Review: Mouse for laptop - Very good mouse for my laptop, lightweight, easy to set up, good grip, functional, really fast really worth money
Review: Thinking about a Logitech mouse? This one is better and one sixth of the cost! - This is simply the best mouse I have used - priced at under £10 it's the best value item I've purchased in the last few years. Good points - instantly responsive - wheel to scroll up and down - wheel click (down or left) allows scrolling navigation in all directions: left, right, up, down and diagonally up and down - off button to save the battery - comfortable rounded fit to the hand - price Bad points - User manual doesn't mention the wheel click scrolling navigation at all (I found it by accident) I've used 20 or 30 different mice over the last 20 years. I moved to wireless mice (to avoid the frustration of the cable snagging) and then to laser mice (to avoid the frustration of a dusty, sticking ball). I've tried a variety of mice at various employers (as a contract programmer) and I ended up repeatedly buying Logitech for personal use because Logitech mice were consistently good ... that is, until this last year. In 2009, I bought a Logitech MX 1100 Cordless Laser Mouse (with a big USB receiver the size of a Sandisk Cruzer USB Memory Stick) and it was fine, scroll wheel and responsive. No problems. Until August last year when I lost the USB receiver. So I looked at the options and in September I bought a Logitech Cube Mouse (£60) from desertcart. It came with a Nano receiver and it's a great idea - but it isn't responsive enough - move the mouse and there is often (but not always) a delay before the cursor moves on the screen. It's just like going back to 1990 and trying to use a co-worker's mouse with a sticking, dirty, dusty ball underneath ... very frustrating. The right click is also very difficult to use. After a few days with a lot of frustration, I bought another mouse from desertcart, this time a Logitech MX Performance Mouse which seemed to be the latest version of my MX 1100. Unfortunately this had the same sticking-ball behaviour, not responsive enough and with a delay between moving the mouse and the cursor changing position on the screen. I was intending to return the Cube Mouse (because I assumed the MX Performance Mouse would work properly). But since both mice weren't responsive I didn't know whether it was my computer or the nano receiver that was the problem. So for the next 5 months I put up with an unresponsive 'sticking' mouse. Very, very, frustrating - particularly with graphics and CAD programs. Then in March I was browsing desertcart.co.uk looking at Chromebooks and I saw a "Frequently Bought Together" item referring to an "desertcartBasics Wireless Mouse with Nano Receiver Black" for £8.95. I thought it was worth a try, and as I wrote at the top it's the best mouse I've used, much better than any of the Logitech mice I've bought over the years (all in the price range £40-£60). So I am now going to return the two Logitech mice that I bought in September. There's nothing wrong with my computer and the desertcartBasics Nano Receiver works perfectly. I don't know where Logitech have gone wrong, but the wheel-click scroll-in-any-direction functionality of this desertcartBasics mouse is much better than the Logitech attempts to solve the problem of scrolling right and left. Now I just need to save up for the Chromebook :-)

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what kind of batteries does it use**
A: The one I just purchase comes with 2 AAA batteries not 3. Was working great when I first received it, now it doesn't work at all. Such a disappointment!

**Q: Will it work with Mac book??**
A: Info for the mouse is not confusing or conflicting. It is not Bluetooth, but requires the USB receiver. It works with any device with Windows or Mac OS 10; and which have a USB port. So the specs on the MacBook Air need to be checked carefully before buying - some have USB port, some don't. It's that simple. The model No. on the receiver is MGR0975, which is paired with the mouse Model No. B0005EJh6Z4. They are a pair, and yes they work with Apple with OS 10, but you need a USB port for the receiver. I don't use apple, but googling finds: Macbook air 11.6” display, 4th gen intel, Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, 1 USB Type C & 2 USB 3.0 (backward compatible w 2.0) Model MD712LL/A on Best Buy In fact, I wonder about that OS 10.9 Maverickssince the specs for the mouse say OS 10 only. Ask Amazon.

**Q: Is this a silent mouse? I mean, noiseless, without the traditional clicking sound, ideal to use in a classroom or a library?**
A: Because there are so many conflicting answers to this, I feel compelled to clarify some of the less intelligent replies. You DO hear very soft clicking sounds with this mouse, but NOTHING like what you hear on an older mouse. My older mouse made very loud and noticeable clicking sounds that could be easily heard from across a room. This mouse is barely noticeable at all because the click is "soft." The best way I can describe it is to say that it's like there is padding inside to absorb the sound. When I click this mouse, the person sitting 3 feet from me can only hear it if we are deliberately still, and concentrate on hearing it. With my old mouse, every click was like someone snapping their fingers. This mouse is barely a whisper.

I don't know why others say it's too loud for a library or office setting. Perhaps older versions of this mouse were loud, but I purchased mine in 2023 and it is (pardon the pun) as quiet as a mouse! I am very happy with my purchase.

**Q: How far from the receiver is still working fine?**
A: I have stayed as far as 24 feet and the mouse still works.
