and returned their product and after a week they gave me a refurbished drive note that this is not a new drive but a used and repaired drive which is fit for normal use that drive was given to me as replacement which i received and installed in my pc and used it for a week and guess what happened! This drive also malfunctioned the same way as the original drive malfunctioned that too in a week only. Imagine the shock and pain you have to go through to see the drive that seagate dispatches to you after certifying it as refurbished product that too is also not reliable. Now i am currently sending this refurbished drive also for RMA to seagate warranty service becauae this also is not working. Can you believe it. The pain and stress you have to go through while backing up and restoring data twice can not be said in words. Also there is no data recovery warranty so rely on your god and luck for whatever portion of data you can backup cause if drive goes completely malfunctioned then forget whatever data you have to get back. The memories of your life that you want to cherish is all gone. All because seagate has exported really low quality products which does not seem to pass any reliability test of any type and just dumped them all to india. Very bitter experience from seagate. Never buying any storage media or any electronic product from this company. Also the packaging that was done by AMAZON and APPARIO clearly showed their ignorance regarding how a product sensitive like hard drive shoud be packed and given. The packaging was of very inferior quality and AMAZON really does not know how handle logistics of sensitive products. Never buying any seagate product for me and probably never order any eletronics good from amazon anymore. 🙅🙅🙅😠😠😠🙅🙅🙅

Product is quite good, running well over 2 years now

Working very well. No complaints till now. It's been more than a year

One of the worst packaging i have ever seen for a item this crucial. Felt i ordered some veggies off amazon. Click retail was the seller. Though drive is good but they did the worst possible job while packaging it. As for the drive out of 2tb only 1.81tb is usuable. Format it in GPT partition and you are good to go. Also, do book Sata 3 cable alongside, because they don't provide it. They don't even send warranty card or anything with it, just the drive.
