Lacking where it counts most
I wanted to like these brake levers from XLC . They look really nice but , like the another XLC product I purchased in the past , they just aren't as well built as they appear . My problem with these brake levers is the return spring that they used . It is very soft steel and much cheaper than most other brands use . How do I know this ? When I went to install the cable , I pulled the lever out a little ways and the spring end just popped out of it's retaining hole with only the slightest of pressure applied . After examination , I noticed the spring end was not bent at a 90 degree angle like it should've been . It was more like 60 degrees which did not hold at all . And of course the soft material used for the spring didn't help the problem any . I could easily bend the spring to the proper 90 but these levers are cheaply pressed together too so there is no way to disassemble/repair them if this happens . Sharp looking but lacking in build quality and quality control .

Great.
Back when cantilever brakes were a thing, the levers were huge and bulky. Nowadays, our old classics need an upgrade, but some of us want something more sleek and new.For this reason, I buy these for my cantilever needs. They definitely work better than a stock shimano gs200 or any old plastic one. Bottom line, they're good and cheap, and they don't look too bad either. They are more ergonomic for my hands mostly because the design is less bulky. Some have mentioned that the barrel adjusters are loose fitting and they strip; not looseness or stripping for me (yet).I recommend them for your down and dirty bike rebuild or upgrade. You won't regret it.

Pleasantly surprised by how well they work for this price.
I've bought a seat, and V-brake levers and pads, made by XLC, in the past. I bought these canti-levers to replace some older and bulkier Shimano 100GS levers that took up too much space on my new handlebars. These levers work equally as well and are probably a bit stronger. Braking may have actually improved and if you have cantilever brakes, improvement is what you're looking for. I also purchased an XLC cable and it's good for a basic replacement. Be clear, the cable adjusters are loose fitting and strip easily...something XLC needs to improve if they haven't already. Save your old adjusters and install them if they fit, or leave them screwed all-the-way-in and adjust your brakes at the other end of the cable like I do.

They solved my problem, a nice upgrade from what I had before
Very pleased to find these. Trying to keep a 26-year-old bike alive. The original shifters died. After installing a more modern shifter set, there was not enough room on the handlebars for the old brake levers, which needed to be replaced anyway due to excessive flex. The old brake levers did not have metal casings. These are lighter, stronger, metal, and work great with the original cantilever brakes. And take up less handlebar real estate. I would definitely recommend.

Wait, stop!
Nice bolt on replacement levers for my son's Razor MX500 electric dirt bike. These are much more sturdy and durable than the plastic factory levers. They would be equally suited for a bicycle or small scooter but I would not recommend them for a motorcycle

Review
Kind of cheaply made but after all they were cheap. Still well worth the cost.
