One of Studio Ghibli’s most beloved classics, Totoro celebrates its 25th anniversary! The beloved animation classic by legendary Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki, My Neighbor Totoro , is now a novel. This edition features original illustrations by Miyazaki himself, accompanying a story by veteran children’s author Tsugiko Kubo. Eleven-year-old Satsuki and her sassy little sister Mei have moved to the country to be closer to their ailing mother. Soon, in the woods behind their spooky old house, Satsuki and Mei discover a forest spirit named Totoro. When Mei goes missing, it’s up to Satsuki to find her sister, and she’ll need help from some new, and magical, friends. Review: Everyone should read this - Best book ever! I just love Totoro actually but this book has details tha don’t come across in the movie. Review: The story is community and family... not just any other book - I want to first emphasize this is not a book just for girls. this is a book for family and the understanding of life in general for younger kids. My younger boy and I love this book. The story is about how to overcome difficulties. We do not have many Satsuki's in this world, especially in america, because many of us tend to spoil our children instead of allowing them to learn for themselves. Yet, for the few kids who learn to lift up for themselves, many of these kids do not share many family values. This story is about the love for the family and the love for life, the Love for お父さん, the love for お母さん, the love for Mei... The story mixes with a lot of realism. If readers think this is a feel good story, then they miss a lot about what the book is all about. This book is definitely better than the movie.

I bought this for my daughters birthday, she absolutely loved it! She is a big fan of the movie and this was the perfect gift. It came quick, was in perfect condition, and was everything I could have asked for. Thank you for a wonderful product. I love the fact it was not a picture book. Just enough pictures to remind her of some of her favorite scenes. I might just have to borrow it from her since I am a totoro fan too ;)

Beautiful Cover, Great Story
I purchased this book for my 11 year old daughter after we started watching the movie. First off, I would like to discuss the binding and cover of the book. When you pick it up, it just feels special. The pressed board and textured hard cover make this book feel substantial and real, unlike many of the cheaper books you might buy today. The artwork on the front and inside of the covers is really beautiful (the photo on the website does it no justice.) If you want to be swept away into a different time and place, this is the book to do it with. So far my daughter has read three chapters and gotten some story holes from the movie filled in (what illness the mother had, what the girls' names mean...) which I believe is helping her appreciate reading the book more. If it was just the story in the movie it would be great, but expanding on the story gives her the "insider" knowledge to make her want to keep reading. After she finishes, I believe I'm going to read it as well!

Wonderful book
I am a very Studio Ghibli fan and this book is so lovely. Obviously the content of the book is indescriptible (I love Totoro) but the quality of the book surprised me, seem I have a treasure in my hands! I wanted to read the book instead of watching the movie which I have done several times already and I do not regret buying this one. Easy to read, easy to carry and the text size is very comfortable.

Great gift
I bought this book for my daughter. She loves the movie totoro and was very excited to open the book. She is a bit young for it, but she likes me to read it to her. I think she will enjoy it even more when she is old enough to read it herself. She especially liked the map in the beginning of the book. She liked seeing where all the places in the story were located. There were not very many pictures and I do think they could have added a few more. What I liked most about the book was the quality. I definitely see it making a home on my daughter's shelf, rather then ending up in the storage bins we use for books. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a totoro fan.
