It was loose rolling around in the box with no bubble wrap and not secured by tape! I was panicking, thinking my $30 mechanical pencil would have been damaged but thankfully it was OK. I think more care needs to be taken with the packing of art goods…perhaps they thought it was a biro pen in which case it would have been different. Also, the delivery guy threw it down on the garage entrance where I was about to take it of him! They also need to be careful placing packages, not throwing them! I would have given 5 stars others. There is a fine pin stuck to the inside of the eraser. You can remove the eraser and use this to clear any broken lead. When the pencil is completely assembled, depress the top as if you were going to advance the lead. Extremely gently insert a new lead, while keeping the top depressed. I always load my 0.3 pencils from the writing end, since the lead is so fragile. All brands of 0.3 lead pencils are difficult, for most people a 0.5 or 0.7, is better. This is probably the best. **Q: I don't see the eraser.,.. How easy is it to expose it? Can you leave the eraser exposed? I typically always do that...** A: The eraser is located under the silver cap at the top. Being a drafting pencil, the eraser is very small (~4mm) and is designed for fixing small mistakes without erasing anything else. I have a two Graph Gear 1000's, one tip has no movement and the other has maybe a 1/2 mm movement. The movement is imperceptible while writing though, at least for me. **Q: Is this mechanical pencil comfortable when used to write for long periods of time?
