DK's computer coding books are full of fun exercises with step-by-step guidance, making them the perfect introductory tools for building vital skills in computer programming. Review: Good coding 101 book for kids - I got a B.S. in computer science education and a Ph.D. in computer science and am working as a software engineer. I chose this book to teach my son and his friends. This book helps kids create simple games, animations, etc., using Scratch. Kids should at least know how to use Scratch. They should also know concepts like loops, conditional statements, variables, events, and sprites.. This book also explains these concepts but it is very superficial. Your kids don't know them? Don't worry. You can learn all the concepts mentioned above for free on code.org site. I recommend learning the concepts there before starting this book. My son, a fourth grader, and his friend completed the basic concepts on code.org over about 12 hours. (about 6 weeks) This book introduces 18 small projects. Each project consists of about 10 pages. It is structured with step-by-step explanations to complete the basic projects and assignments to add additional features. Before starting each project, you can search for the project on the Scratch website to see what others have done. You can show this to the kids to set goals. Don't expect to learn any algorithms through this book. This book helps kids create sprites and backgrounds on the screen and code them to interact. I highly recommend this book for elementary school students! Review: Great Book! - My child loves these series and enjoys creating games very much!

Read before buying...
My child was recently introduced to Scratch- a programming language used in his computer programming club. After reading many reviews and discussions with other parents, I invested in this book. I can safely say that the book helped him understand what is required to better his craft in programming. Plus, the book was delivered on time.

My kids LOVE this book!!!
This coding book is the BEST! I love that while my kids are behind a screen, they are also learning at the same time (not playing mindless Roblox games), even though it “feels” like gaming. I’m all about STEM projects and this one is fantastic. It’s also great as it’s forcing them to read and follow instructions. I have recommended this to other parents since buying it for my own, and their kids have also loved it. If you’re looking for a summer activity to keep the kids busy on rainy days or a special occasion, I can’t recommend this enough!

Awesome! Give the kick start that your kids deserve
This is a great resource to get your young ones to get their hands dirty with Scratch and computer programming in altogether. My 9 year old simply uses this book as a reference and has now learned scratch and programming concepts like loops, memory and logics while having fun coding games and videos!! Save your kids from video games by giving this great resource and hook them up for their future success. Even my 5 year old is enjoying seeing his brother code and follows up the book codes which are beautifully illustrated to learn scratch on his own. :)
