Yale Assure Lock 2 Touchscreen with Wi-Fi and Ridgefield Handle in Black Suede

This set looks great and gives my home even better curb appeal. I was a little intimidated to install it myself but found a local handyman to help and took less than 30 minutes altogether. Setup on the app for smart functions was 5 minutes.

I have installed four of these locks on my homes and they are great. Location services fumbles every now and then and doesn't unlock my door when I arrive at home, but 95% it does. Works great for letting friends and contractors in when needed. I highly recommend.

Easy installation. Easy to use, with a nice interface on our smartphone.

I have the first generation of the Yale Assure Lock with the August module and have been pleased with both the lock and the integration with Alexa. My favorite feature so far has been when she mentions the back door is unlocked and asks if it should be locked. So when I was looking to replace the front door lock, I went for the newer version with the key and wifi. I will always recommend the keyed version despite the other versions looking so streamlined because I know you can get into the house with the key if something goes wrong with the lock. Yes, you are supposed to be able to use a 9 volt battery to revive the lock so you can access the house, but a key is easier in my opinion.Gone are the days of needing a bridge to connect to wifi which is great, but I have read that the battery life is only three months.I have not yet installed the door sensor which tells you if the door is open or shut. There are actually two options for this. One option is a sensor that is screwed to the door frame and the other option is a small sensor which requires a hole to be drilled into the door frame. I am not thrilled with either option for my door and so have been debating.Installation was easy, but I have installed lots of locks. I had no problem also getting everything set up in the app. The app isnt the best with some lags, but I actually rarely use it other than to send me alerts when the door is unlocked. All of my interactions are through my Echo or physically at the door.The lock looks nice and it works well. My favorite features include the ability to give out codes to enter the house that I can then disable once that person no longer needs access. But the integration with Alexa is icing on the cake. I can set locking the doors as part of a routine I created for Alexa at night. She turns off lights and locks the doors and reminds me if I haven’t locked the doors. And no more leaving the house for a trip and wondering if the door is locked. I can just check my phone.

The media could not be loaded. I recieved this in an attempt to replace the previous generation Yale Assure Lock. The first model eventually had a stiff, sticky feeling deadbolt that the auto lock failed to open all the way. Shown in the attached pictures are the gen 1 Assure Lock and the Assure Lock 2 deadbolt included with this product. The gen 1 seems to have twisted in it's housing, causing it to bind with the cylinder and prevent it from working propperly. Yale has addressed this by making a grooved channel for the deadbolt to slide on and keep in track. We shall see if this is enough.The hardware itself is fairly strait forward if you're not intimidated by standard door hardware. Once you get into the setting up the electronic features, is when you need to pay attention. The root of my problems come from attempting to switch the included Yale Access module with the batteries in the lock. It says it in small print in your instructions not to do this, but of course, I'm not paying enough attention to those to keep myself from doing damage. If removed with the batteries in, the Yale Access App cannot recognize the lock. Being the idiot I am, instead of thoroughly checking instructions, I tried the old lock's z-wave Cartridge.This brings the next problem. The Yale Assure Lock 1 had a settings menu with voice Navigation that would let you set up most of the built in features of the lock without app support.The Yale Assure Lock 2 has no obvious navigation support outside of programing with the app. You can access what seem to be menus but they are just randomly lit buttons on the keypad with a generic tone. You cannot program the lock without app support or what is probably a proprietary menu guide that is not included with the instructions. This left the lock as useful as a keyed deadbolt until I could get time to work on it some more.I worked with Yale support to get this resolved and they were quick and helpful, even on a Saturday morning. After walking me through the factory reset process (which I thought I had tired already but didn't work), the module was now being recognized and they even patiently walked me through updating the firmware and setting up the connected features. They were a big help and remedied my disappointment in the ease of install to being impressed with the features available.
