Ceiling mount or wall mount. Easy setup. Fast wi-fi 6 connection from my iPhone16.

This AX1800 "Ethernet Access Point" (EAP) unit is for ceiling mount or wall mount. There are no provisions to use this on a desktop or counter top. That said, you can use the wall mount instructions and hang this EAP on a nail in the wall using the enclosed twist tie. There is a sentence in the instructions "This product requires heat dissipation through the metal bracket during use, please be careful not to touch the metal bracket in the heat dissipation." I have no idea under what conditions this EAP can generate enough heat to need dissipation being powered by a 12 Volt 1 Amp Power adaptor. I checked mine after 24 hours of operation and it is barely warm to the touch. I installed one downstairs hanging off the back of the TV cabinet and SPEEDTEST showed 432 download and 418 upload. I installed one upstairs hanging on the wall between the ethernet jack and the electrical plug and it showed 555 download and 411 upload. In a room nearby through a wall with insulation in it, SPEEDTEST showed 249 download and 179 upload. These two units replaced some Netgear WAS104 wireless access points with 802.11ac. A recent iPhone upgrade from iPhone 11 to iPhone 16 encouraged the wifi upgrade. my ISP is AT&T 1 GB service. A desktop plugged into the router just showed 623 download and 411 upload. The other numbers were using Safari on the iPhone 16. I did the standalone mode setup using the Safari web browser on the iPhone. I had to trust the https://tplinkeap.net site since Safari did not trust that site since I was connected to tp-link's startup SSID. After that one hoop to jump through, I could setup an ID and password for the EAP and then fill in my SSIDs and wifi passwords. I'd say this was easy setup and it has wi-fi 6 speeds at an affordable price.

Much Faster Wi-Fi speed than an Xfinity Pod

I had a virtual Wi-Fi dead spot at one end of my house, and tried a Xfinity Pod to boost the speed. This helped a little, getting the speed up from 6 Mbps to 50Mbps, but still very slow. Since I had run an ethernet cable to the room at that end of the house to improve speeds to the desktop computer and PS5, I decided to try an access point there. This TP-Link access point worked very well, set up in stand alone mode and plugged into an ethernet cable connected to a switch in that room. Now I'm seeing 400 - 700 Mbps on Wi-Fi at that end of the house with my iPhone and iPad! What a difference. And it cost less than the Xfinity Pod, which was quickly returned. If you have a good ethernet connection and want to expand you Wi-Fi speeds nearby, I highly recommend this access point.

BETTER THAN EXPECTED

My house has cat6 everywhere and because I work from home full time I needed to have wifi all over the house. The problem was, having dual home interent providers, you can't really do a mesh since main hub from one won't work on wifi mesh devices from another. I got these to plug directly into the cat6 which goes to a switch that connects to a load balancing router and VOILA, they just work seamlessly on same wifi all over the house regardless which ISP is chosen. Highly recommend these for great house wifi coverage.

Flawless when it comes to extending my home WiFi network

I use this access point to extend my Wi-Fi network at home. On the second floor I had very weak signal or it was non-existent at all. I just plugged it in, opened interface via browser, configured 2 networks (I have separate networks for 2.4GHz and 5GHz) and used the same password as my current network, and all my devices are automatically switching between router network and AP network when I go between home floors. Using it for over a month and had zero issues, everything work flawlessly.

works fairly well; somewhat easy to install; almost lives up to the hype

Like most, I have a few rooms in the house that dont receive a strong signal from my (xfinity) router.I finally found a fast, easy solution to solve the problem - moca connectors. Moca connectors use your cable outlets to distribute your internet signal throughout your house, without impacting your cable signal. Read my review on the Powerbeam moca connectors if you want to learn more.Moca connectors send the signal throughout your house, but the signal is delivered at the receiving end via ethernet cable. I wanted a wireless solution (rather than hard wired - no ethernet connection on the cell phone!) so I purchased the TP-Link 1800 to use as a wireless access point (WAP - see I learned something in all my research!).The hook up of the device is simple - power it up by plugging the A/C plug into the wall, and then connect the moca device to the TP-link with the supplied ethernet cable. The installation is completed using your cell phone and the TP-link app called Omada. As other reviewers have recommended, follow the instructions closely. In the end, it was not too complex for a non-techie like me.Install the app on your phone, power up the WAP device, go to your phones wifi section and select the 2.4 or 5.0ghz signal (the full address of the signal corresponds to the address on the bottom of the TP-Link device), select that signal, then the app should tell you that no devices are hooked up and ask you for permission to access a local network. After giving the device permission to access your wifi network, you then are asked to name your WAP connection, fill in your network SSID name and password, and you are online. So I am now receiving 500+Mbps wi-fi signals in rooms which previously were dead zones. So why not five stars? Contrary to what I "thought" I understood, this device does NOT use the same SSID as your router / home network (NOTE: there is an exception noted below). I had read on the manufacturers website that you could use a single SSID name, and your device would transfer amongst access points as devices moved amongst the network - e.g. This solution for example does not automatically transfer from the WAP to the router and back as you move within the house. You have to manually select the signal / SSID you wish to connect to, in order to get the optimal signalI talked with the TP-Link help desk. Technically their marketing material is not wrong and you can have a seamless, roaming solution. However in order to achieve this, I was told that all the equipment - i.e. router and WAP, along with any relay points (I dont have any relays) need to be TP-link equipment, and running on the Omada software in order to manage the seamless transfers as you roam. in other words, my Comcast router and the TP-link cannot hand off to one another. So in this instance, if you dont have a TP-Link router / modem, you need to name your WAP separately from your router (i.e. different SSID's) so you can select the most optimal connection point as you move within the house. In conclusion, this is product is constructed quite well and works efficiently. Dont waste your time on range extenders or those Powerline / xfinity pod solutions (rubbish). Other than having to manually update access points as you roam, the device provides a strong wireless signal in rooms that were previously dead zones.

Better Than Expected!

We've struggled to get decent internet service in a basement home office (where good internet is important) since we bought our home a few years ago. This, and a long ethernet cable direct from the modem solved the issue. Now the office computer and printers run faster and the downstairs television can actually stream movies.
