Irwin Tools IRWIN Marples Forstner Bit Set, Wood Drilling, 8 Piece (1966892)

I was looking for a set of forstner bits to cut holes for scroll saw projects. I have used Irwin tools many times in the past and have been satisfied with their quality, so I decided to give the Irwin forstner bits a try after reading the reviews. The case is very well designed. The bits are very sharp and durable. The type of wood I have used the bits on so far has been primarily poplar wood which is a softer hardwood, so I can not attest to how the bits will work with the harder woods, but for what I need them for, they have performed as well if not better than expected.The case that the bits are enclosed in is very secure. Unlike some cases I have had, the bits do not drop out when opened if upside down, they are secure and have to be intentionally removed.It was a very good price and I am very pleased with this forstner bit set.I would highly recommend this bit set.

Nice set of bits. Sharp and cut good.

Super sharp bits and chew through wood quickly. I use them currently almost exclusively for building birdhouses which I make a lot of in the spring time. Might seem like an insignificant project but these bits chew through cedar better than bits I have used in the past. Leaves and very nice clean hole especially if you use a sacrificial piece behind it.

This was my first set of Forstner bits after struggling with paddle bits for 90% of my life. What a difference! These came with a light coating of oil to prevent corrosion, so be aware of that, but these hog through wood like nothing else. They've allowed me to drill clean holes in thinner plywood that would've otherwise blown out on the backside. You still need to exercise caution when drilling through thin materials, but I do feel like the quality of the holes was far superior to those of any other large bit I've used.

Ordered these Forstner bits to bore out deer antlers to make finger rings. The set came with a lot of sizes for me to have the ability to size different rings. They chewed right through antlers like butter and bored a perfect, smooth, clean hole. Price and product were both great. Highly recommend adding these bits to your toolbox.
