It covers all aspects of weaving fundamentals, including both basic and advanced techniques, and provides an introduction to creating patterns such as basket and bird's eye weaves, rib, twill, herringbone, and more. Instructive and informative chapters include: Welcome to Weaving: Exploring the history of weaving, how to choose a loom that's right for you, different materials and yarn used for loom weaving projects, how the loom frame works, and how to set it up. Handweaving Techniques: Guidance on choosing the right shuttle, how to handweave, tapestry techniques, rug-making techniques, edging techniques, and an introduction to weave structures. The Projects: Step-by-step instructions for designing and creating a unique custom woven wall hanging, a foldover purse, placemats, a cushion cover, and a looped tote bag, all made with natural, environmentally friendly materials. Perfect for anyone wanting to learn how to weave as well as intermediate weavers who want to learn new techniques, this craft book is filled with clear instructions, beautiful illustrative photographs, and easy-to-follow tutorials—everything you need to get started and become a confident weaver in no time.

Review: Great book for a beginner, with a caveat - - I had never even thought about weaving before - that others do it, have done forever all around the world, and that I could do it. Then all of a sudden, I did have the thought, and I couldn't wait to get started learning to weave! I chose this book because it gets good reviews, and I relied entirely on it during my first few weeks on my first loom. I read the book (minus the projects part of it - too advanced!) three times and referred back to parts of it again and again, so I feel like I know this book pretty well. I would say that yes, it is a good guide for learning to weave. It's well-organized, clearly written, and takes one through the process step by step. The photos and drawings are all very useful, too. The one thing I came to understand, though, as I began learning from my own experience and adding YouTube videos to my training (particularly the videos by a woman who goes under the name "Spruce and Linen") is that not all of what this author says is necessary, is truly necessary! For example, you don't need to make a figure-8 when you're warping the loom, and you don't need to use a specific kind of knot when securing the warp yarn (a relief to me as I'm terrible with special knots). There are a few things like this, where what the author presents as part of the process turns out to be optional. Maybe they're best practice, especially for some kinds of projects, but one needn't stress about them. So in short, I would recommend this book to true beginners like me, have them read it and use it for a while, and then supplement with other beginners' guides.
Review: A very lovely reference book. - This is a very informative book on weaving. Fiona Daly covers all the bases. The instructions are precise with lots of wonderful photography of the process. The patterns are beautiful. Intricate. The book is great for anyone who wishes to learn how to weave as well as intermediate weavers who want to learn new techniques. I liked the written thoughts, like anecdotes that seems to portray on a more personal note which reveals a passion for the art of weaving. It's like diving into a historical past history of the roots of where the love of textiles come from. Maybe people would also love to have the author write a future book about how the love for weaving fine products can and does connect people to ancient times all the way to the present day and how we shape a future. Weaving is necessary and defines how life should count. I would definitely recommend this book. I will keep it in my Kindle as a reference ebook to refer back to as I learn to weave better. I'm a beginner at weaving. Keep up the great work.
