## Description

BOSS Audio Systems Elite BN965BLC Car GPS Navigation DVD Player - Double Din, Bluetooth Audio and Calling, 6.5 Inch LCD Touchscreen Monitor, MP3/CD/DVD/USB/SD, Aux-in, AM/FM Radio Receiver

Review: Much better than I expected considering all the negative reviews - This if a review of the BV9384NV I researched many head units and had narrowed my search to either the Sony XAV-AX200 or JVX KV-V840BT. I wanted to use Android Auto for navigation, have a DVD/CD slot, and decode FLAC files from USB thumb drive, and have a unit that was true Double DIN to fit the aperture in my 1996 Ford Explorer. In the end, after reading of implementation difficulties with Android Auto, I decided I did not want to spend $300+ to be a Beta Tester. The Boss units with FLAC capability and built-in GPS/Navigation plus SD and USB reader and Aux port offered a feature set only matched in $500+ units form the majors (JVC, Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood). desertcart had a customer returned unit on sale for $96 so I took an inexpensive gamble. I installed it a month ago and have used it for about 15 hours. My Observations: GPS Nav works great - I placed the antenna on a metal mending plate on the underside of my dash - invisible. Signal strength is excellent (9-10 Sats minimum). Female nav voice is clear. Maps (from NDrive) are stored on a removable 8GB SD (included) which can be placed in your PC for SW updates or expanded map purchases (Beyond US) or different voices. Audio - the unit is musical and will play quite loudly and crisply. There is audible hiss at the lowest volumes settings (up to 2 or 3). The hiss is present only when a source is selected, otherwise it is silent. I thought this would bother me - as I consider myself an audiophile (20K home system) - but I do not notice it at all when driving. Volume control knob is awesome - good feel with detents and can adjust the volume slowly. Past 75% the unit plays louder than I can bear. BT Connectivity - Instantaneous with my LG V20 and stable. No issues. It pairs as soon as I start the car - no user intervention. BT Voice calls - the built-in microphone works well and I was happy I did not have to run an extra external mic and cable. Friends report good clarity overall and their voice through the car speakers is superb. Some friends have said sometimes it sounds like I'm in a tunnel. DVD Player - I watched part of one movie. It was fine. Screen was sharp and colors were good. The safety interlock is trivial to bypass. Its a simple ground connection unlike some units (e.g. Pioneer which require a sequence of ground connections to enable the DVD player. CD Player - worked perfectly. Safety Notifications - Nothing - No annoying safety screen or keys to depress each time you start the car. It just loads the song you were listening to at the conclusion of your last trip and starts playing, or the radio station, etc. AUX Input - its on the front panel. Have not tried it. Camera Input - in back of unit - have not tried it. Streaming - have not tried it since all my music is in FLAC files on USB and SD. FLAC on USB and SD - works perfectly - crisp beautiful sound. Only issue is I have 2000 FLAC files (songs) on my Sandisk USB and Samsung SD card and the Boss just gives me a long list rather than grouped by directory tree. I'm sure there is a way around this but it does not bother me much to scroll through the list. Touch screen - normally responsive but sometimes I have to go back and try again because it misreads a key press in the sub menu settings. A touch pen is included and it prefers this. One nice attribute is each default source volume can be changed individually - so that the Radio Tuner, CD, Flac USB/SD, DVD, Navigation etc, all have the same volume setting. So switching sources keeps same volume. Radio tuner works fine - good sensitivity. I live in the PNW in a remote area and can access many radio stations that my original OEM Ford Tuner could not detect. Installation was quick (2 hrs). I had to dremel 0.2 and 0.1 inches of material from the upper and lower interior edge of the bezel to accept the unit but it did not take long and the external visible fit is perfect. I used the plastic FMK552 installation kit to hold the unit against the inside bezel (replacing the OEM clips). I used the Metra 70-5600 kit to match the Ford harness. On the Ford with premium sound the blue wire on the long connector powers the car amp and must be tied to the PControl wire from the Boss. I do not know yet if the unit will be reliable but thus far no issues and very pleased with the purchase and the cost savings.
Review: Nice unit loaded with features - Excellent unit for the price. I was skeptical at first, but the features and sound quality are great. I replaced a two year old pioneer with this unit, mostly because I wanted the in dash nav. The back up camera is a big plus. My older system had an external equalizer that was kind of a pain to use, mostly because of the second volume control. This unit handles my two amplifiers with ease and the equalizer is very easy to adjust and navigate to. The touch screen is very responsive and easy to use. I’ve read the complaints about the display being too small for radio extra information, but honestly I don’t think it’s that small at all. Also military time vs 12 hour is very simple to change. The nav works very well, Bluetooth connected to my IPhone, everything was very easy to set up. About the only thing I’d mention, not really a complaint but measure the opening where the unit will be installed, and also measure the DIN adapter that you plan on using. I bought an adapter that it did not fit, but with a dremel tool I was able to cut away so it worked. Even though I’m using two separate amplifiers for bass and four channels, I initially used it for a week using only the units speaker outputs and was amazed at the sound. I have four JBL GTO’s and the sound was incredible using just the units amp. Very good unit, don’t let the low price scare you off. It’s top quality

## Questions & Answers

**Q: And can you use navigation while listening to music**
A: Yes, music can be played while the BV9386NV is in the navigation setting.

**Q: What's the difference in the bv9386av and the bvnv9384rc**
A: The main difference between the two units is that the BV9386NV does not feature a rear-view camera and the BVNV9384RC does.

**Q: Will fit 2013 dodge Grand caravan**
A: Amazon will most likely give you the best price, you need to go here (www.crutchfield.com), plug your vehicle make model year and any other details they require and they will tell you exactly what is required. If it fits, what mounting hardware, wiring and modifications are needed. In addition they offer specific instructions for that vehicle for a small additional charge with pictures and video. You must check them out, even if you buy the radio at Amazon.

**Q: Does this support Apple carplay, Andriod auto, and does it have rds features?**
A: The radio does not support Android Auto or Apple Carplay.

### ⭐ Pathetic excuse of a Nav system. Don't waste your time, money and patience.
*by L***D on November 1, 2017*

This is one pathetic excuse of a Nav system. I can't even select anything on the screen without it jumping all over the place. (It does the same whether I use the included stylus, or my own finger). I can't even enter the Nav menu via the on-screen touch buttons, and when I do (after repeat attempts and tongue biting to not swear), I cannot even type an address - typing one letter selects a RANDOM other letter - anything OTHER than what I actually selected. And, when it somehow gives you street (or city) name suggestions - forget about trying to select them! It'll type another random letter instead! Screen calibration (a menu option in the Settings, if I am lucky enough to get it to select) does absolutely nothing - just a cross-hairs jumping all over the screen as I touch it. I have no idea how others gave it 4 and 5 stars - mine is not worth even a (1) single star. My $50 5-year old windshield-mount Garmin works better than this POS. Details: I literally just unboxed it and installed it last night (10/31/2017). At the first boot: Touch screen not working properly - unable to select anything - the screen keeps jumping up & down, regardless of whether I use stylus or my own finger. Screen calibration (after trying for 30 mins to get in there) does nothing. Yes, I did remove the protective plastic peel. For the next part: - GPS antenna connected - Nav system sees full strength GPS signal in about 1 sec from boot time (which is fast) - Nav system CURRENT location shows correctly, with correct street names - Nav system is set to "Fastest Route" (NOT scenic, etc) Nav not working (#1). Launching Nav from the hardware button on the left of the screen (because the screen touch menu jumps all over the place and does NOT select). Unable to enter even a single address. Attempting to type ANY particular letter in the address input - the screen selects a RANDOM letter, which is anything OTHER than what I'm trying to select. When street name suggestion list comes up - attempting to select an entry results actually in a letter being typed (and my finger/stylus are nowhere near that letter!) Nav not working (#2). After a 30-minute adventure in attempting to enter a correct address and somehow, by mere fortune, actually succeeding, a route is calculated... and the moment I start driving, the Nav system takes me... somewhere else!!! Nowhere near what is input! "Yes"/"No" or other soft button selections - not working at all. Software button itself (NOT the screen!) flickers the first few times I select it - and selection does not register. I tried both short and long presses. If I keep selecting it several more times, the entire Nav system actually freezes. Bluetooth takes several tries to discover and connect to my Samsung Galaxy 8+ phone. I have no problems in my other cars & factory systems. This basically tells me that the BT (bluetooth) stack on this Nav unit is old and outdated. What I've attempted: - reboots (no changes in behavior) - screen calibration (no changes in behavior) - factory reset (after umpteenth try of trying to make selection) - no changes in behavior. Wiring set-up: - using Metra GM adapter wire harness (vehicle is a 2000 Chevrolet Impala) - ground, wiring done correctly - Reverse camera connected, comes up automatically when in Reverse & works good. It looks nice, and that's about it. I contacted Boss Audio and filed a Warranty support ticket with them, I'm curious to see how soon they respond - but from what I'm reading elsewhere, they're nowhere in a hurry.I'll give them 5 days to respond (until Mon, Nov 6 - I'm feeling generous ATM). Will update. NOTES for the general public: - Boss Audio will ONLY pay return shipping for warranty products in the first 30 days after the purchase. After the 30 days, return shipping for warranty is on you, the buyer. (Read the fine print!) - Warranty: 1 year if you (the end-user) install it yourself - Warranty: 3 years if a specialized audio shop installs it (NOT you!)
