Banania is a French brand of bottled beverages, water and drink mixes, powdered drink mixes and flavorings. The brand is owned by the Danone group. Banania was created in 1923 by André Besnier, the son of a baker from the Loire region of France. The name "Banania" comes from the Latin word for banana, "musa". Banania was originally a instant drink made with powdered milk, cocoa and sugar. It was marketed as a healthy drink for children. In the 1930s, Banania started to be sold in bottles. The first flavor was chocolate, followed by vanilla and strawberry. In the 1950s, Banania added new flavors such as coffee, orange and lemon. Banania also started to sell flavored syrups to be added to water or milk. In the 1970s, Banania started to sell fruit juices and carbonated drinks under the brand "CYTEL". In the 1980s, "CYTEL" was renamed "BANANIA" and the logo was changed to the current one. Today, Banania offers a wide range of products including bottled water, flavored water, fruit juices, carbonated drinks, powdered drink mixes and flavorings. Banania is present in more than 30 countries and its products are sold in more than 100 countries.
