This is a major feature of this case. It's really nice to maintain the case protection around the iPad when you simply don't need the keyboard. The apple magic keyboard is missing this one and the iPad will be exposed to scratching if you want to move without the keyboard. **Q: Can you use this keyboard with another case or without the case at all does it connect to the ipad or to the case?** A: The iPad gets inserted into the case like a phone case, and to use the keyboard with it you need to connect it to the keyboard. On the side of the iPad there are three little dots that connect with the keyboard. You can use the iPad without the keyboard by leaving it unconnected but to use the keyboard it needs to be connected. It doesn’t need any Bluetooth connection like other keyboards it connects through the sensors. **Q: Trying to decide whether to buy- I see complaints Re: touch pad not working well and that’s a dealbreaker for me- how many of you have had problem?** A: It’s a nice case overall, but if your going to be daily using and taking outside your home wouldn’t recommend.
