I was looking for something that was reliable sounded great, and had a good feature set
I looked at buying a few different mixers before deciding on this one. I was looking for something that was reliable sounded great, and had a good feature set. This mixer is great for a few reasons 1) It's yamaha. They are generally pretty reliable. I own other yamaha music equipment and haven't had any issues with any of those items 2) Has good fx including a compressor. The mic compressor alone makes this product so much better then other mixers in terms of versatility. For recording its nice to have a little compression for the vocal before it hits the AD converter. 3) You can use this as an interface. I can't comment on its use as a an interface as I own a universal audio solo 610 interface that I love. But its a good feature to have. 4) The reverb: sounds wonderful. Particularly room 1, fx 3. It helps to glue everything together and put it in the same space. 5) The use the fx send and it has been great for a ton of uses. I use it mostly as an external bus. Whats great here is that you can use the internal effect like say a reverb and mix in a little. You can simultaneously use the fx send and send out to a delay unit, and then place the return on another channel. Other units its fx send or internal fx, you won't be able to use both. 6) Feels sturdy and seems well built. So far i've had it on well over 20 hours of use and its been good. I'll update this in a few months. 7) Value. For the money if you compare the comparable mixers like behringer and mackie I think the choice is clear. Both of the former companies have reliability issues. Mackie preamps are good but fx are bad. Behringer preamps are hit and miss but fx are good. Yamaha is overall great. Cons: For me nothing really except I wish the EQ had three bands for every channel. And I wish I could have an fx send that wasn't tied to the internal fx.

Perfect for this semi-serious podcaster
Purchased as an at home or event option to mix a podcast when we canโt make it to the studio. Iโd consider myself a novice when it comes to gear, and just a little picky when it comes to quality, just so you know the angle Iโm approaching this with. Here were some highlights for me: - With the right mics in the right space, the quality of audio and control we get with this little guy was surprisingly good. - Really sturdy, and fairly compact for what you get. - simple to set up with Adobe Audition to record - I get really level recordings with minimal tweaking to the settings. Its easier to match my low volume speakers with high volume speakers compared to some more expensive/complex mixers Iโve used. - I donโt use the effects much. While they are fun to play with, Iโll note theyโre a little tedious to change on the fly, but you can only expect so much for how compact they are here. I love the texture the โphone callโ effects add. If anyone ever does a bit where someone is playing a call-in guest, it sounds great. - Doesnโt record individual tracks, so test those levels before you record and be wary of speakers who drift from the mic. - While you cant split and control levels of several sets of headphones with just the mixer, you can get three pairs of headphones to work if you don't mind using the left out, right out, and stereo outputs all at once. Suitable option for less picky podcast hosts. - Iโve seen some reviews where people mention the mixer getting hot. I haven't experienced this yet, and Iโve used this mixer for almost a year. It was accidentally left on for about 4 hours after recording once and still didn't feel surprisingly warm to the touch. My round-up: for a non-gear-head podcaster, this mixer provided the right balance of ease of use, quality, and price for my needs.

Fantastic , but not happy about cord packaged in typical figure 8 , it will never straighten out.
...Then number one thing on stage is how you sound, however, looking good (as best we can) is also important. Yamaha goes out of there way to make us look bad and create dangerous trip hazards; The cord is sent to you wadded up in a figure at , so you have a serpintine power cord that will always look like trash and become a trip hazard, add insult to injury they give you a humongous power supply , that is in the middle of the cord, it should be integrated or a foot or so from the wall socket/power source end. There is NO excuse for anyone to send you a waded up figure 8 cord, a round coil never takes up more room and runs a straight line when you uncoil it, shame on yamaha, not to go over the trip hazard again, but it is also there. One last minor issue is that I would prefer the grounds on the balanced mic cords to be reversed or oriented toward the top or backside of the mixer, cause I like to used 90angle low profile balanced outs, so the can only run straight across the board in my case. Thats the bad stuff , now the good; Love the unit itself, I didn't even open the manual if it came with one, pretty intuitive if you've ever had a mixing board with onboard effects. The effects are limited to one at a time or a preset mix, which is really bad for some, but I'm fine with it, I only need one basic sound. I like effect 4, I turn it way up on my vocal channel and about 1/2 or less in the global sound pretty natural to my ears. The unit itself also looks great, layout is good, sound is great, of course you need decent active/powered speakers to go along with it and a good mic , as is true in most cases today. There is no noise when I turn the power switch on or off, while speakers are on, bravo, that is nice. I place this on a music stand, with notepad by its side, I have the music stand fixed, so the tray can't possibly swivel, before I locked it in by drilling and bolting the weight of the unit would cause it to spill everything on the ground, music stands aren't made for that kind of weight, but it makes things very convenient, and when fixed' , pretty bullet proof. I strap cables to the stand so they exit the area low as opposed to high, you can figure out why lol..... I read numerous reviews on like priced boards, chose this one , with maybe a feature here or there missing, or features I don't need added, but the cores is there and reliability was rated above pretty much all the others, so for an extra $20.00 approx, I got something that I have a pretty good idea won't develope scratchy/noisy pots, and naggling fails after 6 mos or a year. One issue that many of you will see as a plus is the connectivity , I did not want any of that, I just wanted a great live performance machine, and hoped that the developement money and components would not suffer do to features that I don't need nor want. Overall, I'm very happy with the board itself.

What you need
I been using the Yamaha MG10XU 10-Input Stereo Mixer for some time now, and I must say itโs a fantastic piece of audio equipment that has greatly improved my sound setup. First and foremost, the build quality is exceptional. The mixer feels robust and durable, and all the knobs and switches have a solid, professional feel to them. This instills confidence that the unit will stand up to the rigors of regular use. Sound quality is where the MG10XU truly shines. The microphone preamps are clean and transparent, capturing audio with impressive clarity. The EQ controls are precise and allow for fine-tuning, which is essential for achieving the desired sound. Whether Iโm recording music or running sound for live events, this mixer consistently delivers outstanding audio quality. The built-in effects processor is a notable feature of the MG10XU. It offers a variety of high-quality effects that can enhance vocals or instruments. The ability to apply effects without needing external processors is a significant advantage, especially for live performances. The USB connectivity is a real game-changer for me. It allows for easy integration with recording software, making it a versatile choice for home studios. The mixer also serves as a reliable audio interface, which simplifies the recording process. One thing I appreciate is the intuitive layout of the controls. Even if youโre new to mixing, youโll find it relatively easy to navigate and start producing great sound quickly. The inclusion of LED level meters is a helpful addition for monitoring signal levels. In summary, the Yamaha MG10XU 10-Input Stereo Mixer is a top-notch audio mixer that offers exceptional sound quality, durability, and versatility. Whether youโre a musician, podcaster, or sound engineer, this mixer is an excellent choice that can elevate your audio production to the next level.

Great sound and features.
This is a high quality, great sounding mixer that's easy to set up and use. I originally bought the 10 channel version to connect media source (iTunes/Apple Music) to existing amplifier for practicing drums. Once I got it, I connected a few low quality mics to my Kick and snare drum and Oh Man! this really woke up my drums. I immediately bought the 12 channel version to mic up the rest of my drums (8 pc set) and record my playing. PROs: Easy set up (plug and play to MacBook via USB for playback (Apple Music) and recording (Garage Band) with great sound using 5 low end mics. (2 overhead, kick, hats and snare). FX really adds to overall sound/experience. Excellent mixer for live performances. CONs: Only has 6 mic inputs and 6 balanced (RCA-1/4" Phono jacks) so I wasn't able to mic up my additional 6 toms (used overhead mics for toms and cymbals). Also, the "final mix" is done on the mixer itself, pre recording, meaning the output is stereo only (2 tracks using left/right if you use pan knobs on 2 channels) vs. multi track recording, so no adjustments/fine tuning can be done on individual channels/mics in the mix post recording. Due to the cons and wanting "best of both worlds" (live performance with multi track recording) and more importantly, more mic inputs for toms. I ended up returning this mixer. I've considered the 16 and 20 channel versions of this mixer by Yamaha but overall cost would get me more inputs but still not have multitrack adjustment flexibility post recording. Leaning towards an audio interface by PreSonus or Focusrite for recording and possibly feed the output of that to the 6 or 10 channel Yamaha MG**XU for live/practice. This is a great mixer and sorry I had to return it. I would definitely recommend this mixer if you don't need excessive mic inputs with multi track, post recording processing.

Outstanding Compact Mixer for Mobile DJ Gigs
The Yamaha MG10XU is a game-changer for mobile DJs like meโits D-PRE mic preamps deliver crystal-clear sound, and the built-in SPX effects (reverb, delay) add polish to mixes without extra gear. With 4 XLR/TRS combo inputs, 1-knob compressors on two channels, and USB recording straight to my laptop running Serato DJ Pro, itโs perfect for weddings and parties up to 100 people. Whatโs most important to know? Super portable and rugged for road use, though the back panel can get warm during long setsโnothing a quick break doesnโt fix. Paired flawlessly with my Pioneer DDJ-FLX10, QSC KC12 speakers, and Shure mics; easy EQ and phantom power make setup a breeze for Latin, hip-hop, and club nights. Other customers should know: This mixerโs versatility shines in small-to-medium events.

Yamaha. The best.
This thing is Industry standard ready and good as it gets far as im concerned. Mixes perfect with any proper gear I've thrown at it and records on cubase perfectly which is just as great of a program and all you really need for a DAW, and it comes with that too if you dont have it already. You really should. Make the right choice. It's also completly gig proof, delivery driver proof, and idiot proof, so it survives my daily use. So is Cusbase. Oh and it gets hot, because it's suppsed to, not burning hot indoors at 25c, but it's working good as it's overdriven preamps design were intended. It's yamaha, it works fine. It don't break. M audio, behringer, things like that, broken, don't even have industry standard sound processors or hardware, just fine china. When you do sort through all the company propaganda and ads, youll find their top tier actual industry standart gear is like the same price or even more than, actual industry standard gear. Get an Art tube basic tube amp, some Shure sm57 or 58 if you have too, and some instruments, pedals, proper gain and preamps, soundsystem style, outboard gear. Analog. Mix and master in Cuebase intuitively, actually finish a project, and tools to polish it up if needed. The original one I sold after 10 years use was still in perfect condition. This model I prefer and would recommend. The Cubase v4 that came with it is still running my projects and samples etc on an old IBM and integrates with all the new stuff as well. Keep it up Yamaha. The best. I got on a ton of other sequencers DAW and what not and found the workflow completely inferior, counterproductive to put it nicely. Stop fiddling around with crap and get your music done right fellas. Enjoy. Free and goot VST's VST3 now I suppose and all sorts of good helpers on cuebase if you find the right bunch.

One of the best Analog Audio Mixer for Live Performance / Home Studio
I was confused for USB interface vs mixers vs Karaoke/ independent microphones. I wanted a setup to cover both live vocal and instrumental performances with option to record to PC or pod-casting. I did some research for beginner to intermediate level home studio setup. Also visited a professional recording studio before finalizing this amateur setup. If you're confused whether to go for USB audio interface or mixer: 1) USB audio interfaces with RCA input/ line inputs - go for this if you want to RECORD audio from a mixer, amplifier or any other AV device that has AV output. This can work to record cassette / CD player audio to your computer. This is the cheapest option with reasonable quality. Behringer gives most cost effective options. 2) USB audio interfaces with both mic and line inputs- these are good for recording from AV source and mic input particularly for recording live music performance with instruments. Costlier than 1 above and the cost increases as you look for more inputs sources. Example, Focusrite Scarlet, Behringer, Steinberg, Zoom etc. 3) Audio Mixers: You need a mixer, if you've multiple input sources. Do not go for audio interface with many inputs - you'll not get results with desired flexibility. ** Go for a mixer with as many inputs as you need for live performance and add USB audio interface for recording.** You're good to go for both live performance, recording to PC, pod-casting, Karaoke performances. Example, Yamaha, Mackie, Behringer, Steinberg etc. There are analog audio mixers with USB interface (like this MG10XU), but the recording results over USB are not as expected (USB sound output is too low) unless you go for costly digital mixers. I went for UCA222 with this Yamaha MG10XU that gives best possibility for all possible combinations for an professional quality amateur home studio. The download of Cubase available with this is trouble-free from Steinberg, but it is too huge and technical for beginners. Audacity is a better option for beginners. Windows 10 recognizes MG10XU as recording device and configure the drivers. Personally, I'm satisfied with recording via MG10XU USB interface to Audacity with some Amplification effect. This model MG10XU is a piece of beauty and quality. Nice value for money. The built, finish, presentation is good and controls' handling is smooth. The sound quality rendered by Yamaha is excellent and the effects are good. You'll need a lot of cables and connector/ converters, so research before you buy accessories to minimize cables, connections and converters. Went for Yamaha instead of Mackie or Berhinger for better chances of support in India. PS: Professional mixing and recording is quite different consideration. Above holds good for small to medium home or amateur setup.
